If the pushrods are the same lengths, they will interchange. Heads will probably interchange if all the holes line up; rockers likewise. I remove the engine separately from the trans; then the trans if necessary. .bill in oregon _ From: old-chevy-truck@yahoogroups.com [mailto:old-chevy-truck@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of James Tye Sent: Sunday, May 13, 2012 9:37 AM To: old-chevy-truck@yahoogroups.com Subject: RE: [old-chevy-truck] oil pan Well, the bad news is that when I filled the oil and connected a drill to the oil pump, it began throwing oil from somewhere in the vicinity of the flywheel. I will go with the better of two '54 engines sitting in the garage sans heads. One is pretty oily and the other I can still see the blue. RE: [old-chevy-truck] oil pan
The Toyota F series engine was a licensed version of the 235 (1960 to 1975) from GM. They did not use junkyard cores. The main difference (there are several) between the F engine and the US version was all the tapped holes were metric. The Toyota 2F engine (1975 to 1980-something) had more Toyota design elements and was bigger, abandoning the 235 moniker. Allen '50 3100 '73 FJ40 (Landcruiser) wishing I hadn't sold it. You might try Jeff at Bowtie Bits (888-838-6887). Remember, this is not just ANY 235 oil pan. The 1954 model 235 had a different oil pan than all the next ones. Good luck! Re: [old-chevy-truck] oil pan
Don't forget, the old engines need those "Troughs" in them for rod dippers to scoop up oil. Must be there and lined up correctly to lube rods. SO, 54 and up pans may fit, but WILL NOT have the troughs for oil.
