RE: MS Forefront Endpoint Protection

2011-10-03 Thread Brian Desmond
We've rolled this out to probably 30-50K seats in the past 18 months or so
across quite a few customers. It's gone well in each case and has generally
saved a lot in terms of costs with customers who already have it as part of
their licensing deal with MS.

Thanks,

Re: MS Forefront Endpoint Protection

2011-10-03 Thread Joseph Heaton
I'm using it here, but in a pretty limited scope for the time being. We're
migrating from Novell to Windows AD, and we have SCCM setup in the new domain,
along with about 30 or so servers, all with FEP installed. Client installation
is extremely quick and painless, once the SCCM client gets installed. I've had
a couple of issues with that phase, but nothing once that's done.

We switched to Forefront from Eset about 3 years ago and have had no
complaints. It is easy to install and monitor and it stays relatively hidden to
our users which we prefer.

Do you have SCCM in place already? That's probably the biggest barrier IMO as
it's not a next, next, done job and is, arguably, overkill if you just want

vSphere 4.0 Update 1 and MS Forefront

We recently updated our VMware servers to update 1 and immediately had
issues on at least 2 of them with MS Forefront. The VMs slowed to a crawl

Yes, got them done, too. The machines took about 20 minutes to reboot and
would stop serving until FF was removed.

Contacted MS and was informed they don't support Server 2008 R2 in virtual

The Exchange piece of Forefront used to be Antigen prior to Microsoft
acquiring it, so it a pretty well known product.

It is definitely feasible to use Forefront for all of your anti-malware
needs, but they don't all run from the same Forefront console if that
is what you are looking for.

The Exchange Server component, or the client component?

We started migrating to Forefront Client Security here over the summer,
replacing Symantec Anti Virus Corporate Edition. The price was right (MS
pricing is very competitive in the education sector), and I liked the
fact that FCS could be updated using the update infrastructure we
already have in place (WSUS). We haven't run into any problems so far,
and have put it on 240 of our ~2,000 workstations.
