You should take a look at NetSupport Manager.
http://www.netsupportmanager.com/
I've used this in the past and was impressed with it's performance and
capabilities.
I believe it will do what you want and a whole lot more.
I'm not sure what pricing is like though...

We use the Remote Tool with Desktop Authority. Doesn't do everything
you are looking at but it does quite a bit.

Hey list,

I have been charged with looking for a good remote desktop support
solution for our District. While I'm about to start my googlefu for
solutions, I figure it wouldn't hurt for a little wisdom from the crowd
about various solutions.

Currently, we use DameWare Mini Remote Control. DameWare is an excellent
tool, but doesn't do everything we want it to do.

Here's what we _need_:

 * Remote Control (Without asking permission)
 * Remote Viewing (Hopefully without the user knowing we're viewing)
 * View Thumbnails of a group of computers (what's missing in DameWare)

Here's what we _want_:

 * Remote install of software/running of scripts.
 * Who's logged in?
 * A sortable/searchable list of computers.
 * Remote system inventory (CPU, memory, HD, software optional)
 * Support for Windows, Mac (and maybe Linux.)
 * ...And features we're not even thinking of, but we probably want.

(Basically, we want the functionality of Apple Remote Desktop on our
Windows desktops. As I don't see Apple making an ARD client for Windows
anytime soon, we need to see what else is out there.)

Price is a factor in our decision making, but we're willing to look at
any solution which provides what we need. Any recommendations you guys
can give, or solutions we should probably avoid, are appreciated.

I'm using it at one client. Get a fast PC to run it on -- it's kind of heavy.
And I don't think it supports Macs directly, although it does support SNMP so
if you can use SNMP to get what you need from the Macs, it might work. Check
out the Spiceworks Community at http://community.spiceworks.com/ if you need
more info.

OCS Inventory NG http://www.ocsinventory-ng.org/ has a Mac client and it's also

The freeware SpiceWorks will help you with at least some of that.

Microsoft's System Center Essentials can as well. It would be pretty
cheap on your educational discount. Be warned, it can be a bit of a
memory hog.

Yeah, it's never a good sign when pricing information seems to be the last
thing they wan to tell you on the website...

Have you used Viewfinity? Is it a resource hog? Seeing that it actually records
all of the user's actions (so that you can review what they did, and reverse
any problems) seems like it might use a lot of cpu time/hard drive space.

Hey list,

I have been charged with looking for a good remote desktop support solution
for our District. While I'm about to start my googlefu for solutions, I
figure it wouldn't hurt for a little wisdom from the crowd about various
solutions.

 * Who's logged in?
 * A sortable/searchable list of computers.
 * Remote system inventory (CPU, memory, HD, software optional)
 * Support for Windows, Mac (and maybe Linux.)
 * ...And features we're not even thinking of, but we probably want.

(Basically, we want the functionality of Apple Remote Desktop on our Windows
desktops. As I don't see Apple making an ARD client for Windows anytime
soon, we need to see what else is out there.)

Price is a factor in our decision making, but we're willing to look at any
solution which provides what we need. Any recommendations you guys can give,
or solutions we should probably avoid, are appreciated.
