Hi,

Thank you for solving this mystery.

We don’t filter content on our public computers at our library system so would
this feature be null? We have Envisionware’s PC Reservation software but I
don’t think that filter/unfilter affects our computers at all.

This is there for SIP connections to computer time management software. SIP

Could someone explain what is going on with the 'filtered'/'unfiltered'

What is it's purpose? How does the system filter? What happens?

Thanks,

An include statement is the best way to do this currently. I would also add an
wish list item to LaunchPad to include this information for use in the

Just a note of warning, the includes cannot include any HTML, just your basic

include "current" library address (i.e., address of the library, where the

to add the library addres data to receipt templates. It is only possible to add
library code and name.

In the XUL client, we used the opportunity to set up the receipts header and
footer for the particular library in the Library Setting Editor. The setting is
present in the web client too, but I suppose it is obsolete and don't work
with the angular print templates. (Or I am wrong?)

Ideally we need to add at least the organizational unit physical (or mailing)

templates:

*   Bills, Current (t_bills_current.tt2

<https://git.evergreen-ils.org/?p=Evergreen.git;a=blob;f=Open-ILS/src/templates/staff/share/print_templates/t_patron_data.tt2>
) - (some of our libraries would like to use this print output for the
"official" patron-library contract, so they need not only the library name, but
also the address)

Is there presently an option to insert automatically the current library
address into the print outputs listed above?

Thanks a lot for any help

Finding the font that your scanners are programmed to use is usually the hard

Thanks for the feedback!

As it happens, I think my computer/version of Evergreen

For what it's worth, I ended up using "Free 3 of 9 Extended" (I tried three
other barcode fonts to no avail...) and increasing the font size. My final,
working result is: *{{patron.card.barcode}}*

The problem with the code as you have it written, the word “Barcode:” would
also be in the Codabar font.

Also, most barcodes have to have a start and stop digit. In the example below
you will see the “B” and “D”. This tells the scanner the start and stop of the
barcode.

I have tried this on my computer with a different barcode font, and it works
great. But, remember the barcode font needs to be loaded on each computer that
will use this receipt.

In the desktop client it was possible to print receipts with scannable barcode
fonts. I've tried using basically the same string in the web client with the
CodabarLarge font installed, but no luck. String: "Barcode: {{patron.card.barcode}}"

Am I missing something, or is this not supported in the web client?

on the way we used items and copies to describe the same entity in Evergreen. A
majority of people providing feedback on the bug indicated a preference for
items over copies.

I have created a branch that does so, as well as another branch that does the
opposite. I have also loaded each branch on a test server to give people an
idea of how things would look in an all item world or in an all copy world.

https://mlnc2.noblenet.org/eg/staff/ uses 'items.'

https://mlnc3.noblenet.org/eg/staff/ uses 'copies'

The login for each server is admin / evergreen123.

I think it would be good to get broader community feedback before deciding on a
direction.

While working on the branch, I realized we also need to make a decision about
the use or shelving location vs. copy location.

What I would like to do is send out a community survey that asks: 1) do we need
these terms to be consistent (people may be perfectly happy using items and
copies interchangeably) and b) which terms are preferred.

Do you all think this is the best approach for moving forward? Are there any
other inconsistent terms we should be adding to the survey?

Let me know what you think. My hope is to issue the survey by Thursday.

Thanks!

Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Label Printer Context and spine labels

2017-10-06 Thread Lynn Floyd
One thing we found out is that the "Print Silently When using Mozilla Print"
needs to be unchecked, especially for computers that print Spine labels.
This way the print dialog box comes up, and you can make sure it is printing
to the correct printer.

Also, with the Dymo's we print Spine Labels, and then Pocket labels, and
this allows us to select which roll to print from.

Hello, I've been having some problems setting up a spine label printer on
one computer.

Even though I go into the workstation printer settings editor and set the
correct printer as the default printer for the label context, whenever I
press the print page button on the spine label preview and print page, it
aways defaults to sending the print job to the windows default printer.
When I look at the config files in the client profile directory, it looks
like the different printer contexts are setup correctly. We are running eg
2.10.6 right now.

Has anyone run into this before? I about ready to delete the client profile
and try setting it up again, but I thought I would ask first.

Thanks

Do any of you have experience with either of these printers? They're trying to

Jason,

I have a batch editing use case for this. Several years ago, one of the
primary email providers for a large swath of Georgia counties was bought out,
and after a point, they deactivated all email addresses with the older
company's domain, which was resulting in massive numbers of bounces for staff
to process. We solved the issue with a server-side SQL batch edit of affected
accounts, but patron buckets would have allowed library staff to take care of
this themselves.

