I think it starts becoming hands off for larger customers. We order through an 
internal website that gathers all the requisite information, approvals, billing 
etc then makes the order automagically. 

They have some sort of connection to our internal telephony apps so we can see 
usage individually, by cost center, officer etc.

I *can* use MyVerizon from a PC to manage contacts, voice mail and such but I 
doubt anyone manages the contract with it as there's no information of that 
type.

  That was a joke.  SYX is a multi-branded mail-order house.  Their
brands include:

Systemax (the origin of the SYX name)
Tiger Direct
Global Computer
CompUSA (they bought the brand from the defunct retailer)
Circuit City (they bought the brand from the defunct retailer)
Nexel
Infotel
MISCO
Worldwide Rebates
OnRebate

  Their specialty is nearly-identical websites which vary only in the
logo and color scheme.

  A significant portion of their selection is sourced directly from
big wholesale distributors, like Tech Data and Ingram Micro.  This is
not unusual.  Many other resellers (e.g., CDW, NewEgg) do similar.
What SYX does poorly at is keeping track of shipments -- we had a lot
of trouble where SYX's tracking info would be the lot shipment to an
intermediate warehouse, and then they'd lose track of it until it got
to us (or not).  They also liked to list products as in stock until
their wholesaler told them it was discontinued -- after SYX accepted
our order.  These issues are why we're not buying from them anymore.
You can identify most of these SYX items as having a SKU begins with a
Y followed by a number and a dash, e.g., Y123-ABC567.

  I'm not sure if orgs with that many devices get a different system,
or they just give up and eat the costs of a poorly managed mobile
device fleet.  From my experience, that's how it works with landlines
-- for some things, it costs more to have the phone company fix things
than it does to just live with the problems.  (Kind of like Microsoft,
come to think of it.)

I feel your pain although I'm sure yours is much greater that mine. I just try 
to keep track of my MiFi and HomeFusion data with it. Now they offer a 
monitoring service for $4.99 additional...I don't think so.

My favorite Verizon moment was when I installed their app on my work phone 
hoping to manage some other accounts and all it would tell me was that my bill 
for $451K was due...brilliant!

  Try administering 30+ mobile devices using it.  When it's not dog slow, it 
times out completely, or yields cryptic errors.  No joke, the following error 
was already in my clipboard for complaining to our
rep:

"The action you are taking did not complete successfully due to an 
unexpected error."

  I'm getting that on random MDNs right now.

  Yah, Dell invoices are incredibly cryptic.  Just as bad, there's often no 
correlation between the order and packing list line items.
You order 1 PC, you get a packing list with 30 line items detailing every last 
nut and bolt that went into the PC.  Then the next day you get a separate 
shipment with the mouse.

  One thing Amazon can't seem to do is put our Purchase Order number on their 
packing slips.

They seem to be doing a lot of instant rebates now which are better than mail-in but a little gimmicky.
