I think that (you are interested in) was mentioned in this list, not in

So, you might try to search list as well...

Hi Мартин,

Just small observation regarding this package:
/opt/VirtualBox/VBoxGuestAdditions.iso contains ONLY solaris additions...

I have fixed that "problem":

* Downloading
http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/5.1.6/VirtualBox-5.1.6-110634-SunOS.tar.gz
* Running command: "pkgtrans VirtualBox-5.1.6-SunOS-amd64-r110634.pkg ."
(got pkg file from tar above)
* pfexec cp SUNWvbox/root/opt/VirtualBox/VBoxGuestAdditions.iso
/opt/VirtualBox/VBoxGuestAdditions.iso (change was immediately visible
to booted guest)

Once more: thanks for package :-)

With best regards.

[OpenIndiana-discuss] Q: What is status of dtrace on /hipster ?

2016-09-16 Thread Predrag Zečević - Unix Systems Administrator

hi,

I had to compile MySQL 5.7 (for internal tests) and attempted to use
dtrace. Looks like it is broken on /hispter (also Berekeley-DB
compilation failed when dtrace is enabled).

Is this general issue with dtrace OR just some parts are broken?

With best regards.

[OpenIndiana-discuss] /hisper: latest upgrade caused Xorg to die (coredump)

2016-09-13 Thread Predrag Zečević - Unix Systems Administrator

Hi All,

I have strange situation when tried to update BE for currently running:
SunOS Release 5.11 Version illumos-cb3c687 64-bit
to latest one:
SunOS Release 5.11 Version illumos-e2af1b5 64-bit

When tried to boot int new BE, Xorg has dumped core:

Xorg.0.log contains nothing suspicious; /var/adm/messages too. So, not
sure from where to start. System was booted, but w/o GUI - most of
services were set to offline.

I was forced to boot into old environment. Does anyone has clue what
could be cause (no H/W was changed - just BE updated and tried to boot).

dbx complained:
...

mdb gave some output too:

Is it possible to have both installed but select which one to run? I
recall that at one time, Solaris 10 offered both CDE and Gnome
desktops. You could select the one your preferred from the login
screen. Something similar for OI might be useful.

PS: If there are files that are required by both Mate and Gnome,
you could put them in a desktop common meta-package.

Hi all,

I am running both (and can pick any of them) :-)

On 08/16/16 05:12 PM, Alexander Pyhalov wrote:

Hello, people.

I wanted to announce availability of Mate some time ago, but there were
some issues, especially when I tried to build Mate Live CD. Good news is
that now most irritating issues (or at least those which I found) are
fixed.

So, let me introduce Mate 1.14. To facilitate installing, I've created
pkg:/mate_install, which should be shortly available. Unfortunately,
when you have both Gnome 2 and Mate installed, both of them try to use
the same applications, so you'll have interesting time removing Gnome 2
applications from Mate and vice versa.

Currently Mate packages are

desktop/pdf-viewer/atril

desktop/mate/mate-dictionary
desktop/mate/mate-disk-usage-analyzer

desktop/mate/mate-icon-theme
desktop/mate/mate-media
desktop/mate/mate-notification-daemon
desktop/mate/mate-panel
desktop/mate/mate-session-manager
desktop/mate/mate-settings-daemon
terminal/mate-terminal
desktop/mate/mate-themes
desktop/mate/mate-user-guide
desktop/system-monitor/mate-system-monitor
desktop/xdg/menu-editor/mozo
editor/pluma
image/viewer/eom
library/desktop/mate/mate-desktop
# Not strictly mate, but gdm brings in too much gnome2
system/display-manager/lightdm
system/display-manager/lightdm/gtk-greeter

Known MATE issues:
- power management is based on upower (hal support removed), so it
doesn't work (affects mate-applets(batstat), mate power manager)
- nautilus zfs integration uses illumos private interfaces and wasn't
ported to caja
- compiz integration to GNOME control center uses gconf settings. To
work with mate code should be migrated to gsettings
- GUI interface to reboot to specific BE is not preserved

As for LightDM, it worked for me, but there was one issue, which I
didn't manage to catch:
- On some conditions when ligthdm is disabled, it fails to switch active
VT back to /dev/vt/0. If you can reproduce it or have some ideas why it
happens (and lightdm does it in sigterm handler), I'll be glad to hear.

