[openthinclient-user] Openthinclient OS kernel compilation

2013-07-02 Thread Miguel Amez
Hi all,

I'm experiencing some troubles starting openthinclient OS with pxe on an
x86 PC.
It appears the Openthinclient OS' loading screen, but it hangs after
/scripts/nts-top.

Is there any way for re-compiling kernel with missing drivers for my pc?

I can colaborate on this, because we are working on a new project and can
contribute compiling kernel and initrd for more hardware, just to make
openthinclient more hardware-friendly.

Regards,
Miguel Amez

Hi Jason,

It seems like the manager is not up and running. Did you checked if the
service is up and running? maybe a netstat -ano helps there too, just to
know if the server is listening on the socket...

pxe boot?
It's extrange that the login page shows and the AD fails... Are you using
openthinclient realm or you are using a MS one?

Hi,

Which version of openthinclient are you using? 0.45 or something like that?
Is your server-side virtualized?
What about your LDAP? is it under windows or under the openthinclient
appliance?

Re: [openthinclient-user] Unable to Connect to Realm

2013-07-11 Thread Miguel Amez
Hi,

That configuration is better if you what to migrate, of course, because
your openthiclient apliance doesn't depend on Windows AD. Good news for you.
The best solution, If you don't know details about the inherited
infraestructure, is allways migrating to 1.0 version.
The problem are the LDAP users of the openthinclient: you will need to make
a backup of the LDAP and then restore that backup on the openthinclient
infraestructure again when you upgrade to 1.0 version.
Tell me, do you have any kind of specific package developed for
openthinclient? If the answer is affirmative, you will need to backup the
openthinclient packages too, just to be able to install them on your new
server.
The virtual server for the openthinclient appliance is inside windows 2008
server? under a vmware workstation? this is completly not recomended!
VSphere would be a great solution instead.

Miguel

Re: [openthinclient-user] Unable to Connect to Realm

2013-07-11 Thread Miguel Amez
Hi again Jason,

As I can guess, you have the windows version installed. The server is java,
so there won't be any problem here.

Just to be sure that the manager is running: open a command line in windows
2008 and type this command: netstat -ano and check if some process is
attached to port 8080.
If this is correct, then open a browser and enter this url:
http://localhost:8080 and copy here what appears there.

downloading virtual appliance is the best option, of course, because it has
all the software installed there inside an ubuntu distro. We have this
installation and the configuration is minimal to have it running, but
firstly you need to enter to the LDAP just to be sure that it doesn't have
any special configuration for your company and also you will need to
download user information for your environment (but maybe you could
re-create this in the new environment). You will also need to know which
are the dhcp server configurations for your environment, just to know if
there are special "server-next" configurations.

Regards,
Miguel

Hi Jason,

Great work! You are welcome.
Just for you to know: If you have a server where you can deploy a vmware
vsphere server to install the openthinclient virtual apliance, it could be
interesting for you that the vsphere 5.1 is completly free till 32 GB of
RAM. This could be great for you. We have some of them in production
environment and work really good.

Hi chris,

It is a hardware issue.
Which openthinclient are you using? 1.0 appliance maybe?
Which hardware thin clients are you using? If they are not on the
openthinclient hardware compatibility page, I think you will need to
re-compile kernel of the otc client and adding new kernel modules for your
special hardware.

Hope this helps.

2013-07-17 Thread Miguel Amez
Hi chris,

hehe! welcome to linux world!
I've had the same problem in our Academy here in Spain, so we had to
re-compile the otc kernel for the purpose of your hardware or getting a
hardware compatible with the version of the otc compiled in appliance 1.0.
This is an investment I've made by myself, because otc guys don't answer so
much to the mailing list.

Re-compiling ubuntu's distros isn't so difficult, there is a lot of
information about that over the internet. I could give you some links to
that info.

The easiest solution is testing all your park with otc and see which
hardware is supported and which one no. if, for example, the 90% is
compatible and the rest no, just think about buying the resting 10%.

Miguel

Hi mick,

which version of server do you have? virtual appliance, ubuntu instalation
or windows one?

If you have virtual appliance, then you can search it on the server machine
(locate pxelinux). I don't have experience with windows' installations.

