Re:[nysbirds-l] Avocet & Wilson's Phalarope continue @ Jamaica Bay Queens County....

2013-08-20 Thread Andrew Baksh
A few photos of the AMERICAN AVOCET and the WILSON's PHALAROPE are online here

(
http://birdingdude.blogspot.com/2013/08/shorebirds-at-jamaica-bay-wildlife.html
)

Other than the two current stars mentioned above the shorebird numbers and
variety on the East Pond remain paltry. The weather for the next few days
does not bode well for a massive influx of new arrivals, but hopefully some
birds will drop in and maybe increase the variety a bit.

Last Sunday along with the arrival of the Wilson's Phalarope, there was a
female Northern Pintail along with Northen Shovelers and Blue-winged Teals,
a sure sign that waterfowl are on the move.

[nysbirds-l] C.P. Bobolink + other migrants.

2013-08-20 Thread Nadir Souirgi
I had a basic plumage Bobolink in the west end of the Loch in Central Park's
North End this evening. It made several appearances between 5:30 and 7:30 PM.
This is the brushy area on either side of the stream continuing from the
waterfall just after the first Rustic Bridge. Other migrants noted included 7
species of warbler, Ruby-throated Hummingbird, and Blue-gray Gnatcatcher.

[nysbirds-l] Croton point park 8/19-20

2013-08-20 Thread Larry Trachtenberg
Yesterday midday Karalyn Lamb found an UPLAND SP on the CPP main landfill
relocated by her and Charlie Roberto around 7 pm. Unfortunately an intensive
search this a.m w/ Charlie and Anne Swaim from 6:30-7:30 a.m. -- they were
still at it when work interfered with my day -- did not turn up the "uppie".
There are still good numbers of bobolink and grasshopper sparrow both perching
nicely and a few Savannah's. We also flushed a first fall harrier and had a
peregrine flying over landfill so far from a lost morning, although Upland
sandpiper would have been a westchester county first for me.
