Great, so, please add your workaround to the wiki (as a second or

Hey Dave,

Dis you marked your VM to enable USB support? Also, did you tried
different usb ports? Do you have another usb device that you could
test and see if the usb is working? If you plug iPod does it show the
new hardware detected?

I really don't know what happened there, VBox always worked for my
external harddisks and mp3 players.

If this does not work I would suggest you find someone with a win box
and ask to use iTunes for a moment.

[opensuse] cann't find -lcurses when compiling

2007-12-17 Thread Gabriel Moreno
Hello

I am trying to make a package that needs lcurses (I already installed
the dev package)

This is what happens with ldconfig

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~> /sbin/ldconfig -p | grep curs
libncursesw.so.5 (libc6,x86-64) => /lib64/libncursesw.so.5
libncursesw.so.5 (libc6) => /lib/libncursesw.so.5
libncursesw.so (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib64/libncursesw.so
libncursesw.so (libc6) => /usr/lib/libncursesw.so
libncurses.so.5 (libc6,x86-64) => /lib64/libncurses.so.5
libncurses.so.5 (libc6) => /lib/libncurses.so.5
libncurses.so (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib64/libncurses.so
libncurses.so (libc6) => /usr/lib/libncurses.so
libXcursor.so.1 (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib64/libXcursor.so.1
libXcursor.so.1 (libc6) => /usr/lib/libXcursor.so.1

i guess it has something to do with the symbolic link but I am not
sure. I am not sure either if I have to link it myself or it should be
automatically linked with the ncurses-devel package.

Any suggestions or ideas pointing me in the right direction will be
very appreciated.

Happy Holidays

Sorry, remount /home with another name so you will be able to copy the
data to a directory named /home on your root partition.

This is the safest way, I don't recommend doing it on a multi-user mode

You should first go to init 1 (single user), unmount /home, move the
data to the new location, modify fstab with the new settings (in this
case simply remove the settings for /home) and then go back to init 5.

Thats all.

Re: [opensuse] K3B

2007-05-29 Thread Gabriel .

2007/5/29, zoran <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:

Hello,

I recently downloaded from internet a live concert that would like to burn on
DVD and play it on stand alone DVD player connected to my TV.
Downloaded map containes following files:

VIDEO_TS.BUP
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VIDEO_TS.VOB

VTS_01.BUP
VTS_01.IFO
VTS_01.VOB

VTS_01_0.VOB
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_01_3.VOB
VTS_01_4.VOB
VTS_01_5.VOB

Question is in which order I should burn them to DVD, I tried from K3B option
burn video DVD, but I failed twice. K3B does copy files to DVD with success
but then it can not be played on stand alone DVD-player.
Now I'm stuck ... does anyone has any suggestions?

Thanks,
Zoran

All files must be in the folder VIDEO_TS.
If it doesn't work for you, then you should try to play it with
mplayer before burn it. Some file could be corrupted.

Does the burned DVD play on your computer ?

[opensuse] SLAB menu enhancement

2007-04-27 Thread Gabriel .

I was thinking that SLAB menu would be more useful by adding the
possibility of customize it.
Maybe letting the user change the groups of the application browser,
or drag applications to other group, etc.

Also theres no "Run command" anymore. What about adding a text box so
you can run a command by typing on it.

Nowadays this menu it's not really comfortable to use.

Any chance?

Are you the list god? I do not think it is trash, I did not find it offensive.
Quite the contrary, I enjoyed it. Should something be banned because it
offends a single person? I think not but, then, I am a Texan and not
as cosmopolitan or as sophisticated as you, just 'misogynistic'.

So far, the official count is 2 for, 1 against. In my part of the world,
the majority rules. Except when they supported Gore.

I didn't find it offensive.
What has to do this with openSuSE or even with Linux?

[opensuse] SLES9 ethtool options

2007-02-23 Thread Gabriel O'Brien

Hi there,

Can anybody point me at a document which clarifies the proper method of
passing ethtool options to the network init scripts in SLES9? From what
I can tell setting either the SLES10/OpenSUSE format 'ETHTOOL_OPTIONS'
or the RedHat format 'ETHTOOL_OPTS' variables in
/etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth-id- will not work.  Surely
this must be possible.

I can of course put a hack of some sort into if-up.d but I'd like to
know what the proper method is since I need to roll this out to a number
of servers. For the record I want to pass the equivalent of 'ethtool -s
ethN autoneg off speed 100 duplex full' to the interface due to problems
 with some switches. Any help is appreciated!

cheers,
Gabriel

[opensuse] Firmware upgrade of Prism2 wireless adapter

2007-01-28 Thread Gabriel - EA6VQ
I'm using SuSE 10.2 and I want to update the firmware of a wireless card
with the Prism2 (2.5) chipset. I have tested many things but I still can't
understand why it's not working, so I would appreciate very much any help
from the experts.

To update de firmware I use the command "prism2_srec -v -f wlan2
pk010101.hex sf010704.hex" but it returns an error saying that I have to
define PRISM2_DOWNLOAD_SUPPORT in driver/module/hostap_config.h

I understand that the hostap drivers are part of the 2.6.18 kernel, so I
have installed the kernel sources and I have verified that the DEFINE of
both PRISM2_DOWNLOAD_SUPPORT and PRISM2_NON_VOLATILE_DOWNLOAD are not
commented, in the hostap_config.h that is located in
/usr/src/linux/drivers/net/wireless/hostap.

Even so, I have compiled the kernel and restarted with the new kernel, but
the prism2_srec is still returning the same error. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for any possible suggestion.

about firefox in my 10.2 yields:
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686 (x86_64); en-US; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061023
SUSE/2.0-30 Firefox/2.0

The updater wants to install update version 2418-0 (mozilla security update
1.5.0.9 (2.0.0.1 for opensuse 10.2!!), also update version2.0.0.1-0.1.

i tried the update and the silly thing started crashing like crazy. Had to
remove it and somehow reinstall version 2.0-30. That seems confusing to me.
the updater does see the installed version as 2.0-30, shouldn't that be seen
as the latest? how does the version numbering go?

Have not looked at that specific model, but did purchase several Dells
in last couple months.

If you get a choice up upgrades:
  get intel wireless - not dell wirelss = broadcom
  get either intel or Nvidia graphics -
   run away from ATI like your hair is on fire

Everything else works just fine.

Well, you already run their next update kernel on 10.1,

The problem is, there is only the diver 1.0.8762, NVidia also provides
another driver line for older Hardware that's no longer supported by
the mainstream line. This "legacy" driver is currently available as
1.0-7182 at the moment and supports GPUs >= TNT.

Ok, guys thanks and I apologize for all the noise, it was my error not
ATI's or SuSE's. Seems in setting up the mirror, I added a space in
the url that threw things off. Grief, it's like programming in Cobol
with those periods!  ;-)

Anyway, thanks for putting up with my whining & rants, but this one was
my bad, it works excellent with KYum/YUM as it does with Yast!

Looks like Kyum/yum try to list files in that repo. This is
inhibited by the ati web server.
However, direct access to files works. So one can get e.g.
http://www2.ati.com/suse/repodata/repomd.xml
and download other repo files mentioned in repomd.xml.