Miguel.

then search tftp folder on the openthinclient folder.

as it is ubuntu, run:

2013-08-05 Thread Miguel Amez
Hi mick,

I dont understand very well your question... Why would you want to access yout
tftp server files from a tftp client? Maybe you are trying to test if the tftp
service is up and running?

I thought you wanted to change the pxelinux.0 file, in order to support more
different hardware.

Clear this point, please.

Hi Taras,

Details of your configuration are not really clear at all...
Can you please give hardware and software specifications of your network?
(for example firewall rules, network topology, subnets, if you have vlans
in your configuration, etc.)

It is very dificult to understand the nature of your problem if you don't
give more information.

Re: [openthinclient-user] Issues booting from different subnet."Running /scripts/init-bottom..."

2013-08-29 Thread Miguel Amez
Hi Taras,

I think I've found your problem: You said that you have 2 VLANs, 1 for the
server and 1 for the clients, and you also said that your firewall has the
correct rules for connecting each VLAN with the other...

Do you have those rules in iptables? Are you completly sure that you can
reach a computer in VLAN2 from a computer in VLAN1 and viceversa? I think
that the problem is on the firewall's rules and routes: you said that you
have your rules right, but... Did you check your firewall routes?

One more thing: I don't know if you really need 2 VLANs on your real
scenario, but if you can fully reach computers in VLAN2 from computers in
VLAN1 and viceversa... Which is the sense of separating them in VLANs? This
way you will have encription over the network layer, so slower connection,
more dificult-to-manage network infraestructures, complicated rules on
firewall, ... Why don't you define a bigger LAN with a suitable mask for
this scenario? Maybe a big problem have a small solution on the very
beginning approach... Think about it.

But if you really need VLANs, please check connectivity between VLANs with
pxe, NFS, NTFS and CIFS ports firstly.

Regards,

Re: [openthinclient-user] Issues booting from differentsubnet."Running /scripts/init-bottom..."

2013-09-04 Thread Miguel Amez
Hi Taras,

I will try to be somekind graphic with the firewall rules: Does your router
know how to reach one of the vlans in one of your remote installations, for
example, in England? Of course no! You will need rules in your firewall
that redirect some ports from one VLAN to the other, not just having
forwarding bit activated on ubuntu's kernel!

There are several ways of doing this. One of them is marking packets with
mangle rules on firewall. I do that with one of my firewalls to re-direct
output bandwidth on VoIP server through one of our internet PPPoE providers.

Another solution is forwarding PXE ports and NFS ports in firewall from
clients VLAN to server VLAN, but I think you will have troubles this way,
because PXE discover protocol uses MAC-level broadcasting, so I think that
ip forwarding won't be enough...

Hope this helps,
Miguel

2013-09-05 Thread Miguel Amez
Hi Taras,

It seems to be a problem with UDP ports (maybe)

Can you paste your iptables configuration?

Take a look at this article:
https://access.redhat.com/site/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/6/html/Storage_Administration_Guide/s2-nfs-nfs-firewall-config.htmland
be sure that all these UDP and TCP ports are opened, because it seems
like nfs server is not found and thus, the clients cannot mount nfs remote
folder.

Hope this helps,
Miguel

Re: [openthinclient-user] Issues booting from differentsubnet."Running /scripts/init-bottom..."

2013-09-05 Thread Miguel Amez
Hi Taras,

I'm completly sure thar the problem is in your firewall. Check one thing:
Connect one Ubuntu or Debian machine on your client network and try to
mount OTC's NFS shared folder on your ubuntu/debian testing machine. You
will see that it will fail connecting to NFS, because something on your
firewall is wrong! If you do this test, you will also have the client logs
in your testing machine, that could give you more information about your
problem.

Hope this helps,
Miguel

Hi Andreas,

This has nothing to do with OTC, this is a missconfiguration in your LDAP
security permissions. You can Grant that permission by GPOs.

Hope this helps.

Re: [openthinclient-user] RDP with Networkprinter

2013-10-15 Thread Miguel Amez
I am a little bit confused with your explanation... What can I make clear
in your words is that you have a classroom for your Thin Clients that
connects by RDP to your Terminal Server. Do you use the same DC user for
this classroom as for the rest of your installation? If not, you can add
permissions for printing to an specific user that can only be used on this
room.
Does your RDP installed on your OTC automatically connect to your terminal
server with an specific user and password via a bash script?

Regards,
Miguel