Now, about ISOs:
They are available at http://dlc-int.openindiana.org/hipster/20160816/ ,
sha256 checksums are in
http://dlc-int.openindiana.org/hipster/20160816/sha256sums.txt .

Two new image types: OI_MATE - this is Mate-based LiveDVD and OI_minimal
(we tried to strip down OI a bit). One thing about minimal image - it
doesn't deliver sudo, so initial user just gets root role. Note, these
are test images and not official snapshots.

We would be glad for you to test them.

We'd like to hear your opinion, which images are necessary for next
snapshot (supposedly, 2016.10). We think that minimal one, Mate and
Gnome one are enough. We are going to avoid delivering Gnome ISO image
after next snapshot (in 2017).

Also we are interested to hear if community needs VM images, and if it
needs, then what exactly (qcow2, vmdk or something else).

Hi!

Thanks for bringing MATE to us!

I have already installed it and it looks faster and better utilizes
graphic card/monitor (that is first impression on same h/w).

Will keep gnome2 for the moment, until I try everything.

With best regards.

Hi,

I am using PC with motherboard:
Manufacturer: ASRock
Product Name: B150M Pro4S

It has built in (on-board) USB3 + USB2 controller. Right now it runs
under "legacy" emulation (and I had to add PCIe USB2 card in order to
use OI Hipster).

Regarding devices, I have not so big choice - will use existing USB2

[OpenIndiana-discuss] VirtualBox 5.0.24 removes sound from guest

2016-07-01 Thread Predrag Zečević - Unix Systems Administrator

Hi all,

can someone (with already installed VirtualBox 5.0.24 on /hipster as
host *and* Windows 10 guest) do quick check for me?

This morning I have upgraded VB from 5.0.22 to 5.0.24 and lost sound in
guest :-(

If I check VBox.log (grep -i audio VBox.log)
5.0.22:

00:00:00.461167 Audio: WARNING: Solaris Audio is deprecated, please
switch to OSS!

5.0.24:

No /hipster update is performed, e.g. only VBox has been changed...

Does anyone else has same/similar problem?
(right now, I have reverted back to 5.0.22)

Regards.

Probably was working until latest move to 2.7 (you know: once set it and

You will also need pycairo-27.

Hi Alp.

yes, that did it!
Maybe to add it to prerequisite packages list for time-slider?

Many thanks. Best regards/Привет!

Hi, what is your userland-incorporation ? (and osnet-incorporation).

I have time-slider now online (enabled with GUI, entering admin account
username/password from System>Administration>Time Slider) .
My HD space is low so I suppose it reduces number of snapshots it makes,
but since enabling it made monthly and frequent snapshot (s).

I would like to try to reproduce it, Do you get the message when trying
to have time-slider service online with svcadm?
I didn't reboot yet after enabling it with GUI. Userland 6704 and osnet
15736 here, updated yesterday.
  (userland-incorporation@0.5.11-2016.0.0.6704:20160626T184119Z ,
osnet-incorporation@0.5.11-2016.0.0.15736:20160623T133447Z)

Hi Nikola,
This is interesting:

About reported bug, alp seems to nailed it,
just need to build and land in /hipster publisher:
https://github.com/OpenIndiana/oi-userland/commit/2b90a552545430335eb8ed4b0b7d69aa3d7b09a5

See how it goes for you after landing. Btw, do you have any more
complicated/custom time-slider service settings?

$ pkg list | grep -E "(userland|osnet).*incorporation"
consolidation/osnet/osnet-incorporation (openindiana.org)
0.5.11-2016.0.0.15736  i--

[Looks like I have no userland one? Is that OK?]

You can normally have both entire and userland-incorporation and
osnet-incorporation, to be at the same level with regular installs.
I uninstall them only temporarily when testing something.

