Do you mean the Blueprint desktop theme, or are you talking about
something else? If so, you can download that here:

The tarball includes the source for the gtk theme engine, which you'll
need to build yourself if you want the full effect.

There's no practical reason we couldn't make Blueprint available as an
optional OpenSolaris install from pkg.opensolaris.org, but since the
style and colours reflect an older era of Sun branding, it's probably
a marketing call really. (Even if they don't want to, AFAIK the
licensing would allow anybody else to submit it to /contrib via Source
Juicer, if they wanted to... but don't quote me on that, I haven't
checked.)

Can anyone tell me where this could be downloaded from? It's just a more
professional appearance... Then again, I don't think CDE should ever have been
deprecated and should have been continued at least as a more minimalistic
window-management option (just like some Linux distributions come with packages
for multiple window managers, and Sol 10 always let you choose between JDS or
CDE).

Java Desktop System is just a brand, it always has been GNOME with a Sun theme.

JDS is Gnome!

That's fine of course, but it would still be useful if you could tell
us what it is specifically that you don't like. The more feedback we
have, the better we can make OpenSolaris.

JDS and OpenSolaris are both GNOME desktops, it was just called JDS in
Solaris 10 for marketing purposes. So it only takes a couple of
minutes' customisation to make one look (very nearly) like the other.

Another option might be to download Sun's Solaris Express distro,
which will give you something that looks a lot more like JDS, but with
most of the newer technology that's in OpenSolaris:

Actually, I like the default Opensolaris desktop. But if you want something
other than Gnome, under Ubuntu I've used xfce, and like it. (I don't much like
Ubuntu's default look.) I see that they have a binary for Solaris 10.

Thanks for the reply,

On the the Solaris Distribution from Sun.com you of course have a choice of
either the Java Desktop System or CDE.

Well I realize that you have stopped developing CDE (which is a shame) but the
GNOME desktop is nothing like Java Desktop System on Solaris 10? Is it possible
to have this desktop version on Open Solaris.

Perhaps i'm being over picky on something trivial but its just that I hate
GNOME, it reminds me of Linux. Are you saying that this is the future of the
Java Desktop System?

Thanks again

The Java Desktop is Gnome 2.6 with the "Blueprint" theme chosen.

JDS *is* GNOME. Are you just looking for the different panel layout
or something else?
