Re: [onap-tsc] January DTF blurb

2021-10-28 Thread Ranny Haiby (Samsung) via lists.onap.org
Hi,

I would like to propose the following text that IMHO focuses on attracting
attendees and presenters:

“The ONAP community will host sessions that will highlight recent achievements
and milestones, and plan for the next ones. Attendees can expect to learn about
new features and capabilities in the Istanbul release, including CNF,
enterprise use-cases and many more. Updates will be provided regarding on-going
efforts in architecture, modeling, security, and requirements. A big chunk of
time will be dedicated to demos showing ONAP addressing real-world use cases.
The planning sessions will present a unique opportunity for community members
and non-members to provide input that will shape the next releases of ONAP.”

Ranny.

The ONAP community will be hosting meetings for alignment of architecture,
modeling, security, requirements and task force deliverables such an CNF and
enterprise capabilities, and other aspects of system design as we look toward
future releases of the platform. This will also be an opportunity to see
demonstrations the latest functionality developed in the Istanbul release and

Re: [onap-tsc] ONAP TSC SELF-NOMINATIONS OPEN - Ends Sept 21, 2021

2021-09-20 Thread Ranny Haiby (Samsung) via lists.onap.org
Dear ONAP Community,

I would like to nominate myself as a TSC member of the ONAP Community
representing Samsung.
I have been a member of the ONAP TSC starting as early as 2017. I contributed
to the project and even more than that, I helped many of my colleagues over the
years join the community and make valuable contributions that made ONAP a
strong open source software project.
In addition to ONAP, I serve as the vice-chair of the LFN TAC, where I
constantly seek synergies between ONAP and other LFN projects. I have led
several initiatives such as white-papers and the recently formed security forum.

I believe the key to ONAP’s success will be its usability and simplicity and
intend to work closely with the operator and vendor community to continue
driving these principals. Moving forward I will strive for more multi-party
initiatives, both inside the ONAP Community and with external communities and
SDOs.

Regards,

Ranny Haiby.

[onap-tsc] LFN Technical Whitepaper 2021 - Call For Participation

2021-02-19 Thread Ranny Haiby (Samsung) via lists.onap.org

Hello ONAP community memebrs,

Following the success of last year’s LFN technical
whitepaper,
we have kicked-off the process of creating the next one.
This year’s whitepaper should continue to share our vision with a broader
industry audience, drive adoption of our software and bring on more players to
the game.

The theme for the paper is still open for decision and we are looking for
contributors.

Based on previous experience contributors can invest as little or as much as
they see fit. As a contributor you will benefit from collaborating with other
experts in the community and spreading your ideas. You will of course get
credit as an author. You don’t have to be a member of any project or committee
to contribute. Participation is open for all.

If you would like to participate or propose a theme, please add your name on
this page:
https://wiki.lfnetworking.org/display/LN/Theme+proposals+and+Subject+Matter+Experts

Thanks,

Hi Kenny,

This is indeed appalling. I hope the individuals who bombed the session will
find peace in their hearts and healing in their soul.

Maybe having the Zoom links with the embedded passwords on public wiki pages
and public mailing lists not such a good idea?
Shouldn’t the password be distributed in a separate manner than the zoom link?
I suspect these attackers just search the web for Zoom links to find targets.

I am very distraught at the moment.
We have struggled with security on Zoom. We recently removed the requirement
that you must sign in from a registered account dur to folks in some
geographies no longer being able to access the meetings from free accounts.

The horrible, horrible intrusion into our TSC call today was the direct result
of lifting those restrictions.

Looking for recommendations from the community on what we should do to try and
prevent today’s situation from re-occurring.

Thanks!

Resent-From:

Hi TSC,

Kindly request to review & approve following committer promotions.

New committers/extensions

  *   Lukasz Rajewski:
https://wiki.onap.org/display/DW/Committer+Promotion+Request+for+Integration+Lukasz+Rajewski
  *   Michal Jagiello:
https://wiki.onap.org/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=84670430
  *   Thierry Hardy:
https://wiki.onap.org/display/DW/Committer+Promotion+Request+for+Integration+Thierry+Hardy
They all got a large majority of Yes among the existing Integration committers
(see vote results in the wiki page)

Please note that Integration became a project with lots of repositories, the
active work of the 3 candidates deals with a subset of these repositories but
it is simpler to have a approval for the whole integration.

Eric Multanen also notified by mail that he was ok to be removed from the
integration committer list due to other activities. Thanks Eric for all the
work, as you are still active in multicloud I am sure we will still keep on
working together.

Regards,

/Morgan

[onap-tsc] October 2020 technical event - It's time to propose sessions

2020-09-03 Thread Ranny Haiby (Samsung) via lists.onap.org
Dear ONAP community members,

The Linux Foundation Networking October 2020 Virtual Technical Event is
approaching.
Please find all the details here:
https://wiki.lfnetworking.org/display/LN/2020+October+Virtual+Technical+Event
Free registration is already open. Please register at your earliest convenience
so the LF staff can know how many attendees to expect.