There is an idea to have also hipster-incorporation, numbered, so that
one can refer it as both userland-incorporation and osnet-incorporation
when reporting bugs and reproducing.
Untill there is hipster-incorporation one needs to hunt what osnet
coincided with what userland to reproduce packages state at some exact time.

Now one wanting to test/have it's own packages installed removes entire
and userland-incorporation and/or osnet-incorporation , only difference
would be it needs to remove one more incorporation
(hipster-incorporation) or use facets
<http://alp-notes.blogspot.rs/2015/10/userland-incorporation-in-openindiana.html>
for it.

Thanks for tip!

That has fixed it:
$ pfexec pkg install -v library/python/pygobject-27

Now I have cleared maintenance and time-slider is started as service...

What is not working yet is System -> Administration -> Time Slider GUI
tool for setup... Also, when called from shell:

$ /usr/bin/time-slider-setup

It exists straightaway out w/o any message...

Probably something else is still missing...

Regards.

Hello, guys!

Please, update your systems and report any issues.

Brief instructions:
1) create backup BE
2) update to latest Hipster
3) pkg set-publisher -P -g http://xzone.oi-build.r61.net:1000/ userland
4) pkg set-publisher --non-sticky openindiana.org
5) pkg install pkg://userland/*

Reboot and see if something went wrong.

Update:

a) I would like to stress that steps 1 and 2 have to be swapped
b) we need 2 more steps to be done before step 5 (like Alp has suggested):
# pkg change-facet
facet.require.consolidation/userland/userland-incorporation=False

# pkg uninstall userland-incorporation

After reboot I got set of updates from xzone repository and working with
it few hours already without any issue :-)

Many thanks for this work and great help.

Hi Alp,

that helped a bit! Still this error:
pkg install: No matching version of
x11/server/xorg/driver/xorg-input-hotkey can be installed:

(see also attached file).

And what depends on it?

pkg search -l 'depend::*x11/server/xorg/driver/xorg-input-hotkey*' |awk
'{ printf $NF; }' | cut -d @ -f 1

pkg search -r 'depend::*x11/server/xorg/driver/xorg-input-hotkey*' |awk
'{ printf $NF; }' | cut -d @ -f 1

Hi Alp,
Funny, both commands show nothing:

$ pkg search -l 'depend::*x11/server/xorg/driver/xorg-input-hotkey*' |
awk '{ printf $NF; }' | cut -d @ -f 1
$ pkg search -l 'depend::*x11/server/xorg/driver/xorg-input-hotkey*'

Regards.

But this one (not sure if useful at all):
$ pkg contents -t depend -H -o action.raw
x11/server/xorg/driver/xorg-input-hotkey

depend fmri=pkg:/system/library@0.5.11-2016.0.0.15677 type=require

Hi. This is expected. For ipkg zones NGZ's publisher's configurations
should be a superset of GZ's publishers configuration, and publisher
order matters.

Alp, thanks for clarification...

Is there any way to avoid steps 3) and 4) on zone? E.G: I would like to
avoid changing publishers for zone (it does not use any GUI anyway)?

The reason for 3) is to give a higher priority to the test repository and
then 4) allows updating packages versions across publishers, this is
compulsory.

Thank you

Hi Gabriele,

I have had similar problem with my new PC motherboard:
Manufacturer: ASRock
Product Name: B150M Pro4S

System was installed by opening case and adding SATA DVDROM device and
using TEXT install (graphic install was failing with and w/o NVIDIA card
- motherboard has built-in Intel graphics - which I still cannot use).

My keyboard WAS working fine after install (on extra PCIe USB 2.0 card,
because 2 on-board USB 2.0 slots did not let me use keyboard as USB, but
just PS/2 in legacy mode ONLY).

That behavior has changed with some Illumos changes after March
29.03.2016 (was not searching net to see what was changed, I have hit
VirtualBox crashing because SMAP feature added to Illumos - see
http://wiki.openindiana.org/pages/diffpages.action?pageId=22773825=30802442
note)

Right now, on grub screen I cannot use USB keyboard (which works later,
after system is booted; which is another problem - not relevant to topic).

