[opensuse] KDE4- where system:/ media:/ sysinfo:/ ???

2008-01-25 Thread Andrei Verovski (aka MacGuru)
Hi !

I have just installed KDE4, basically works fine, but I see 2 problems.

1) Special URLs like system:/, media:/, sysinfo:/.do not work anymore

May be I have missed to install something, or these URLs are not yet supported
in KDE4 ?

2) It is impossible to use any other icon theme exept Oxygen and KDE Classic.
Does it mean icon themes have to be rearranged in order to support KDE4?

Re: [opensuse] libglx.so: undefined symbol: _nv000069gl

2008-01-19 Thread Andrei Verovski (aka MacGuru)
Hi, Chris,

I had the same problem in the past. Would you please tell us how you have
solved this problem?

I solved this by means by installing original nvidia rpms, but I do not think
it is really good solution since the cause of this problem is unknown.

Suddenly, from Sunday afternoon, I'm not getting 3D accelleration from my
nvidia card even though it is installed and enabled. In the Xorg.0.log I'm
 seeing the following

 (II) LoadModule: glx
 (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/updates/extensions//libglx.so
 dlopen: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/updates/extensions//libglx.so: undefined
symbol: _nv69gl (EE) Failed to load
 /usr/lib/xorg/modules/updates/extensions//libglx.so (II) UnloadModule:
 glx
(EE) Failed to load module glx (loader failed, 7)

I have tried reinstalling x11-video-nvidia and nvidia-gfx-kmp-default but
it doesn't seemed to have helped. Has anyone else seen this?

 Many thanks,
 Chris R.

2) If I am need kernel for router/firewall (which also handles VoIP), is this

mount -t usbfs none /proc/bus/usb

However, this solution has an annoying side effect - it is not possible to
unmount any mounted volume with KDE media manager - error message says bla

Is it somehow possible to solve this problem?

[opensuse] USB Problem - WinXP under VMware Player

Hi !

I have WinXP running under VMware Player 6 (with all USB options enabled,
VMware tools installed, and USB bus seen in WinXP guest), under SuSE 10.2.

M/b is MSI with Intel 965 chipset and Core 2 Duo CPU.

And now the problem: no matter what I have tried, I am was unable to get
pocket PC working with ActiveSync. The device is simply not seen anywhere and
anyhow.

So, I have connected iPod, and the symptom is the same - it is not been
recognized at all by WinXP guest. Linux host recognizes it, but I am always
instructed not to mount the iPod in KDE.

Any idea what can be wrong? How I can disable USB hotplug in Linux host?

Re: [opensuse] KVM / QEMU Bridged Networking Seup - Help Please

2007-09-06 Thread Andrei Verovski (aka MacGuru)
Hi All,

Thanks for suggestion ! Of course, I have tried
http://en.opensuse.org/Qemu_networking

bridged setup for KVM/QEMU. Unfortunately, for me it did not work.

I have 2 net cards, one external and one internal IP (both static), firewalled
with Shorewall.

However (from the article):

 IPADDR='0.0.0.0'
 BOOTPROTO='static'

So DHCP is disabled on the primary network interface, because DHCP is now
run on the bridge. Create a new file called
 /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-br0 or copy
/etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg.template and adjust to have following
 contents:

 STARTMODE=auto
 IFPLUGD_PRIORITY=
 BOOTPROTO=dhcp
 BRIDGE='yes'
 BRIDGE_PORTS='eth0'
 BRIDGE_AGEINGTIME=
 BRIDGE_FORWARDDELAY=
 BRIDGE_HELLOTIME=
 BRIDGE_MAXAGE=
 BRIDGE_PATHCOSTS=
 BRIDGE_PORTPRIORITIES=
 BRIDGE_PRIORITY=
 BRIDGE_STP=

First of all, I am already have static IP on net card, and even if I do as
said in the article, I am always get no DHCP address (no matter of timeout
setup) even if I have dhcp server running on that machine.

[opensuse] SuSE 10.2/2.6.22 XEN kernel nVidia 100.11.14 Driver

2007-09-05 Thread Andrei Verovski (aka MacGuru)
Hi !

Is there nVidia kernel module for 2.6.22 XEN kernel? At first, I have tried to
compile it myself with nvidia original package, but process fails with
message no corresponding kernel sources found, even if I
specify --kernel-source-path=. Yes, I did make cloneconig and make
prepare after rebooting into xen kernel.

Quite strange since for default kernel everything went smoothly.

Then, I took nvidia-gfx-100.14.11-jen9.src.rpm and tried to rebuild nvidia
kernel modules for all flavors.

At first, there is a typo in spec file:
rpmbuild -ba nvidia-gfx.spec
error: line 46: Dependency tokens must begin with alpha-numeric, '_' or '/':
BuildRequires: % kernel_module_package_buildreq

I simply commented line 46 and everything went fine.

However, after all, there still no nvidia kernel modules built for xen kernel.

Anyone can explain what went wrong?

Thanks in advance.