Hope that helps!

On 07/10/2015 03:14 PM, Dan Wells wrote:

Hello all,

This came up in Kathy's recent thread asking about the patron editor, and
rather than hijack that thread, I'd like to broaden the conversation a
little, because the same usability issues will affect many areas of the
staff client.

To cut straight to the point, I strongly believe that using fixed position
for large portions of the staff client interface will have a major positive
effect on usability. This has been applied and proven in desktop
applications for decades, and is now being rediscovered within the browser
environment as web "pages" become applications. There is plenty of evidence
out there to support this stance, but here is a quick read which highlights
the point well:
http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2012/09/11/sticky-menus-are-quicker-to-navig
ate/

If we consider the mockups from our design internship a few months back, in
the screenshot Kathy referenced, the entire top area (and, in this case, the
right sidebar) would ideally be fixed position. The only scrolling area
should be the actual form. For any who attended my talk on design at the
conference, this is exactly the concern of rule of thumb #3: "Scroll the
data, not the interface", with "data" broadly including all information and
workspaces which are not "the program". (Here is Kathy's screenshot link
again for reference:
http://media.tumblr.com/69beec7802a938b889bdfa80c7e0d54b/tumblr_inline_nkn0o
kinXl1t572gy.png )

The main complaint driven at fixed screen elements is that they take up too
much space. They do take up space, obviously, but with the amount of use
these elements get on a moment by moment basis, the space is well worth
taking. In cases where more workspace is truly of benefit, we are better
off using fixed position with a "hide" option (auto or manual) than we would
be with using scroll, as we can retain the clear benefits of persistent
availability and predictability. (Expert users might also choose to do
without some toolbars and rely on keyboard shortcuts, but that sort of use
will never be feasible for many staff client users and scenarios.)

As the Smashing Magazine article points out, the easiest way to understand
the situation is to simply imagine other software working with
fully-scrolling interfaces. In this imaginary scenario, when you are using
a word processor, a spreadsheet application, or even a browser itself, all
of your menus, toolbars, tabs, etc., would simply scroll off the screen as
soon as you tried to scroll down to see additional content. It's likely
that some ancient desktop software did exactly that, but if they did, they
are now extinct, and not without good reason.

Another valid concern sometimes raised is the effect a rich, fixed interface
might have on a small screen appliance, like a phone. This topic should be
addressed, but I believe it is best kept separate from the problems at hand,
which are already large enough. My personal stance would be that a full,
first-class staff client interface on a small screen device is not a
realistic concern for a community of our size, needs, and capabilities. Our
bar for using the full client on phones should be "not impossible", and then
we can re-dedicate a portion of our energy to creating limited,
purpose-built interfaces for functions of known value on small devices (e.g.
inventory scanning), and which are also likely to best include some fixed
top and/or bottom elements.

I also want to emphasize that none if this is meant to disparage the work
which has been done so far. It is much harder to make something out of
nothing than to take something and make it better. I also acknowledge that,
while I have spent large amounts of time studying the web client, I have
found zero time to contribute to the actual web client code. That said, if
we can help establish consensus around where we want to end up, I know I
would feel more comfortable jumping in, and I suspect others might as well.

· The final departure from the airport on Tuesday the 12th will now be
around 5.30p rather than 5.00p. Hopefully that should help in case any of you
have late flights.

· There will no longer be a 12.00p pickup from the airport on Wednesday
the 13th, since no one signed up for it. The first pickup on Wednesday will be
around 2.30p.

Please let me know if you have questions. Just as a reminder, here's the

Hi all,

I presented a webinar today on editing receipt templates for our consortium. One of the librarians who attended asked me if there was a way to display a count of the number of items out at the top of the items_out receipt, rather than using
the numbered list. Does anyone know of a way to do this?

Thanks in advance!

list

Hi all,

I administer or co-administer all of the open-ils/evergreen mailing lists, and
I would like to make a motion that we deactivate the Evergreen-Admin mailing
list. It is a very low-traffic list (maybe a dozen monthly posts at its
busiest) with low membership (75 members), and most of the questions asked
there would be appropriate for Open-ILS-General. The list became active in
September 2012 in response to an IRC discussion
(http://evergreen-ils.org/irc_logs/evergreen/2012-05/%23evergreen.18-Fri-2012.log)
where the majority of attendees wanted a dedicated system administration
mailing list.