HTH
With best regards.

I've seen the same, and the issue was discussed on the list in the past.

OpenIndiana's default SSH (client and server) dates from the days when
Sun had their own fork of ssh -- I forget which branch theirs derives
from, but it's not from (portable) OpenSSH.

If you have the 'sfe' package publisher added on your OI system, there's
a 'network/openssh' package that contains OpenSSH 6.2.2 clients.  I
haven't tried it, but it will probably have support for newer algorithms

There is now a language switcher on the menu.

- Static content in pages

Other languages can be added if someone volunteers.

Hi

I have just tested the MATE demo.

You have to unpack it into /usr. it does not get detected under /usr/local.
There may be a trick with PATH variable but i would not know how.

When i try to launch a mate session i get a completely green screen
nothing more.

Greetings Toasterson

Hi Toasterson,

I did unpacked MATE to separate directory, and navigated there, then:
$ ls -la
total 22K
drwxr-xr-x 11 rootroot   11 May 11 08:23 .
drwxr-xr-x  3 predrag_zecevic admin   3 May 11 08:23 ..
drwxr-xr-x  2 rootroot   82 May  5 18:27 bin
drwxr-xr-x  3 rootroot3 Mar 29  2015 doc
drwxr-xr-x  7 rootroot7 May  5 18:27 etc
drwxr-xr-x 24 rootroot   24 May  5 18:27 include
drwxr-xr-x 20 rootroot  110 May  5 18:28 lib
drwxr-xr-x  5 rootroot   30 May  5 17:50 libexec
drwxr-xr-x  3 rootroot3 Mar 29  2015 man
drwxr-xr-x  2 rootroot3 May  3 14:57 sbin
drwxr-xr-x 58 rootroot   58 May  5 18:27 share

I see that that structure is not same as / one, and also some files will
be replaced on existing OS (latest /hipster in my case), for example:

$ ls -al etc/dbus-1/system.d/pulseaudio-system.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1.1K May  5 18:27
etc/dbus-1/system.d/pulseaudio-system.conf

$ ls -al /etc/dbus-1/system.d/pulseaudio-system.conf
-r--r--r-- 1 root bin 1.4K Oct  3  2015
/etc/dbus-1/system.d/pulseaudio-system.conf

What I did NOT checked is how many other files will be replaced and how
many files will be installed on wrong place, for example 'lib' dir
should go to '/usr/lib'?

With best regards.

GDM autodetects mate if its installed and lists it as Option under

Under comments on that intel Haswell hardware-related bug, there is a

and recommendations for putting workaround to put in kernel..
Maybe with one more bug report and more data , in kernel changes for
possible hardware workaround could be sponsored.

I reported using same illumos timestamp with no issues at the moment,
but truly with the other hardware then yours.
Do you actually use benefits of VirtualBox proprietary extension and can
you try without having it installed. (Make new BE out of working, boot
from new BE, disable extension, update)

Well, using extensions heavily, especially for Win guest...

You could try disabling some of drivers that are non-essential and try

What are VBox machine settings

ALL VMs are failing (both Win and Linux).

It is valuable to see what is actually going on, because running on
newer hardware truly is more valuable for the future then the old
hardware I run on..

Sure.

If at the moment VBox is working right on one OI's BE, VBox stays the
same and you try getting just illumos is updated, that is where to find
the problem as you suggested.

Yes.

Feel free to come to irc.Freenode.net, #openindiana and #oi-dev and
#illumos IRC channels so we can interactively discuss, pastebin/bpaste
and try to see what could be done for your install.

It was there from very long ago. Certain device nodes maintained by virtualbox
are owned by the vboxusers group, so people wanting usb passthrough, maybe raw
host partition delegation, etc. and some other usecases must be members of the
group.