IIRC nvidia crapola will not compile with xen, hence it is disabled
 in the line %suse_kernel_module_package.

[opensuse] XEN Help Please

2007-09-01 Thread Andrei Verovski (aka MacGuru)
Hi !

I am in desperate need of Asterisk 1.4 and freePBX 2.3. Unfortunately, freePBX
requires Apache to be run as user/group asterisk, what makes current server
incompatible with any other web applications.

The simplest solution seems to be to run Trixbox (preinstalled appliance of
Asterisk, freePBX, CentOS 5, and some other utilities), straight on my SuSE
10.2 box under XEN. Trixbox comes as CentOS 5 based bootable CD to be
installed on hard drive. I have Core2 Duo and low server load so
virtualization penalty is really small.

The question is - how to virtualize Trixbox under SuSE 10.2/XEN?

Of course, I could install another PC dedicated exclusively for Trixbox, but
there are already too much of this stuff, too combersome to manage.

Thanks in advance for any suggestion(s).

that I am going to use Trixbox telephony server under virtualization.

If KVM crashes, someone of my impatient colleagues may crash something heavy

[opensuse] Apache config question

2007-08-30 Thread Andrei Verovski (aka MacGuru)
Hi !

I am trying to install freePBX admin utility for Asterisk 1.4 (on SuSE 10.2).
Installation instruction says this:

httpd (Apache) configuration
- Edit /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf (or /etc/apache2/apache2.conf) so that:
User asterisk
Group asterisk

If I add this, how this will affect other HTML dirs? Does this mean that
Apache will run as user asterisk?

freePBX keeps its php scripts under usergroup called asterisk.
Additionally, there is an additional instruction

Chown the PHP session.save_path directory:
- chown asterisk /var/lib/php/session

I am really in doubt that freePBX is compatible with normal Apache
installation.

Thanks in advance for any suggestion(s).

will need the nvidia binary driver to get this to work. Or maybe a newer

install the nvidia driver. See http://en.opensuse.org/NVIDIA for info on
installing the nvidia binary driver. It is easy.

[opensuse] Video Card in 2nd PCIe Slot Problem

2007-07-31 Thread Andrei Verovski (aka MacGuru)
Hi,

I have video card installed in 2nd PCIe slot (MSI nVidia 8600GT video card has
very large fan-less radiator and cannot be installed on the first PCIe slot
because of another large heatsink on Gigabyte P35 m/b).

lspci lists this video card, but whenever I launch sax2, it do not recognizes
nVidia (even with m 0=nvidia) and works in framebuffer mode only.

Anyone can suggest how to overcome this issue?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks a lot for suggestion. Unfortunately, there is only 1 lib, and

[opensuse] How to Block Public Proxies

2007-06-02 Thread Andrei Verovski (aka MacGuru)
Hi !

We have Squid installed as transparent proxy, and it blocks certain web sites.
However, I we have seen some users use public proxies like ninjaproxy in
order to visit these sites.

Is there any way to block public proxies along with those annoying sites?

Thanks in advance for any suggestion(s)

[opensuse] Bluetooth Mobile Phone Connectivity

2007-02-26 Thread Andrei Verovski (aka MacGuru)
Hi,

Anyone have been able to use mobile phone with bluetooth (i.e. Nokia 6310) on
SuSE 10.2? Its seems like bluetooth services are running, but there is
nowhere to connect to mobile phone.

The questions are:

1) How to pair KDE bluetooth services with mobile phone? I have several
dialogs in KBluetooth D, one of them seem to scrambled because of software
bug, and I was not able to find something like Discover Connect.

2) Is there any program to send/manage SMS/MMS and address book that really
works?

Thanks in advance for any suggestion(s).

Re: [opensuse] Auto-mount bug or glitch (10.2)

Yes, I can mount USB storage manually as root. Its USB 1, but I do not think
it should be a problem

 Hi !

After upgrade from 10.1 to 10.2 I've got an annoying bug (or glitch) - I am
unable to auto-mount USB storage devices.

 hal-storage-removable-mount-all-options refused uid 1000

I have included me (uid 1000) to groups haldaemon, disk and cdrom.
What else should be done to get rid of this problem?

Thanks in advance for any suggestion(s).

 [pruned]

I bought the VX2025WM 2 days ago and it is running very, very well,
 thank you on 10.1.

And it is running at the native resolution of 1680x1050.

Start sax2 and go to monitor change where you select the LCD-- default
option -- which is equivalent to VESA-- default -- and there you will
find the only entry of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Select this and the
 Viewsonic will work like magic.

(BTW, the monitor is recognised automatically in 10.2 RC1.)

A point: you will need to drop the gamma for the monitor (Personal
SettingsDisplayGamma) from the 1.0 down to whatever level you feel
comfortable with -- I went down to 0.70 gamma -- because the screen is
*too* bright :-( . Also, select sRGB colour rather than the default
6500K to get proper colours. Finally, use the digital connection to
get better picture but bear in mind that with digital connection you
lose 2 monitor controls because they are not needed (read the User
 Manual on disc).
