[Openerp-community] odoo vertical-medical

2014-08-04 Thread Mario Arias
Hi,

We have been working on the medical vertical for some time now, and will be
loading soon a proposal to github that adds several features like:

   - SMS/email templates for appointment creation/modification/cancellation
   - Multi medical center, allowing a physician to work in more than one
center and controlling the agendas consolidated per physician and per
   medical center.
   - Weekly agenda template, so physicians and assistants only need to
select an empy slot and fill some fields...
   - Multi level access: physician, assistants, call center operators...
   - Updated Invoicing

And after that...

   - Rename from oemedical to OdooMed
   - QR barcodes
   - Updated to new 8.0 features (qweb reports, new API, ...)

In the mean time, what do you think of this logo...

If you like it for the OCA page / project, let me know and I will provide
the .svg file...

Regards,
-Mario

Idea: Add stethoscope around first 'O', and the symbol you added should

Serpent (Jay ?)... it could be interesting if you / others propose some
more samples... The idea of the post was to create interest from the group
and get help on the project... ;-)
The original logo is attached, as well as one for odoo medical...

Pedro, we also like OdooMedical more. We will do the renaming, but as that
is a second step, we have time for the community to provide more feedback...

In the mean time, this is the updated logo...

If I may verge on the pedantic side... this is not the correct symbol:
you are using Hermes' caduceus (linked to commerce) and not the rod of
Asclepius' rod (linked to medecine). The rod of Asclepius does not bear
wings, and has a single snake.

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rod_of_Asclepius for more information,
and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caduceus_as_a_symbol_of_medicine and
then choose your side :-)

Should we really need to include "Odoo" into it ? why can't it have it's
own identity instead of really depending on identity of "Odoo" ?

Re: [Openerp-community] odoo vertical-medical

2014-08-05 Thread Kitsikpui Elliot Elikplim
The logo loos good, just a few suggestions from my end.
1. The Font of the med should be same as that of the Odoo
2. The space between the Odoo and Med should be closed up a little more.

Thanks and look forward to seeing your module come out in time.

2014-08-05 Thread Mario Arias
About fonts... on "medical" I am using the font that S.A. is using for the
official apps logos...
Same goes for colors, I am using the ones blessed by S.A.

You can check https://www.odoo.com/page/brand-assets

Not sure if that is good or not, but at least will avoid a "fonts and
colors war" were each one likes a different one... ;-)

2014-08-05 Thread Stephen Mack
I like the idea of changing the color of the O in odoo to a new color for
all community based projects (including the community website). This would
help a lot in branding all community based projects and show a quick and
clear distinction between what is an odoo blessed and shipped product and
what has been developed and supported by the community.

Any opinions from OCA board ? The idea is to get a logo for this vertical
and include it on the website...

There are also proposals to use differentiated color schemas on logos for
OCA / community projects... How should we proceed, voting ?

As soon as we make the code change proposals on git, we would like to help
improve content on the site... We first need a working project before
marketing... ;-)

Is there an approval from Odoo to mess up with their logo?
I am sure that is a registered element and regardless of how the community
votes we would still need their approval and sanction.

2014-08-05 Thread Mario Arias
IMHO if we are the odoo community, we should keep the odoo part in ALL
verticals we produce...
How to boost odoo market penetration as a whole if we take the name out of
our work... ??

It means that we as a community need to work out with S.A. how to do
that... Please OCA board and Odoo S.A... provide some guidance...

Re: [Openerp-community] odoo vertical-medical

2014-08-05 Thread David Arnold - El Alemán
I vote for:

- odoo (not oca) for the reasons stated
- change the community color to a bright organge, if permitted by trademark
rights and with odoo approval (it's looking more like a rich ecosystem (!),
than a streamlined group of odoo-soldiers that way)
- compact logo - i would not include the icon into the text, as it looses
momentum when using it independently (as it looses it's prominent position)
- please consider another font for medical, as this is particularely uneven
(especially the 'm')

Re: [Openerp-community] odoo vertical-medical

2014-08-05 Thread Marcelo Bello
Is naming it "Odoo Medical" an option at all? Can anyone create a piece of
software and call it "Odoo Something"? Even if SA agrees to calling it
"Odoo Medical", does anyone understands the good/bad implications of using
their trademark in the naming of a community module?