Not every usecase needs it - so maybe you never cared ;)

Dear all,

thanks for ideas, but you probably have missed that VBox is working with
some older bits (BE) already, ONLY when I upgrade BE it stops (actually
crashes box). My user account is member of that group already (in this
working BE, which is then updated):

$ grep predrag /etc/group
vboxuser::1962:predrag_zecevic

Is it "vboxuser" or "vboxusers"?

Anyway, tried everything I could think of, and nothing works...

VT and without (I run xubuntu inside Vbox, XP and others), guests are

Try re-installing VirtualBox (might need to patch vboxconfig_sh to
uninstall) but you have patched Vbox on that Mega link if fresh
installing.
What is your hardware? Mine is from C2Duo T5600 and Pentium E5200 era.

Hi Nikola,

I have tried with re-installation, AND I am using Jim's fix and IT is
working with this kernel:
$ uname -rosv
SunOS 5.11 illumos-258e862 Solaris

Until now, all updates went fine. Since then (some changes made after
approx 2016-03-29 makes it failing).

H/W is quiet new (I had to add extra Graphic, Network and USB 2.0 PCIe
cards to have OI working). Here extracts from 'dmidecode' utility:

Hi all,

I have updated my /hipster installation from:
$ uname -rosv
SunOS 5.11 illumos-258e862 Solaris

to(today's one):
SunOS 5.11 illumos-a48d812 Solaris

As soon as I start VBox guest, kernel crashes... (which is not case with
this OLDER one - nothing else has changed).

[OpenIndiana-discuss] /hipster: thunderbird and firefox spellchecking

2016-03-21 Thread Predrag Zečević - Unix Systems Administrator

Hi all,

On my /hipster installation (last update performed today) I have
installed these versions:

mail/thunderbird  38.6.0-2015.0.2.0
 i--
web/browser/firefox   45.0.1-2015.0.2.0
 i--

Few minutes ago I have noticed that spell checking is working again on
TB, but not on FF... Does anyone else have same or different behavior?

Regards.

Hi Andrey,

tested with /hipster FF 43.0.4 (all located in /usr/lib/firefox

somehow scrambled, and I didn not had time to fix it).

I can confirm that it works just fine :-)

Hi,

latest version (from http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/):

Solaris Flash Player 11.2.202.223 is the last supported Flash Player

P.S. I have tried to get source and compile it, but it is somehow
scrambled - compilation has failed.

[OpenIndiana-discuss] Network card "Intel Ethernet Connection (2) I219-V" support (OI, Hipster)

2015-12-28 Thread Predrag Zečević - Unix Systems Administrator

Hi all,

I have PC with "Intel Ethernet Connection (2) I219-V" onboard network
card and it is not recognized by OI (Hipster) installation...

When looking at this list: http://illumos.org/hcl/ it is true - no such
card there

But, on my (other PC installed OI Hipster) in /usr/share/hwdata/pci.ids
I can see it:

15b8  Ethernet Connection (2) I219-V

and also previous "models" (found on HCL listed above):

15a1  Ethernet Connection (2) I218-V
15a3  Ethernet Connection (3) I218-V

Is it possible to get (somehow) this card (reported by installation
driver compatibility program as pci1849,15b8) supported?

I guess, it might work?

Regards.

IMHO OpenIndiana /hipster is OK for desktop use (not ideal, but if you
like it...).

For serious use (if Oracle Solaris is out of question) I would use one
of SERVER distributions, mentioned here:
http://wiki.illumos.org/display/illumos/Distributions (SmartOS is maybe
best choice. Of course I do not know what needs you really have)

Personally I use /hipster from OI for every day job (is that production
use?) and despite some problems and missing bits, I found it very stable
and fairly good to use (consider latest Firefox,
OpenSSH/OpenSSL/OpenLDAP, OpenOffice, LibreOffice /SFE/, TimeSlider,
VirtualBox, etc).

Best regards.

Hi Stefan,

depends on "server" definition!

If that is SAMP - no problems (Apache/PHP are latest ones, and instead
of MySQL use either Percona or MariaDb - which is great).

