Re: Ultrabook

2012-08-31 Thread Hank .
A nice little notebook is the Acer Aspire 4830 series. Definitely consumer
grade but you can use 16 Gb of RAM and get i5 processors.

Those specs are hard to come by, particularly the RAM.

Most Ultrabooks have the ram fixed (if you are lucky there is one slot
that you can upgrade). The top of the range Toshiba Portege Z930 is 4GB +
 4GB.

I’ve successfully swapped out the removable stick for an 8GB on my Z830
which took it up to 10GB and it runs just fine. The Chipset supports it.
So if you can find something to cover the other specs and the chipset is an
ivy bridge then you should be able to go past 8GB of ram to at least 12GB.

6.8lbs does not an Ultrabook make! I have a 17 monster like that but it kills

My new MBPro w/Retina has 16GB RAM and a 768GB SSD and weighs a lot less than
my old 17 MBPro or my 17 backbreaker laptop.

Sony Z2?

Doesn't meet your 16GB of RAM requirement, but weighs 1.1kgs (lighter than some
ultrabooks), has a full i7 CPU, and 1080p screen (13), 512GB SSD, USB3, plus
the extras (blu-ray, backlit keyboard, finger print reader, GB ethernet etc.)

Cheers