AFAIK Odoo is a trademark that belongs to a private company. I do not
want to start a thread of conspiracy theories, etc but to me it feels like
someone writing a new piece of software/module on top of Odoo should not
even want to call it "Odoo Something", because it is not Odoo, it is
something else that runs on top of Odoo and this "something else" by the
way was not even developed by Odoo (the company) itself so how come naming
it "Odoo Something" could make any sense?

What you are trying to accomplish (make it clear that the software is
designed to run on Odoo) maybe should be accomplished in a different way.
And maybe the community should start thinking about it now and decide what
is the best way forward for the naming of such software so we can have some
kind of best practice.

if we think about iphone apps, android apps, etc, such necessity to
link the software to the platform the software runs on is unnecessary
because there is a specific marketplace for the platform. If likewise
Medical is advertised on the Odoo marketplace and it is hosted on OCA or
some other repository specific to Odoo then I would say naming it "Medical"
would be sufficient (and the logo could have a phrase like "built for Odoo"
to create the link you want when the app is viewed outside a Odoo context).

My 2 cts.

Same goes for colors, I am using the ones blessed by S.A.

 You can check https://www.odoo.com/page/brand-assets

Not sure if that is good or not, but at least will avoid a "fonts

Re: [Openerp-community] odoo vertical-medical

2014-08-05 Thread Raphael Valyi
As a reminder,

it was decided by Joël Grandguillaume and agreed here that as for OCA
modules, they shouldn't carry the "Odoo" trademark inside their name to
avoid coupling issues in case of future re-branding from any party. Then I
guess we wouldn't want Odoo in the logo either.
But this is for OCA. So far Medical is not OCA. It can becomes eventually
but I'm not sure at this point (not me deciding anyway).

Basically something can enter OCA both if it's important to active OCA
reviewers and if quality is high enough. OCA cannot afford being a
throw-any-code-charity-maintenance option either, as that wouldn't work and
would just add up to frustrations.

I personally will suggest people will be allowed to submit X lines of new
modules to OCA only every Y qualified code review they do (with controls).
A simple rule that could later ensure code review isn't the bottleneck as
it is these days. Anyway, it's slowly but surely ramping up, one cannot
expect things like that be perfect overnight given the overall battlefield
like context of these milestones and surprise rebranding.

Regards.

Re: [Openerp-community] odoo vertical-medical

2014-08-05 Thread Fabien Pinckaers
A quick answer:

- We use our trademark right to protect the Odoo brand from bad usage. E.g:
a proprietary software that would name himself Odoo XYZ, claiming you are a
partner but you are not, ...

- But we allow people to use the Odoo logo in fair ways: community
contributions, selling services on Odoo...

- when using the Odoo logo, we strongly suggest to follow the guidelines to
avoid destructing the brand by having everyone that does something
different. If we all go in the same direction, everyone benefits from a
stronger brand.

- We can improve/complete the guidelines if needed, especially for
community apps for which our guidelines are light. For instance, I think
it's a good idea to include an icon like in your initial proposition, but I
prefer to stick to the current color because the color if the most
distinctive part of Odoo. (And we will invest a lot to build something
around this color) We dropped the ant because it was negatively perceived:
I think it's a bad idea to use the ant in future logos, especially in
medical stuff. ( in one year, every one will have forgotten this ant)

- As a marketing point of view, I don't know if we should create a
differentiation between official apps and community ones (at least those
that decided to go for Odoo XYZ)?

- So, every app author is free to use a Odoo XYZ name.

- Unless you can invest seriously in marketing to build your own brand, my
personal opinion is that you should better call your app Odoo XYZ because
you benefit from the Odoo brand (and protection from the trademark): your
first public will be Odoo partners and communities. (That's what we do for
our own apps, even if we want to brand then separately)

My personal preference: I prefer that buggy apps use a distinctive name and
great apps use a Odoo XYZ name :) I did not tested it but I guess it's a
good contribution so I would vote for Odoo Medical.

Hi Everybody!!!

Fabien... great to listen your aproach. :) I think this is the first time
we know it "officially" even if we are using OpenERP something, Odoo
something names like that since long time ago and we never had negative
advice or something like that from your side but IMHO It's really good,
that you clarify the use of Odoo brand/name to community as you did.

Mario: I like the most OdooMedical with snake on I .It's really nice and
clean logo. Easy to remember.

Alexandre: The best funny font. I'm seriously thinking about starting to
use it!!!

