me too!
i have exactly the same problem.

and i dind't find anything in the forum or anywhere else on
http://compiz.org/

CyberOrg?
is there anything you could tell us about that?

I used to be able to have a choice of kde and then when kde was up replacing
it with compiz. --replace kwin again locks solid. now I always get
 compiz/emerald.

i do it this way:
in /usr/share/xsessions i have (beside the original-files for kde and
gnome) a seperate xsession-file for compiz and one for beryl.

so every time, i am at the login-screen, i am able to change the type of
session i want to use.
i select kde, or kde with beryl or kde with compiz.
then i log in, and started will be that compositing-manager i selected.
very easy.
very smooth.

I know this is early days but just wondered if anyone else was going down the
 same path as me.

i hope this freezing after logout bug is fixed soon, because with this
compiz-git is unusable for me.

What repository have you installed from?
cyberorg

 How are you running it?
compiz --replace ccp

 How was it
 installed?
yast

Currently I used Beryl w/ XGL and it runs great for me.

beryl isn't under development anymore

 . I've
used Compiz - Fusion on Ubuntu with native Nvidia drivers and it was jumpy
and not as smooth as Beryl w/ XGL..

xgl slows stuff down here. Thats why I switched to nvidia

 How are you running compiz?
compiz --replace ccp

 With emerald?

You can use emerald

No.

or-a-test-ride/

Those instructions don't work. Please read the user comments at the bottom of
your page. I clicked compiz-git-all in yast and the rest of the packages
pulled in themselves. Is that correct?

 Have fun!

Thanks for the tips. Everything works now. Is this project still under
development? I mean the shift plugin is superb. It would be a pity to drop it
now.

Cheers and thanks for the tips
Steve.

Hi
cyberorg just gave a solution to this in the last post in the thread.

My own workaround goes like this:

user still in compiz session
crtl+alt+F1
root logs in
init 3
init 5
user starts new graphical session

I know it's a pain but I think that if we don't report this stuff it makes it
more difficult for the guys at cyberorg to debug and fix it.

Then instruction 4 from this:

http://en.opensuse.org/Beryl#Beryl_with_nVidia_drivers_-_no_Xgl.2FAIGLX

Then:

ctrl+alt+backspace

Then installed compiz-git-all via yast

Then removed both xgl packages using yast

Then:

ctrl+alt+backspace again

Then did instruction 4 from here:

Fun isn't it;-)

Now it does :-) But doesn't it amount to the same as installing compiz-git-all
via yast having added the cyberorg repository?

I think the link should be:
http://dev.beryl-project.org/~cyberorg/suse/38/

as:
http://dev.beryl-project.org/~cyberorg/suse/38/want-to-take-compiz-fusion-for-a-test-ride/
gives a 404 error

Hi everyone

I have the latest compiz-git stuff up without xgl under nvidia. It really is
getting stable. Stunning.

Two small problems: logging out freezes to the point of having to reboot.
Under xgl it logged out smoothly.

it with compiz. --replace kwin again locks solid. now I always get
compiz/emerald.