CIFS/Samba also works fine, Has all sort of servers: sFTP, FTP, DNS, etc
VirtualBox runs everything

So, can be used in most cases (once more: depends what is server
definition) *but* it is NOT decalred as ready for production use, so one
can use it if that is acceptable...

Also, number of people involved in OS maintenance made me suggest
SmartOS or OmniIT...

Best regards.

P.S I am writing this from OI /hipster which I still find attractive and
useful.

but it looks like gcc want's its very own way to do things.
It revealed that the perl module asked for gcc switch "-fstack-protection"
and that made it require the static libssp_nonshared.a

So you may choose to upgrade to
gcc-48-runtime@4.8.5,5.11-0.0.151.1.8:20151123T153854Z
and get libssp_nonshared.a

As well I've added for perl-522 the package perl-5/term-readkey (Term::ReadKey)

Regards,
Thomas

Hi Thomas,

thanks for update, so here is status:

a) gcc problem (missing lib) is fixed
b) *but* package 'library/perl-5/term-readkey' delivers files to wrong
directory: "/usr/perl5/vendor_perl/5.22.0" while /hipster installs
everything to "/usr/perl5/vendor_perl/5.22"

Anyway, now I was able to compile one... Maybe to check other perl
modules too and try to match /hipster installation...

  Repository localhostoih serves libreoffice4 (which works fine, but requires
  gcc 4.8 runtime from /localhostoih repository).

  From the other side, /hispter delivers gcc 4.9 - so, now I have following
  situation:
  $ pkg list | grep -E "gcc.*4.(8|9)"

  ld: fatal: file processing errors. No output written to
  blib/arch/auto/Term/ReadKey/ReadKey.so
  collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status

  ^^ It looks like perl (5.22) is compiled with OI gcc 4.8, which was
  replaced with new one recently. Problem is actually in both OI and SFE:

  *** SFE gcc 4.8 is missing  /usr/gcc/4.8/lib{/amd64}/libssp_nonshared.a
  files (those ARE present in OI gcc 4.8):
  $ pkg search -r /usr/gcc/4.8/lib/libssp_nonshared.a
  INDEX  ACTION VALUE  PACKAGE
  path   file   usr/gcc/4.8/lib/libssp_nonshared.a
  pkg:/developer/gcc-48@4.8.5-2015.0.1.0
  path   file   usr/gcc/4.8/lib/libssp_nonshared.a
  pkg:/developer/gcc-48@4.8.5-2015.0.2.0

  *but* that one (OI gcc 4.8) cannot be installed because of some conflicts:
  $ pfexec pkg uninstall -v sfe/developer/gcc-48
  ...
  $ pfexec pkg install -v pkg://openindiana.org/developer/gcc-48
  ...
  pkg install: The following packages all deliver file actions to
  usr/gcc/4.8/lib/amd64/libatomic.so.1.0.0:

pkg://localhostoih/sfe/system/library/gcc-48-runtime@4.8.5,5.11-0.0.151.1.8:20151010T221843Z
  pkg://openindiana.org/developer/gcc-48@4.8.5,5.11-2015.0.2.0:20151113T125128Z

  These packages may not be installed together. Any non-conflicting set may
  be, or the packages must be corrected before they can be installed.
  ...
  ETC

  So, I want to keep libreoffice4 (because openoffice 4 has problems) and to
  install perl modules...

  I cannot determine which GCC was used for perl (but perl is 32 bit):
  $ perl -v
  This is perl 5, version 22, subversion 0 (v5.22.0) built for
  i86pc-solaris-64int

  $ file /usr/perl5/5.22/lib/i86pc-solaris-64int/CORE/libperl.so: ELF 32-bit
  LSB dynamic lib 80386 Version 1, dynamically linked, not stripped

  $ readelf -Wa /usr/perl5/5.22/lib/i86pc-solaris-64int/CORE/libperl.so | grep
  GCC
  [RETURNS nothing], but CPAN looks for gcc 4.8

  Solution is either:

  a) SFE has to fix gcc 4.8 to include
  /usr/gcc/4.8/lib{/amd64}/libssp_nonshared.a files (and maybe some other)
  b) OI to compile perl with gcc 4.9

  Any thoughts? Or maybe better solution? Maybe I am making mistake somewhere?