In my view, the Evergreen-Admin list duplicates the purpose of this, the
General list, in that the General list serves as an all-purpose venue for
(non-development related) technical help in running Evergreen. If you agree,
please +1, otherwise, please state your case for keeping it. ;-)

Thanks!

Chris

It supposed to be realia (three-dimensional objects). That was my brain
mispronunciating it.

Yes, you can cut them out of interfacing too, if they have someone who has
the time and know how that can do it. I just for my purpose use freezer
paper and spray adhesive. But I have used the interfacing technique on a
pattern on craft patterns.

"follow general regalia rules" :) For ceremonial garments I presume? A
Freudian slip?

Perhaps if someone willing to donate the patterns would cut them out of
interfacing (do they still use that anymore?), the non-fusible kind, it
would be nice to share expensive craft patterns.

CWMARS libraries have created records for cake pans, seed libraries, even
kayaks, both single and tandem, and a ukulele.

As someone who sews a good bit, General tissue paper patterns to me would
not hold up under Circulation. Especially multi sized clothing patterns.
Most of these patterns are considered one time use patterns. On patterns I
know I am going to use multiple times, I tend to adhere them to Freezer
paper so I can use them multiple times. With Multi sized patterns you need
to have one pattern for each size of the pattern.

Now if we are talking other types of patterns (Crafts, home décor, etc.),
these would hold up if they were made of something other than tissue, unless
you reinforce them also.

Then you have to talk about missing pieces and damage to patterns, and how
to best adjust for that.

As for the cataloging you would need to follow general regalia rules.
Judicious use of the 500 field would be a must.

We are looking at adding sewing machines and such to a makerspace. So,
adding patterns in the catalog would be logically what they will be wanting
next.

Bill, just to be clear, and I think is what you mean, you're
advocating leaving the "special click" behavior for normal looking
links up to the web browser?

So folks can use whatever they're used to in the environment they're

Yes, exactly, no custom context menus or hard-coded target="_blank" attributes.
 They're just links.

This should work

%SUBSTR(-4)%%notify_by_phone%%SUBSTR_END%

It all depends on if you have regular expressions installed for the phone
number fields. This is also assuming they phone numbers do not have any
extension information in the number.

Now if you have them with extensions in the number you will need something
more like this.

%SUBSTR(8,4)%%notify_by_phone%%SUBSTR_END%

IF phone numbers follow the format of XXX-XXX-. If they follow the
format of (XXX)XXX- then the numbers would be 9,4 instead of the 8,4

We find that the Dymo labels do fade if they are in direct sunlight for an
extended period of time. If the item is shelved where it gets no sunlight,
then they are great, and will last. But the ones that are next to windows,
they are fading even with UV protected tape.

Dymo labels do fade over time, but you can buy special non-fading labels. We
like the 450's, but sometimes label tracking in the printer can get off.
Make sure the sides on the spindle are as tight to the roll of labels as you
can get it ('squeeze the snot out of it', I tell our librarians) and it will
be fine. And labels can get stuck. Never try to pull the labels back
through. The printer can be dissembled but it's no fun.

My preference would be to leave the existing client as is (with the exception
of bug fixes, etc.), but to offer the browser-based modules as options once
they become available. My reasons for this are:

1) It will allow for indepth use of the new module in a production environment
to uncover any bugs or performance issues while still having a known entity as
a backup. No amount of testing is going to uncover all of the odd little
problems like working in a live environment will.

2) When moving back and forth between the two environments, staff will be more
aware of the improved user interface and performance, and I believe they will
be more eager to transition completely to the new environment.

3) The browser-based circulation module may offer some immediate relief to
those frontline circ staff who are struggling with antiquated machines and slow
networks.

4) The new modules can begin to be thoroughly tested on mobile devices that
cannot run the current client.

Hi All,

I've posted a dev log entry briefly discussing the merits/challenges of two
different integration paths for the browser client:

http://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=dev:browser_staff:dev_notes (see
2014-04-04)

I've focused primarily on the technical aspects, but the decision at hand is
much more than a development decision. The path we chose will affect staff,
administrators, support providers, DIG, and developers alike, so I'd like to
get everyone's thoughts on the matter. My post is brief, little more than an
introduction, so please send any questions and comments along to the lists.

