RE: Color Laser Printer recommendations??
I glanced through the article, it seems as though a large part of their criteria was price, since the second one on the list was near the most expensive to use, had a poor overall satisfaction with reliability of brand, and overall quality of vendor phone support was worse than average. I could not find if they even tested HP printers to see where they might fall on the list. I am not advocating the HP's, would just like to see if they were even tested. -Original Message- From: Tom Kluegel [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, March 19, 2008 4:42 PM To: NT System Admin Issues Subject: Re: Color Laser Printer recommendations?? RE: Color Laser Printer recommendations??
The only server OS that HP supports printing thru queues is Netware. They do not support printing thru Windows Server OS print queues. On a Windows network HP only supports direct IP printing. I found this out a few years ago when trying to resolve some issues at a large CPA firm we had just migrated from Netware to AD. I was shocked to find out that HP didn't support printing to an HP networked printer thru a Windows print queue. The only way we got it working was to have a dedicated print server and install all print drivers fresh with no kernel mode drivers. Lots of people have no problems printing to HP network printers thru Server based print queues it is just that you will get no support from HP when you do run into problems. Did you print on inkjet glossy paper, or laser glossy paper? We had someone use inkjet glossy paper once in a color laser printer, and the heat of the laser printer melted the coating off the paper and really messed up the printer. Laser glossy paper is made to withstand the head. I am very happy with my Dell Color Laser 3110cn. One small surprise, though, was that it failed miserably at printing on glossy photo paper. A glossy page with beads of color liquid came out. We bought a couple of Dell network color lasers... On the first one, the (not easily replaced) NIC went out. (Still works nicely shared by the desktop machine closest to it.) The second one just quit working, and that department was sick and tired of clearing paper jams (not Dell's fault) and the fact that the (second) expensive drum cartridge did not last very long. No page count on that one, but it died within weeks of its installation. The original drum cart lasted over a year. -- Richard McClary, Systems Administrator ASPCA Knowledge Management 1717 S Philo Rd, Ste 36, Urbana, IL 61802 217-337-9761 http://www.aspca.org Sam Cayze [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote on 01/15/2008 02:07:49 PM: I agree with Joe... This makes management for mid-size departments difficult. What do you suggest for a mid-size network-able color laser printer? Needs to accommodate 5-20 users (200-500 pages?) on a daily basis. Priced between the $300 - $2,000 price range. Would like to stay with HP, just because they have a decent reputation in the company, but appreciate all suggestions!!
