Sounds good, and count me in too.

Let's kick it off on 08/16 at technical community meeting time.

Thank you

Thanks for all the interests... Please continue to let us know if you can
participate or someone in your project can. We clearly want representation from
container4nfv, installers that are producing k8s, edge cloud, data path,
testing projects that are interested in cloud native testing ... and all of you
really.

I'd propose that we use Bin's meeting slot for a kickoff community meeting as a
start and level setting, and choose how we want to meet in future. I'm taking
time off myself next week, but August 16 works for me.

Bin, would it be OK that we take the whole hour for August 16?
And does that time work for everyone?

Regards
Wenjing

Subject: [opnfv-tech-discuss] The OPNFV Cloud Native working group proposal is
being discussed in the TSC

I would like to give all in the OPNFV community a shout-out that we're
discussing a Cloud Native focused working group in the last two TSC calls.
Brian Skerry, Rossella and myself have put a list of recommendations together
since we started a couple of months ago. The draft proposal and detailed
background material can be found in this wiki page:
https://wiki.opnfv.org/display/meetings/Cloud+Native

We'd very much appreciate your feedback and, more importantly, interests in
participating its work. I don't know if I should emphasize again the importance
of cloud native to OPNFV's mission and our relevance in the industry, but

Re: [opnfv-tech-discuss] [apex][auto] Apex on LaaS x86 server

2018-08-01 Thread Gerard Damm

Hi,

I wanted to confirm the procedure, but got an error again, and this time the
opnfv-clean command
did not do the trick: it actually also issued an error (please see details
below).

However, I re-run the installation after exploring post-install scripts
(Install Docker, Install Python) from Mark:
https://wiki.opnfv.org/display/storperf/LaaS+Setup+For+Development#LaaSSetupForDevelopment-InstallOPNFVApex

The second opnfv-deploy attempt failed again, but this time opnfv-clean worked,
and a 3rd installation attempt worked.

So I'm thinking there must be some missing/undocumented additional required
setup for Apex (Docker ? Python ?), which may or may not happen incidentally
when doing other things, but which is revealed by running the procedure for the
first time on a brand new server (and maybe is not revealed on daily CI runs on
already configured servers).

Best regards,
Gerard

[opnfv-tech-discuss] [OPNFV Helpdesk #59066] [Yardstick] contributor request

2018-08-01 Thread Trevor Bramwell via RT
Hi Myron,

I have sent you an invite to join the Yardstick contributors group.

This will prompt you to create a Linux Foundation account if you don't
already have one. Please choose a username without spaces or special
characters as Gerrit requires a valid unix username.

You will also need to sign the individual IP Policy[1] and upload
an SSH public key in Gerrit[2] before you can upload code. If you
aren't already familiar with Gerrit, we have compiled a guide[3]
for new users.

Don't hesitate to contact us at helpd...@opnfv.org if you run into any issues.

Welcome to OPNFV and thanks for contributing to Yardstick!

Jenkins Security Upgrade : Scheduled

Scheduled Start: Jul 25, 2018, 22:00 UTC
Scheduled End: Jul 25, 2018, 23:00 UTC

The Jenkins project recent announced a high severity security vulnerability.
In order to ensure the security of Jenkins we will be upgrading to the newest
version.

Jenkins will be put into shutdown mode an hour and a half before the
upgrade in order for jobs to have time to complete. Any jobs not
finished in this time will be aborted and retriggered after the
upgrade.

Expected downtime is < 10 minutes while Jenkins is restarted.

If you think we need to reschedule or have any questions or comments,
please reach out at helpd...@opnfv.org.

I don't know if I should emphasize again the importance
of cloud native to OPNFV's mission and our relevance in the industry, but I
believe that OPNFV has a good opportunity to make an impactful contribution.
There are a lot of projects working on many aspects of cloud native open source
technologies, what's lacking is a common initiative towards common goals:
identifying needs/gaps, articulating these goals, planning them, coordinating
different aspects for maximum effect, and sharing training and messaging etc.

Here is a list of proposed work items so far for the new WG:

  * Document current state of various ongoing efforts in OPNFV, where we want
to go/contribute (OPNFV vision wrt cloud native), and identify gaps.
  * Establish a cloud native CD toolchain and process
  * Drive commonalities among OPNFV k8s scenarios. Produce common Kubernetes
scenarios (e.g. two) with long-live community environment
  * Work with projects (initially select a few) to help them
  *   produce cloud native artifacts
  * adopt cloud native tools and practices
  * adapt/expand to support cloud native environments
  * Establish robust connection and engagement with upstream CNCF, ONAP/LFN,
edge and other communities
  * Support multi-clouds based on k8s: e.g. ONAP, edge, public clouds
  * Drive longer term efforts: e.g. common API, service mesh, 'middle-box'
data path, acceleration, edge support, etc.
  * Produce user oriented and developer oriented training material

Discussions/feedback welcomed. Thanks.