Also, add a note to the Hold of the first disc, as a reminder to unsuspend
the hold on the second disc. You can make the Hold Notes print when you
print the Hold Receipt. This is how we usually handle multiple disc/
volumes/series, when they come in wanting the entire series. A word of
warning, in that the hold does count toward the total number of holds a
patron can have.

Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Holds placed prior to status change

2014-02-27 Thread Lynn Floyd
We generally add the titles before release date, and keep them in the
In-processing status. This allows the holds to be placed, but the title is
technically unavailable. Then release date, we check them all in and
capture the holds. We generally do it this way because of the amount of
titles in general we catalog. Also patrons then can place their own holds on
the title, when it shows up in the catalog.

Thanks, everyone. I really appreciate how generous Evergreen librarians are
with their knowledge and experience!

Out of curiosity, is it common practice out there to add hot new titles to
the catalog the day before their lay-down date so that holds can be filled
as soon as a title is released? We have patrons who call first thing on
Tuesdays (mostly) to ask why their hold on the latest bestseller hasn't been
filled yet. If we add items on lay-down day and stash them in the back for
24 hours, they'll scream.

old holds (placed 24 hours ago). So new holds may be targeted by a copy with

The opportunistic capture is related to the hold_copy_map, which is updated

Hi everyone,

I'm testing a new receipt printer, a Star Micronics TSP100, in Evergreen. We
use Evergreen 2.4, and our staff workstations run Linux Mint Debian Edition.
Unfortunately, I'm having trouble getting the receipts to print correctly.
The printer drivers are recognized, and all of programs are able to print to
the printer just fine. However, Evergreen seems to have issues with it. It
will only print if I have the paper size set to a "normal" size (e.g. US
letter). However, if I print to the printer with that size paper set, the
text is tiny (as in, 1-2 point font). If I have the paper size set to the
printer tape size (e.g. 72mm X 2000mm), then Evergreen simply won't print to
the printer at all.

Does anyone have any wisdom to impart on how I can get our receipts to
printer correctly? Is this something where I should be changing the font
size in the receipt template? Is there a way I can get Evergreen to
recognize the correct paper size? I've attached the printer settings.

Cheers!

Since PINES has been with Evergreen from the beginning, most of our reports
template come from the early core sources (like Classic Open Transaction
Summary, Payments: Desk, and Circulation) and I would like to get a more
contemporary and non-PINES perspective on bill and payment reports.
Attached are screenshots of filter settings for some of the more popular
bill and payment report templates used in PINES. If you use substantially
different filters for your bill or payment reports, send me a screenshot. It
would be helpful to me to get a non-PINES point of view.

Currently I am only focusing only filter settings. Display settings come
later.

Thanks.

Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Collection code in acquisitions

2013-05-28 Thread Lynn Floyd
I've not used acquisitions in Evergreen, not even attempted to look at it.
But we use collection codes to tell our catalogers where to place something.
The code corresponds to a set if Item attributes (Shelving location,
Circulation modifier, Circulation library, etc...). If this information is
being sent to the vendor, the vendor takes the code and populates the item
field with the correct information for batch loading.

Hi all,

I'm updating some of the acquisitions documentation, and I thought it
might be useful to address a question that has been raised from time to
time. Does anyone know what purpose the collection code field serves in
acquisitions? I assume there was a specific use case in mind when it was
added.

Thanks!

Rose, all,

Evergreen records a single entry for each payment. So imagine there are
$5.00 in overdue fines and $3.00 in processing fees on one circulation. If
the user pays $8.00 all at once, there's one payment covering all billing
line items, and there's no breakdown showing that three of the dollars went
to processing fees.

I did some work (which has surely suffered from bit rot) back in the 1.2
days to provide such a breakdown in a reporting source, but that did not
make it into the core code back then. The upshot of that is that it's
possible to do, but would take some effort to teach modern Evergreen that
trick.

I'll put up a launchpad bug and attach the code I have. Given time or
sponsorship, hopefully that could make it into a future release.

Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Report question: Need detailed cash report by workstation or org unit

2013-04-29 Thread Lynn Floyd
I have a similar report that runs for us, I had the same problems trying to
get the Source Payments:All to give me what I wanted. I finally switched to
using Payments:Desk which allowed me to limit by workstation. I then limited
it by Cash Drawer: Owing Library: Org Unit

Then is Display fields, I have Cash Drawer: Owing Library: Short (Policy)
Name.

The only limitation I found is it does not include Forgive, work, voids, and
goods payments. As I was looking for the transactions that came across our
Circulation desk this limitation did not matter.