All the rest: GREAT COMMUNITY :)

You should differenciate the technical name (crm, hr_recruitment) and the
public app name (Odoo CRM, Odoo Recruit)

You should not put Odoo in the technical name because it's a mess for
developers.

But for the app name, I don't understand why you would not put the Odoo
name in it? for the majority of the apps (may be not medical), the main
public is Odoo users (people looking for Odoo XYZ on the web) If one app is
called "Odoo Medical" and another one is called with an invented name "Easy
Medical". Which one will be perceived as the main one and will be tested
first by the Odoo community?

In my opinion, it's better if everyone benefit from and contribute to the
Odoo branding rather than using a different name. Mostly because 99.99% of
Odoo apps don't have enough marketing resources to build serious visibility
outside the Odoo world.

PS: There will be no renaming in the future because: we can't afford one
more, we don't need it since the Odoo name has no meaning. Even if Odoo
evolves into something different, the name is not a constraint.

Well, then ask yourself what happened to people who previously listen to
such good advice and invested some energy Tiny CRM or OpenERP CRM or
whatever your-brand-their-code. Not all application that use Postgres brand
themselves Postgres-appname either, so in any case that's really up to the
application authors.

In any case, I'm not suggesting anything there for Medical, just re-calling
what was said for OCA as it was asked in the thread.

Hi everybody,

I personally think that Odoo Medical sounds good, simple and is accurate
(Odoo+Medical). As Fabien suggests, it is easier to rally community and
user with a meaningful name. Nevertheless the change of name have
impacted the community so we need to be careful.

We have board meeting on Monday 11 and will issue a recommendation.

I think the Odoo brand is the best thing that could happen to the
ecosystem! (!) It is so true, what Fabien says from a marketing perspective
- which IMHO is underestimated in the (developper) community. (!) If
community would build an own brand, in order to balance future dynamic and
strategically contain proabably hidden agendas of new investors, Adoo (from
greek Alpha and Omega, A and O) would be a far better choice, than OCA.

Re: [Openerp-community] odoo vertical-medical

2014-08-05 Thread Mario Arias
Well, thanks everybody for participating on this topic...

So far we have:
We *CAN* use odoo as part of the application name, with official blessing
from Fabien. It *doesn't mean* *we* *HAVE TO*, but so far I haven't read
any good and solid reason to not do so (besides some "what if" future
scenarios... )
In this regard, I also favor trying to keep aligned with S.A.'s marketing
campaigns and branding, as we should be joining efforts instead of pulling
in different directions, but that is just my (naive/optimistic) opinion...
  ;-)

We now need please some specific inputs from the *OCA board *to move
forward:

Is medical part of OCA or not? I would say yes, as it even has its own
page on the OCA website... http://odoo-community.org/project/15
and also on the OCA github project...
https://github.com/OCA/vertical-medical

If so, is it possible to stay in OCA using as technical name medical, but
calling the vertical odoo medical ?
If not, then we will need to relocate the project, and start this process
again between all those willing to collaborate...

Based on the answers to these two questions, we as a community will be
ready to start naming all the different odoo verticals hosted in OCA, and
create the corresponding logos..

My personal opinion again... I don't understand why avoid using odoo, if
some of OCA's goals read "promote the use of the Odoo solution, facilitate
synergies, collaborations..."
How omitting odoo in the name helps to reach those goals ?? it is even
part of the name of the association!!

If tomorrow, or in ten years, S.A. goes evil (I still don't get why this is
a recurring topic in the community by the way) wouldn't it be the same
work as anyways the whole association name would need to change its name ??

Re: [Openerp-community] odoo vertical-medical

2014-08-06 Thread Luis Panozzo
Donning my devil's advocate suit (or hat) I have to take exception with the
allowance for everyone being able to use the Odoo brand.
Yes, we need all the marketing muscle we can muster but indiscriminate
usage of the Odoo name can very easily backfire.
Of course, community based initiatives will have reviews, internal
criticism et al. Good will all around.
Applause for that.
But many people may see this as an opportunity to distribute below-par
software under the Odoo umbrella.
And if there is no rein to this practice the ultimate victim of the lack of
control is going to be the brand itself. Let alone the possibility of
confusion. What or who may stop three different organizations from
launching Odoo Legal or Odoo Trains or whatever? Or five organizations?
(But I guess this matter deserves a new thread so as not to contaminate
Mario's initiative which, I feel, deserves all the praise it can get)
IMHO

That is a good point, it's not that far fetched for people to release
modules named "Odoo " just to make it seem more official
and of good quality.
I think OpenERP SA should give the right to use the Odoo trademark for
modules name only to the OCA association: that way if you want to name
a module Odoo you have to pass through the OCA and, therefore, through
a "peer review" process.