Regards
Wenjing

Re: [opnfv-tech-discuss] [compass4nfv][auto] Compass4nfv on LaaS x86 server

2018-08-01 Thread Gerard Damm
Hi,

Thanks Martin and Harry for your feedback !

On hpe15, the log file doesn't end with the string "compass deploy success", so
the process may not have completed correctly.
When you reach the point of "reboot_hosts do nothing", it takes quite a while
(30-60 minutes ?) to get to the conclusion.
Is it possible you stopped the process before it finished ?

Also, I didn't see the setting of "VIRT_NUMBER" in the "deploy.sh" file in
"/home/opnfv/compass4nfv", but then again it's possible you changed it
afterwards.

One directory up ("/home/opnfv"), the file "deply.sh.log" ends in
"launch_compass failed".

Out of curiosity, I tried option 1 on hpe15 (see script in ~/auto) (so: master
branch, build+deploy, NOHA scenario, VIRT_NUMBER=2).
This one failed with the "get_installing_progress" error.
You can check the logs in /opt/opnfv-compass/compass4nfv, and in ~/auto).

Best regards,
Gerard

Hi Gerard,

I tried to follow your installation procedure (i.e. point 1 below) at HPE15
with the only difference, i.e. VIRT_NUMBER=1. I've not observed the same error
as you, but some (probably not fatal) assertion error (search log for
client.py). Anyhow the installation process seemed to finish somehow. I plan to
have a more detailed look at the machine tomorrow. Feel free to have a look
yourself, I'll forward you appropriate credentials. The installation log
(output of deploy.sh) is available at /home/opnfv/compass4nfv/deploy.log

Have a nice day,

Martin

Thanks for pointing out that other possible issue.

The instructions I use as a reference:

https://docs.opnfv.org/en/latest/submodules/compass4nfv/docs/release/installation/index.html

My spelled out version/script for these instructions (case of virtual
deployment on Ubuntu):

https://wiki.opnfv.org/display/AUTO/Script%3A+Compass4nfv

I did 3 more attempts on hpe32, and unfortunately they also failed:

1) tarball 6.2, stable/fraser branch, noha scenario, set VIRT_NUMBER to 5,
deploy.sh

2) quickstart.sh (i.e. in master branch, build.sh, ha scenario, deploy.sh)

3) master branch, build.sh, noha scenario, set VIRT_NUMBER to 5, deploy.sh

I got twice with the get_ansible_print error, and once a
get_installing_progress error.

(details below)

At this point, probably the most efficient next step would be for you to try
yourself on a LaaS server,

write down exactly the sequence of commands you used, so as to find out the
missing commands.

Then I'll updates my notes, and the compass4nfv docs may also be updated.

Best regards,

Gerard

1) tarball 6.2, stable/fraser branch, noha scenario, set VIRT_NUMBER to 5,
deploy.sh

downloaded 6.2 tarball, checked out to stable/fraser, added these lines in

export VIRT_NUMBER=5

export VIRT_CPUS=4

export VIRT_MEM=16384

Let’s go for next week as we are planning to discuss it more tomorrow in the
test WG. Emma and Georg had started this up again following the plugfest and
I’d like to get more information about their thoughts.

Thanks!

Mark,

Great suggestion. I think it would be very valuable to discuss as part of the
broader technical community.

Do you want to present it tomorrow or next week? Either way is fine, and
whichever you are more comfortable with.

group again about coming up with an overall guide/strategy on how to integrate
the different testing projects. An idea is to see if a guide or script could
be produced that would pull the different tools together and make it easier for
the end user to run them. The example I can give is to have Barometer
measuring systems under test while Yardstick is running a performance test.
Right now that would require a fair amount of reading and work on the part of
the end user to pull these two together. Add to that the test results DB
container (if the user does not want to publically publish their results) and I
see that has a fairly high barrier to entry.

Is this something we want to take beyond the test WG and discuss as part of the
broader technical community?

Mark

2018-08-01 Thread Mark Beierl
Let’s go for next week as we are planning to discuss it more tomorrow in the
test WG. Emma and Georg had started this up again following the plugfest and
I’d like to get more information about their thoughts.

Thanks!

Mark,

Great suggestion. I think it would be very valuable to discuss as part of the
broader technical community.

Do you want to present it tomorrow or next week? Either way is fine, and
whichever you are more comfortable with.

Thanks
Bin

答复: [opnfv-tech-discuss] [compass4nfv][auto] Compass4nfv on LaaS x86 server

2018-08-01 Thread harry huang
Hi Gerard

Sorry that I may brought some confusion here: VIRT_NUMBER is set to 5 by
default and should be set to 2 explicitly when using noha scenario.
I will log in hpe32 to finish the deploy and update your steps on auto wiki.

Regards
Harry

主题: RE: [opnfv-tech-discuss] [compass4nfv][auto] Compass4nfv on LaaS x86 server

Thanks for pointing out that other possible issue.