Subject: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Report question: Need detailed cash report by
workstation or org unit

I'm hoping some of you report experts out there can help me with this
request...

One of our library systems needs a detailed cash report to send to their
accountant, which contains all the transactions and what they were for by
workstation or library (there are 3 branches). They noticed, in the report
template we created, that the amount didn't match the summary report they
got from Admin--Local Admin--Cash Reports. We discovered that it was
because one of the base filters was Home Library--but it was the patron's
home library, so was including the amount when they paid it at one of the
other branches. What the library really needs is a filter and displayed
field on either Workstation or Org Unit, so they can arrange on those, but I
can't, for the life of me, figure out how to do that.

Currently, the report uses Source as Payments: All.

It displays Payment Date/Time, Name, Cash Amount, Check Amount, Credit Card
Amount, Forgive Amount, and Barcode (patron).

Base filters currently are Payment Date/Time and Home Library

I tried using Billable Transactions-->User::workstation ID or workstation
org unit and tried using Accepting Staff Member::workstation ID or
workstation org unit, but those didn't work, either. There was no data
entry field or list on the template when I tried those (probably because
they're "link"?).

Any help or advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Debbie

Good afternoon all,

We're running 2.0.7, and we've been having some issues with the holds slips.
I've set up a receipt template that includes the %shelf_expire_time% macro,
which should be displaying when the item can be pulled off the holds shelf.
However, when the slip is printed, all we get is "%shelf_expire_time%"
instead of the date/time. Are we using the wrong macro, or is anyone else
having (or has had) this problem?

In EG 2.1, we--well, I, this was before we started doing
sign-offs--removed the call number column from the list in the Check
In interface (in the name of fewer network calls and improved
performance), and maybe should not have. I know of at least two
libraries that miss it. How do others feel?

Should it be restored outright, or made into a configurable option?

I'm looking for print management software to monitor patron print quotas and
charging. Does anyone have any experience or suggestions? I saw the survey
results from April 2011 that listed four products compatible with 1.4 & 1.6
(below).

Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Receipt printers

2011-05-11 Thread Lynn Floyd
We use the Star TSP100 Tear Bar (TSP113) driver for the TSP100's. We have
not changed any of the other settings, and we occasionally will get what you
are seeing.

When we do get this, there is usually something messed up in the Evergreen
profile on the machine. I have not traced it completely down to what would
be causing the problem. I usually will just delete the profile from the
User's folder (C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Application
Data\OpenILS\open_ils_staff_client), and then recreate it by re-registering
the workstation and then setting the printer up in Evergreen.

Hi Lynn,

Our Star TSP100 printers are working with Evergreen but the transit slips
print a considerable form feed, as if it thinks the paper is 8.5 x 11. I've
toggled settings to receipt paper and we've examined the receipt templates.
Do your transit slips form feed extra paper at the end?

Thanks.

We use Star Micronics TSP100ECO. These are USB thermal printers and work

great. These are totally Font/html configurable on the receipts.

The only minor inconvenience is that if you send something to the printer

the print Dialog box comes up, and you have to hit OK for it to actually

print. There may be a fix for this but I have yet to have the time to

really look in to this.

I bought these when our old Star Micronics SP200's would not work with

1.6.1.4.

Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] User Surveys Question

2011-03-21 Thread Lynn Floyd
We use it to query wither patrons want us to email them our newsletters. I
used the survey because accessing the results was easier than trying to use
any other method.

The biggest con is administrating the surveys once you add one to the
system. We are on version 1.6.1.2. I am hoping that Administrating surveys
are easier in 2.x, which we will be migrating to later this year.

Hi Evergreen listserv,

My name is Bronwyn Guiton and I'm one of Shirley Lew's library students.

I have a question regarding the "surveys" feature within the Evergreen User
Editor (screen shot attached). Does anyone's library use it? If so, why has
your library chosen to use it over other methods of data collection?
Furthermore, in your experience what is the number one pro and con of this
feature?

Feel free to reply on or off the listserv.

Thank you very much for your time.

We use Star Micronics's TSP100's, they are thermal, and once you set the
paper to 72mm Receipt, I have not have a problem out of them that was not
user errors.

[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Question about Evergreen and what it transmits via SIP

I am looking at authentication, with SIP and trying to find out if the User
Statistical categories are sent when a user is authenticated via SIP.

If they are, do they have to be turned on>
And if not, can they be set up to transmit?
