Of course, this will often not be known. But in some cases, we do know, and where we do know we can indicate this. What this allows us to do is then have search filters that return only open easy bugs. These are ideal for new developer volunteers on the project who are looking for items that match their lesser familiarity with the code. It also allows a developer to step up to more challenging bugs over time. A similar approach, which they called easy hacks, was successfully used by LibreOffice. If there are no objections, I'll add a new field to Bugzilla called cf_difficulty_level, and which a drop down UI with the following choices: UNKNOWN (default) TRIVIAL EASY MODERATE HARD WIZARD (I'm certainly open to variations on the names) I'd then rely on other developers to help seed the database with some TRIVIAL and EASY bugs, so new volunteers will have something to work with as they familiarize themselves with the project. And 100% fun. https://www.youtube.com/user/MysteryGuitarMan His latest video is called Stop-Motion Excel. But if you look closely you see that he is actually using OpenOffice for the Mac: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fq9EV2fYF2E And here is the behind the scenes video that explains how he did it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PCTinsZ7dM This is a fun video and good for showing friends and family what you are working on. Let's try to get the world out, via the social networking site, both project's and personal. And if you want to add a comment to the YouTube post pointing out that this is OpenOffice and it can be downloaded for free from www.openoffice.org, then great! This is a good way to introduce the product to more users. Bonus points for adapting an old ASCII Art algorithm to generate a spreadsheet from a photo. Re: T-Shirt for the Apache OpenOffice Project
Hi 2012/7/28 Raphael Bircher r.birc...@gmx.ch: Hi at all At the old OOo project, we have had T-Shirts. There was existing many different versions of OOo shirts. Moastly they was payed, designed and distributed by one of the OOo related associations. Same Country have had also Fan Shirts wich are selled by OOo related NGO's. One T-Shirt was donated by SUN Microsystems. To have a T-Shirt is a nice thing, if you go to represent AOO at a Event. The old shirts are compleetly outdated. (the old dark blue logo and a logo from a company who is no longer existent) I realy like to have a new Shirt. Samething like a Committer Shirt, what you think about? But there are different problems. Since we have not our own monay at Apache, it's hard to solve the payment question. As far as I know, it's not allowd to put a sponsor on the shirt. I think you hit Traidmarke Issues from the ASF with it. And a Shirt will cost money. Maybe we can offer the Sponsor a Blog Post. The other topic is to distribute the Shirt all over the world. I realy like the Idea, but I'm simply on the wrong place to do samething like that. Switzerland is one of the moast expensive country in the world. Yes, I can do it from here, but finaly, it costs a load more then from a other country. I would realy like to have one for the ApacheCon Europe +1 Albino

Re: Tolerance and acceptance
Hi. 2012/6/6 Ross Gardler rgard...@opendirective.com: I move that there is no need to continue to fuel the fires of AOO vs LO. The PPMC is now effective at ignoring anti-AOO materials on our own lists. I suggest the PPMC should further silence inflammatory posts that are anti-LO on our lists. For example, a recent post on ooo-users said: The LO guys should have thought about that before forking OpenOffice following Novell's siren's call. (remember the first major fork of OpenOffice was Novell's Go-OO which incorporated the MS OOXML support). In fact, it was their actions that killed the commercial prospects of StarOffice, which Oracle had renamed Oracle Open Office (without the .org). I suggest that the ooo-users list is not the place for these kinds of opinions, regardless of their validity. This is especially true when they are made in response to a positive comment, which was The main goal has always been to create the best Office suite possible - so let's unite around that. Our communities need to be welcoming. There is no chance of creating unity if disunity is the response. I'm not suggesting this be tackled onlist, that can be counter-productive too. I'm merely highlighting it and encouraging individuals on the PPMC who agree with me to consider sending a polite but firm request to stay focused on helping users on the ooo-users list. +1 Albino Ross