The instructions I use as a reference:
https://docs.opnfv.org/en/latest/submodules/compass4nfv/docs/release/installation/index.html

My spelled out version/script for these instructions (case of virtual
deployment on Ubuntu):
https://wiki.opnfv.org/display/AUTO/Script%3A+Compass4nfv

I did 3 more attempts on hpe32, and unfortunately they also failed:

1) tarball 6.2, stable/fraser branch, noha scenario, set VIRT_NUMBER to 5,
deploy.sh
2) quickstart.sh (i.e. in master branch, build.sh, ha scenario, deploy.sh)
3) master branch, build.sh, noha scenario, set VIRT_NUMBER to 5, deploy.sh

I got twice with the get_ansible_print error, and once a
get_installing_progress error.
(details below)

At this point, probably the most efficient next step would be for you to try
yourself on a LaaS server,
write down exactly the sequence of commands you used, so as to find out the
missing commands.
Then I'll updates my notes, and the compass4nfv docs may also be updated.

Best regards,
Gerard

I don't know if I should emphasize again the importance
of cloud native to OPNFV's mission and our relevance in the industry, but I
believe that OPNFV has a good opportunity to make an impactful contribution.

  * Work with projects (initially select a few) to help them
  *   produce cloud native artifacts
  * adopt cloud native tools and practices
  * adapt/expand to support cloud native environments
  * Establish robust connection and engagement with upstream CNCF, ONAP/LFN,
edge and other communities
  * Support multi-clouds based on k8s: e.g. ONAP, edge, public clouds
  * Drive longer term efforts: e.g. common API, service mesh, 'middle-box'
data path, acceleration, edge support, etc.
  * Produce user oriented and developer oriented training material

Discussions/feedback welcomed. Thanks.

Regards
Wenjing

2018-08-01 Thread Klozik Martin
Hi Gerard,

I tried to follow your installation procedure (i.e. point 1 below) at HPE15
with the only difference, i.e. VIRT_NUMBER=1. I've not observed the same error
as you, but some (probably not fatal) assertion error (search log for
client.py). Anyhow the installation process seemed to finish somehow. I plan to
have a more detailed look at the machine tomorrow. Feel free to have a look
yourself, I'll forward you appropriate credentials. The installation log
(output of deploy.sh) is available at /home/opnfv/compass4nfv/deploy.log

Have a nice day,

Martin

Re: [opnfv-tech-discuss] [edge cloud] updating requirements for review

2018-08-01 Thread Gergely Csatari
Hi,

No worries.

Yes, you should create a new patch set to your original review
(https://gerrit.opnfv.org/gerrit/#/c/58959/).

If I see it correctly you did your modifications directly to the master branch,
so I guess all the different changes are in different directories.

To add your update to the original review you should:

  1. Go to the repo directory from where the original change was added (if you
donot have it anymore than go to a repo directory with an unmodified master
branch (or clone one down) and issue git review -d 58959)
  2. Add your updates there. You should not add the things in my change
(https://gerrit.opnfv.org/gerrit/#/c/59763/) I will merge these in once your
change is in the master.
  3. Add your files with git add.
  4. Commit git commit –amend
  5. Add to the reivew with git review
  6. You can simply abandon the two new changes
(https://gerrit.opnfv.org/gerrit/#/c/60451/ and
https://gerrit.opnfv.org/gerrit/#/c/60453/)

If it is not working I can add your changes from the two new changes to the
original one.

Gerg0

for review

Hello Gergely,

Sorry I didn't update the requirement document in time, cause I was quite buzy
last week. And thank you so much for your kind help on this document ;)

The newest version of requriements has been uploaded here:
https://gerrit.opnfv.org/gerrit/#/c/60453/

But I'm still having some problems with the git operations and need you help.

I think the new requirements doc should be uploaded as a new patch to the
original subject, instead of creating a new subject. But I don't know how to do
that. Could you please help me with this?

And I mistakenly committed and pushed the change twice, one of which is named
"sign-off-by: qihuiz..", and this one should be removed. I tried to revert
it, but it seems not working.

Could you please help me with these two problems?
Sorry for making you some extra work~~
Thank you again~~and look forward to your reply ~~

Best,
Qihui

Hello edge cloud team,

Sorry for the late update on the requirements document. It has already been
uploaded here for review: https://gerrit.opnfv.org/gerrit/#/c/60453/ .
Thank you so much for your patient~~

Hoping my uploading and git commit operations are correct, cause I'm still a
bit confused about this. If something is wrong, please feel free to correct me.
Thanks a lot~~

Qihui

Hi,

On the Requirements Document review
(https://gerrit.opnfv.org/gerrit/#/c/58959/): Qihui, if you have any questions
to my comments just post them to the review or send them to here. I’m happy to
discuss 😉
Also if you are too busy I can try to fix my comments if that is okay with you.
