Hi all,
Perhaps we have some AI experts that can train a LLM (Large Language Model) on
the entire O-List to provide an interactive chat bot to our queries?

Hi,
I looked for the “Korean crane" on the OUSA site. I only found the Nov. 13,
2010 Special Folding Fun Sessions Class of Three Bird Models by Toshiko
Kobayashi and a Class from 2017 convention of a modified one by Philip
Chapman-Bell. There was also a Crane Derivatives class by Lisa Corfman in 2021
convention that mentions Korean alternative crane to be taught in the class.

https://origamiusa.org/convention2021-class-previews?page=2

Alas I find no discussions on OUSA site about the history of the Korean Crane.

Good luck,

Hi all.
I recall something like Ken mentioned above sometime between 2006 and 2014,
when the convention was still at FIT. It was only selected people up on the
stage/platform in the big common room.

However, there is no reason it could not be done again.

I see on Amazon Japan a new book published May 2017 with ISBN 9784416617274.
The original book published in 2010 has ISBN 9784416310410. This new book seems
to have the original books content, but cannot be sure. The books have
different covers, buy the same authors and publisher.

If you are looking for the original book, then I think this new book would be a
good buy. The original is for sale on Amazon Japan used for between $900 and
$1800. The new one is considerably less expensive, even after international
shipping.

If you want to find these books on Amazon or Amazon Japan, use the ISBN numbers
as your search criteria.

Black Black gum has been including paper in their gum canisters for some time

If anything paper ripping is a Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). OCD is an
anxiety disorder in which people have unwanted and repeated thoughts, feelings,
ideas, sensations (obsessions), or behaviors that make them feel driven to do

Turning over paper to score creases on both sides and have them align is very,
very , very difficult, nigh impossible, with this technology. Without
registration marks on both sides of the paper for computer alignment, or
computer vision doing the alignment for you, it will be hit and miss, and

[Origami] Drawing Origami book

2014-11-23 Thread Brian K. Webb
Hi all,
Nicolas Terry has produced another great origami book. This time with the
diagrams drawn by the cartoon illustrator Halle. 36 models ranging from simple
to complex level. It is a collective book dedicated to the new generation of
artists, mentored by some great masters like Trollip, Diaz and Lang. All
diagrams highlight the models with clear step-by-step folding instructions.

Google Books showed me them in Origami Design Secrets 2nd Edition by Robert
Lang - page 59 Figure 4.4 and page 60 Figure 4.5.

I own both ODS editions, but too lazy to go to the bookshelf and find it in the

[Origami] The IRON Folders at Curiosity Fair

2014-06-12 Thread Brian K. Webb
Hi all,
If you find yourself near Indy this weekend June 14-15, 2014, then come visit
the Curiosity Fair at Conner Prairie. The IRON Folders will be participating
all weekend. We will be teaching several traditional models to the fair
attendees, We will also have models on display. The fair looks to be real fun
with many different activities besides origami. You can also see the living
history museum representing life on 1830s Indiana farm.

The website for the fair is

I agree, they should have a visual index. Unfortunately most of the ebooks for
origami on Kindle store are really just the paper books squashed into the
Kindle format. So if the paper edition did not have a visual index, then the
Kindle version does not either.

I am fairly certain that all of the ebooks by John Montroll on Kindle have a
visual index. At least they did when I made the files that were delivered to
Amazon :-)

Back in September 2011 the book - THE WINDMILL BASE - LA BASE MOLINO - was

More than 100 models and projects -classic and all new- with full color
diagrams and hundreds of photos.
It is a very comprehensive overview of all the folds derived from the windmill
base.

I have not heard more about this other than the announcement. Perhaps someone

Find someone that loves to fold exacting grids and beg, bribe, make friends
with them for some pre-creased paper :-)

I use a KNK Zing which is 14 inches wide.
http://knkusa.com/shop/knk-zing/

There are many other such devices that are computerized cutting machines with
the cutting head switched out to crease or score the paper.

People also use lasers to score or perforate the paper.

It is possible to make, without cutting, "O", "P", "g" ... by using more than
one page. The bottom of the "O" would be formed by one page and the very next
page forms the top of the "O". By alternating in this pattern, one can make it
look very nice. A "g" would need to alternate through 3 pages.

[Origami] Origami sighting - House of Cards TV series

2013-02-02 Thread Brian K. Webb
The new series by Netflix called House of Cards has a few episodes with origami.
One episode has a homeless man throw a $20 bill folded into a swan at the lady
that gave him the money the day before.
The lady later in the episode or next episode, is seen learning origami from
videos on her iPad and a book, at the same time.
In episode 6 she gives some origami she folded to a congressman for his kids.

The lady is Claire Underwood, a congressman's wife, and played by the actress
Robin Wright.

I am sure there is more, but I have only seen the first few episodes.