  With best regards.

The issues which were addressed in the component:
- our GCC uses Sun ld, so I have to use wrapper to convert Sun ld

Unfortunately, I couldn't fix component using Sun ld, so it uses GNU ld
(as Martin proposed).

I've checked that plugins fork with this FF version. If no major issues

So, please, test it before it is in official repository.

Once again, thanks Martin for his great work. Without him this wouldn't

Here are still some issues, like non-working spell-checker. Some Java
plugins don't work (but I'm not sure they worked with old FF version).
Also, as Martin has written in his

our langpacks are broken and need some work. As they have been already

Martin B. aka OpenSXCE.org (_HE_!) herewith **donates** 6 hyper-fulltime

weekends) to the
OpenSXCE/DilOS/Illumos/OpenSolaris/Sun-Solaris/Oracle-Solaris/OpenIndiana/Hipster
(and all other OpenSolaris based distros') communities.

Originally he wanted to publish this stuff in April (at the time for
FireFox37 which he then after certain events only published as binary
package, which can still be obtained from
http://opensxce.org/.FF/37/i386/). But testing the water faced him with
egoistic GIMME GIMME MOAR _demands*_, rather than any noticable
support, like last time when he published OpenSXCE, like last time when
he had created the SPARC-OpenIndiana LiveDVD, like last time when he
released SPARC-Xorg in 2006, like last time when he published the Qemu
port to SPARC-Solaris hosts in 2006, like last time when [...]

Folks called him a "capitalist", only because he dared to ask for some
(so called) "donations".
Look how foolish this is: A capitalist is somebody who does something
for a profit. Profit would mean getting more - (a lot!) more - than
having invested, rather than getting back maybe 5% of the actual costs
(electricity, computer, hdd, food, powerdrinks, room, all bills in
Germany are extremely high), plus additionally getting nothing for the
actual time spent nor any other reward for the lack of income during all
this time spent. Even a toilet-cleaner is rich in contrast, because he
does get something for his time.

Who doesn't know (or understand) the difference between M.B. (who spent
more than ten [probably more than twenty] thousand unpaid hours on
OpenSolaris community related work since 2005 [and at Blastwave since
2003) should read:

"Anti-Social Capitalist" ???
--->> That's not him who loves OpenSolaris so much that he ruined his

NOPE: That's most readers of this mailing list, who only show up once in
2 years to make some useless one-liner comment.
And if they do, then only to criticize those few real OpenIndiana
contributors that are really working on this (Hipster team!).
Yesterday there were such comments again (like "Hipster is going
nowhere" or "write up instructions").
Thos instructions are on the openindiana page for years. But only those
truly interested in contributing something would come across them,
rather than some show-offs and time-wasters who can only blame and
complain (the referred post was only a single example, other mailing
list members are much worse).
True Anti-Social beings are those biz owners or well paid biz-admins who
deploy OI countless times for commercial installations while keeping all
the 1000's of Dollars for themselves, rather than giving anything back
to the Hipster team.

[OpenIndiana-discuss] /hipster-2015: library/lzo package problem

2015-10-27 Thread Predrag Zečević - Unix Systems Administrator

Hi all,

I am running system which was upgraded from 151a7 -> 151a9 -> /hipster
-> /hipster-2014 -> /hipster-2015 and now I am faced with being unable
to get rid of library/lzo package from old sfe repository
(http://pkg.openindiana.org/sfe publisher):

Project URL: http://www.oberhumer.com/opensource/lzo/

Package has wrong Version number, and:

$ pfexec pkg uninstall -vn library/lzo

How to replace library/lzo@2.6-0.151.1.5 with

It's not an issue as we don't provide any content in */g++/* packages

Question is what happens with current installations and are OI

We keep A/g++/B packages in /hipster-2015 repository which are marked
renamed and depend on corresponding A/B packages. As libraries are under
/usr/lib now, they are picked by applications.
But if SFE application depends on later library version, it should use
SFE-provided package. I don't know if IPS will fetch it automatically or
user will have to add corresponding package to the list of packages to
install.