+1 to Leonardo,

Using "Odoo" naming without any type of review would surely hurt the brand
name it self instead of helping it to grow. Better if any one willing to
use it go through a review process, Odoo may think about charging some
amount as well if they think it's going to be time consuming to review it,
else OCA driven certification or review should be done.
This will surely lead to quality work available and keep non serious
project away from using the name.

It is already a repository waiting for my personal job in the migration (I

I like the "vertical-medical" for "Technical Name".

In the repo itself, you can build its own README.md for GOogle analytics,
where the "BRanding" and the "app (module wich install everithing)" van bw
called odoo_medical.

Please don't do that.

Remember the begining of the move in Launchpad, it was hard, and it is
already in OCA since the begining.

Yes you can as you did here.

1.- Propose.
2.- Read feedback.
3.- Make conclusions.
4.- Start Pushing.

remember you here read "Personal opinions", not "Formelly opinions", it
means, even If I am a memeber of the OCA board, my opoinion is my opinion,
we just "move the conclusion forward to be executed in an orginized way."

That's why you are right this time, remember odoo-medical comes from
medical (tryton) which changed to GNU health. we migrated to openerp
call it oemedical... you forkit locally and sent this message due to
improve some works locally then we are agreed (I think) here that we
can take Odoo Medical for the App, and vertical-medical for technical names
(just because we stablished this rule on OCA, to avoid "1000
odoo-something" repos it is a practical reason"

I would suggest medical instead of vertical-medical for the name of the
module. One of the technical guidelines is to have object name that start
with the name of their module to respect the namespace across objects.

The name of the repository can be vertical-medical.

Re: [Openerp-community] odoo vertical-medical

2014-08-07 Thread Mario Arias
Great!

Then so far we have:

   - Vertical-medical is a first class citizen of OCA (not there by any
   mistake)
   - Repository name will stay Vertical-Medical, so it will be located in
   githut at OCA/vertical-medical
   - Technical name will be medical, so modules will be named medical_
   - Application name will be Odoo Medical, to be used for
   promotion/marketing...

I will push the name changes next week, together with several functional
ones, and will send another message when ready. After that, everybody will
be welcomed to contribute and make this vertical THE open source
application for physicians and medical centers worldwide... ;-)

As for the logo, we still need resolution/guidance from OCA:

   - Fonts and colors: Stay with the official ones or push different ones
   for OCA projects
   - Use "wide" logos like the official ones (one line with odoo +
application_name) or make the logos use two lines (first one for "odoo" and
   second one for application_name)

Again, thank you all for your participation !!

IMO, every project steering committee / team should be free to decide which

2014-08-08 Thread Eric Caudal
I still think that OCA should have a "reasonable" marketing and
consistent approach on logos or naming.
We are investing a huge amount of effort in the background (high
standard quality code) and the foreground (logo, image, naming, etc.,)
need to be consistent and reflect this background quality.
I am not saying that we need to rule over every aspect of the logos,
messages, motto etc. but this is important as part of an overall

Hi,

IMO, every project steering committee / team should be free to decide
which logo they prefer to use.

As long as there is no offense to OCA goals, I see no reason to
provide rules or guidance here.

Personally, I liked the odoo medical with the snake on the "I".

Joël

Great!

Then so far we have:

  * Vertical-medical is a first class citizen of OCA (not there by
any mistake)
  * Repository name will stay Vertical-Medical, so it will be
located in githut at OCA/vertical-medical
  * Technical name will be medical, so modules will be named
medical_
  * Application name will be Odoo Medical, to be used for
promotion/marketing...

I will push the name changes next week, together with several
functional ones, and will send another message when ready. After
that, everybody will be welcomed to contribute and make this
vertical THE open source application for physicians and medical
centers worldwide... ;-)

As for the logo, we still need resolution/guidance from OCA:

  * Fonts and colors: Stay with the official ones or push
different ones for OCA projects
  * Use "wide" logos like the official ones (one line with odoo +
application_name) or make the logos use two lines (first one
for "odoo" and second one for application_name)

Again, thank you all for your participation !!

Regards,
-Mario
