RE: converting sybase stored procedure into oracle sp
I believe Oracle Migration Workbench will convert your Sybase (Transact-SQL) procedures to Oracle (PL/SQL). The tool is normally used to migrate an entire database, but I believe it gives you the opportunity to be very selective on which objects to migrate. RE: Oracle pricing ain't going down
I realized in my hasty response that I failed to complete my thought/question. My response should have been: IOT and clustered indexes are not comparable to each other. Are they? As you mention, by definition they do appear similar. I originally thought more about how they are used as it appears (from my experiences anyway) that clustered indexes are utilized more frequently in SQL Server/Sybase than IOTs in Oracle. I too am curious as to when it is an advantage or disadvantage to utilize an IOT. I read somewhere that IOTs are best suited for lookup tables. Tables with a large number of columns are not a very good IOT candidate. I'm just not experienced enough in understanding why that is. -Original Message- Sent: Friday, October 24, 2003 7:14 PM To: Multiple recipients of list ORACLE-L Really? I'm curious, because after reading up on Index-Organized Tables, they sound actually pretty similar. Clustered Index: an "ordering ruleset" for the data on the disk. IOT: a method to store oracle rows in a b*Tree format instead of the default rowid-controlled heap. So, generically, both are ways you can control the physical order of the data on your disk. Is there more to it than this simplistic explanation? Followup question: why not have EVERY table be an IOT in oracle? (notwithstanding the known limitations of IOTs; no longs, no clustering) Boss > > IOT and clustered indexes are not comparable to each other. > > -Original Message- > Sent: Friday, October 24, 2003 2:44 PM > To: Multiple recipients of list ORACLE-L > > > My workplace is going in the same direction as David Mitchell's. RE: Opinions sought on possible TOAD replacement
Title: Message Management wants to standardize to a single tool for support and maintenance purposes. At least that's the story here. I have heard good things about PL/SQL Developer. If it's an option, you could checkout TOra (http://www.globecom.se/tora/) which is comparable to TOAD and $100 a license on Windows. This option offers some middle ground anyway. -Original Message-From: Paul Vincent [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, October 15, 2003 11:59 AMTo: Multiple recipients of list ORACLE-LSubject: Opinions sought on possible TOAD replacement Management have been grumbling about the cost of TOAD Professional licenses, and have been "recommended" a cheaper product called PL/SQL Developer by Allround Automations (available from Inthink Corporation at $150 a pop). Now, I've been to the product website, and read up on all its features, and it basically looks like a nice enough product, but aimed squarely at PL/SQL developers, rather than including all the DBA-oriented goodies we find in TOAD. My first reaction is to respond by saying "fine, give it to the developers to replace their copies of TOAD, if they find it adequate for development, but it's not a DBA tool, so I'll keep my TOAD Xpert with DBA module, thanks very much!". But if anyone on the list has tried both products, I'd be interested to know what you think. Is it as usable as TOAD Professional for developers? Does it have hidden charms which would make it a suitable replacement for DBA use? How responsive are the product developers to requests for enhancements? Any input is very welcome! RE: Sql query : select max timestamp value from table
Title: Message select ip, max(timestamp) from table group by ip; -Original Message-From: Johan Muller [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, October 02, 2003 10:45 AMTo: Multiple recipients of list ORACLE-LSubject: Sql query : select max timestamp value from table I have multiple timestamps values for single ip in a table, I need the max(timestamp) for each ip I select out. example: timestamp ip 2003-09-29 13:20:23 68.209.182.42003-09-29 13:20:44 68.209.182.42003-10-02 12:53:38 68.209.182.42003-10-02 12:35:06 68.75.94.1582003-10-02 12:52:03 68.97.33.69 Thus select distinct ip, max(timestamp) from table group by ip, timestamp; returns every timestamp value per ip. Any ideas on how to get only the max(timestamp) for each ip?