[OpenIndiana-discuss] /hipster: rsyslog question

2015-07-14 Thread Predrag Zečević - Unix Systems Administrator

Hi all,

I have enabled rsyslog service (instead of default system-log):

$ svcs system-log
STATE  STIMEFMRI
disabled8:48:36 svc:/system/system-log:default
online  8:52:13 svc:/system/system-log:rsyslog

and I am faced with strange error during reboot! From
/var/svc/log/system-system-log:rsyslog.log:

[ Jul 14 08:48:37 Executing start method (/lib/svc/method/rsyslog). ]
savecore: open(/dev/dump): No such file or directory
[ Jul 14 08:48:42 Method start exited with status 0. ]
[ Jul 14 08:48:43 Stopping because process dumped core. ]
[ Jul 14 08:48:43 Executing stop method (:kill). ]
[ Jul 14 08:48:43 Executing start method (/lib/svc/method/rsyslog). ]
savecore: open(/dev/dump): No such file or directory
[ Jul 14 08:48:43 Method start exited with status 0. ]
[ Jul 14 08:48:43 Stopping because process dumped core. ]
[ Jul 14 08:48:43 Executing stop method (:kill). ]
[ Jul 14 08:48:43 Executing start method (/lib/svc/method/rsyslog). ]
savecore: open(/dev/dump): No such file or directory
[ Jul 14 08:48:43 Method start exited with status 0. ]
[ Jul 14 08:48:43 Stopping because process dumped core. ]
[ Jul 14 08:48:43 Executing stop method (:kill). ]
[ Jul 14 08:48:43 Executing start method (/lib/svc/method/rsyslog). ]
savecore: open(/dev/dump): No such file or directory
[ Jul 14 08:48:43 Method start exited with status 0. ]
[ Jul 14 08:48:43 Stopping because process dumped core. ]
[ Jul 14 08:48:43 Executing stop method (:kill). ]
[ Jul 14 08:48:43 Restarting too quickly, changing state to maintenance. ]

So, it went to maintenance, because /dev/dump link wasn't created BEFORE
rsyslog is started (it is managed by svc:/system/dumpadm:default
service, right?). From /var/svc/log/system-dumpadm:default.log we see:

[ Jul 14 08:48:39 Enabled. ]
[ Jul 14 08:49:41 Executing start method (/lib/svc/method/svc-dumpadm). ]
[ Jul 14 08:49:42 Method start exited with status 0. ]
savecore: bad magic number 6db6db6d

That dumpadm was started AFTER 1st attempt of rsyslog... Also, sym-link
confirmes that:

$ ls -alL /dev/dump
crw-rw 1 root sys 281, 0 Jul 14 08:52 /dev/dump
$ ls -al /dev/dump
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 29 Nov 21  2013 /dev/dump -
../devices/pseudo/dump@0:dump

$ ls -al /devices/pseudo/dump@0:dump
crw-rw 1 root sys 281, 0 Jul 14 08:52 /devices/pseudo/dump@0:dump

So, how I can make either that dumpadm runs BEFORE rsyslog or rsyslog
AFTER dumpadm?

Any ideas?

With best regards.

Hi. Try to look at syslog dependencies. It seems some of them should be
added to rsyslog.

Hi Alexander,

look like that was problem (attached modified version here - changes
merged from /lib/svc/manifest/system/system-log.xml - only dependency
sections):

$ pfexec svccfg validate manifest-rsyslog.xml
[no error]
$ pfexec svccfg import manifest-rsyslog.xml

$ pfexec svcadm refresh rsyslog
$ pfexec svcadm restart rsyslog

[ Jul 14 12:57:38 Executing start method (/lib/svc/method/rsyslog). ]
[ Jul 14 12:57:38 Method start exited with status 0. ]

Verifying changes:
$ pfexec svccfg export system/system-log

Will wait until next reboot, for final confirmation.

Thank you for tip.