For the ONAP sessions, the TSC decided to focus the event on three main
“themes”, reflected in the three proposed tracks:

  * Honolulu release working sessions track
  * “Global Requirements” track (Requirements not related to a specific use
case, as further defined in the glossary section here:
https://wiki.onap.org/display/DW/Release+Cadence+Proposal)
  *   ONAP demo track
While we realize there may be additional topics that will be worthy of
discussion by the time of the event, there will be a limited number of
timeslots due to the need to address multiple time zones on this three-day
event. If you have a discussion topic that does not fall into those three
categories, please schedule an ad-hoc community call before or after the event
and invite the relevant audience.

If you plan to present a session, please add it to the session proposals page:
https://wiki.lfnetworking.org/display/LN/2020+October+Virtual+Technical+Event+Topic+Proposals
Submission deadline is September 25th – please don’t wait for the last moment.

If you have a topic proposal that may be of interest to the LFN community
at-large, please propose it under the “Cross-Community/General Topics” section.

If you have any questions, or not sure which track your session would fit,
please don’t hesitate to reach out to the ONAP representatives in the event
organizing committee:
Ranny Haiby ranny.ha...@samsung.com
Timo Perala timo.per...@nokia.com

[onap-tsc] [Action required] Your input for scheduling the June Developer Forum ONAP Sessions - submission date extended to June 16th

2020-06-10 Thread Ranny Haiby (Samsung) via lists.onap.org
Hi,

It has been brought to our attention that due to holidays in some parts of
Europe, several community members might not have a chance to respond by Friday.
We have extended the deadline to Tuesday, June 16th.
Thanks to everyone who already submitted. Survey Monkey analytics shows it only
takes 2:28 minutes on average to complete, so if you did not do so already,
please complete at your earliest convenience.

Thanks,

Timo and Ranny.

Hello fellow ONAP community members,

It would be highly appreciated if you could take two minutes and complete the
following survey indicating your intention to attend ONAP sessions during the
event:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/7PJCGC2

There are dozens of proposed sessions and only limited timeslots, therefore we
will have to schedule sessions in parallel tracks.
Getting your feedback is crucial for avoiding scheduling too many popular
sessions in parallel. The event is less than two weeks away so please respond
no later than this Friday, June 12th at 11:59 PM PDT

Thank you for your cooperation.

Re: [onap-tsc] E2E Network Slicing: Integration/Demo with O-RAN component & simulators for RAN Slicing

2020-06-01 Thread Ranny Haiby (Samsung) via lists.onap.org
Hi Swami & Lin,

Thank you for proposing this initiative. The TSC allowed use of proprietary
software in the past as part of PoC (see section 3.b here -
https://wiki.onap.org/display/DW/POC+definition). Since the 5G network slicing
is an official use case and not a PoC, could you please clarify:

  * Could you confirm that the proprietary CU/DU will not be a mandatory part
of ONAP integration, and any interested party could run the Guilin integration
testing without the need for these components?
  * Alternatively, if other community members will be interested in using
these components, could they be made available to additional labs, other than
the ones you mentioned (under a proper non-commercial use license agreement)?
Thanks,

Ranny.

& simulators for RAN Slicing
Resent-From:

Dear TSC,

During our ONAP-ORAN collaboration meeting with regards to the E2E Network
Slicing use case for Guilin release & beyond, we have received keen interest
from one of our O-RAN colleagues to provide a proprietary/closed-source
implementation of Near-Real Time RIC component, and simulators of other O-RAN
components (O-CU/O-DU) for limited use - i.e., for integration testing with
ONAP (e.g., in Winlab or in Intel ONAP Integration lab) and possibly a demo to
ONAP & O-RAN community on completion of Guilin release.

From the overall use case and also ONAP perspective, we strongly believe that
it would certainly add significant value to integrate with O-RAN
components/simulators and show its working, and it will also help in the O-RAN
alignment journey going forward.

While they are checking reg. the feasibility and IPR aspects, we have taken an
action to check with TSC reg. the feasibility and any process/IPR/legal
obligations.

Pl. provide your views, and kindly advise us on the next steps. If needed, we
can provide clarifications in one of the upcoming TSC calls.

Thanks & Regards,

Swami & Lin.

Hi TSC Members,

There have been 2 project proposals submitted by ONAP for the 2020 Mentorship
Program.

In addition I have just been made aware of 2 additional intern projects that
are desired which will be submitted tonight my time.
The good news is that after conferring with the Mentorship Program Manager, we
should still be able to get all 4 ONAP projects funded, ---PROVIDED--- that
the ONAP TSC reviews and approves all of them no later than 5pm pacific, March
17th.

Of critical importance here is that the scope for all of our intern projects is
clear and concise.

  * If projects are too broad or vaguely defined, a perspective intern is
unlikely to understand what the project is about, which will deter students
from applying.
  * If the proposal is overly optimistic about what an intern can effectively
achieve in a short couple of months, it sets unrealistic expectations for them
during the application phase.

The net results of either of those scenarios is a “fail” on the part of the TSC
as it relates to the Mentorship Program that could adversely impact both our
funding and participation in the program the following year. We need to make
sure that y’all are clear about these and in agreement on the expectations.

I am adding a proposal review to this week’s TSC call, but knowing that we
still have a lot of M4 work we may not got to reviewing them.
PLEASE take a look at the two proposals listed above (which have been posted
for a couple of weeks now) and note any concerns as comments on the respective
page, either in-line or at the bottom.

Thanks!
-kenny
