Re: [Origami] Origamee is no more

This is really devastating news. Meenakshi was a wonderful person and a
great teacher.
I met her first at the Origami USA convention more than 20 years ago. She
was in NYC to receive her "Lone folder award". I attended her class where
she taught one of her cube modulars. She had not published her books at the
time.
My prayers for the family to have the courage and strength to bear this
loss.

[Origami] World record attempt for folding the largest butterfly

2018-01-22 Thread Ravi Apte
My friends from Origami Mitra (Friends of Origami), led by Milind Kelkar,
made an attempt at folding the ‘World’s Largest Origami Butterfly’. Here is
the description in his own words.

Quote
Along with my ‘Origami Mitra, Pune’ team, tried to fold ‘World’s Largest
Origami Butterfly’ yesterday in association with Somaiya College, Mumbai.
We were 20 folders in the team, age ranging from 10 years to 60 years. The
current Guinness Record is of wing size 14’ x 11’. We used 50’ x 50’ paper
for this and folded the butterfly of wing size 48’9” x 26’6”. It was really
difficult to frame it in a camera.

I found this posting of mine from 2008 about Ron Resch's US patents.

I had the privilege of meeting him and hearing his presentation at one of
the Gathering for Gardner events in 2006. He is mentioned in the following

Hi,

Significant work on this subject was done by Ronald D. Resch who secured
several patents as under:

August 1965 - 3,201,894 - Geometrical device having articulated relatively
movable sections

October 1968 - 3,407,558 - Self Supporting structural unit having a series
of repetitious geometrical modules

November 1977 - 4,059,932 - Self Supporting structural unit having a three

Any research on similar subjects should review this body of work details of
which can be had via the US Patents Office.

One of the best standing cranes is by the late James Sakoda. Here is a

I want to re-iterate what Jennifer has indicated. Long tapings are brought
down to minutes and those who are being taped have little control over what
finally goes in. I know both Ros and Talo well and am 100% confident that
they would have mentioned the many many volunteers from OUSA and around the
world, who submitted models..Unfortunately these lines got the proverbial
editors cuts.

[Origami] Sad news about Elsje... ELFA

2014-07-19 Thread Ravi Apte
RIP Elsje..

On Jul 17, 2014, at 23:06, "Nabil beitinjanehnabil.beitinja...@gmail.com

Dear ELFAns,

It is with a very heavy heart that I go to sleep tonight.

elsje, one of the founders of ELFA and ELFA-e has departed today from this
world (on the 17th of July 2014).

elsje was a dear friend to all and the most generous person I have ever
met.

elsje's enthusiasm for folding, paper painting (sumi and ebru) and bubble
making was legendary. She shared freely wanting all to see the beauty of
what could be done with a piece of paper and some ink. She has many books
to her credit and has participated in most of the ELFA booklets created.
She diagrammed many folds and researched letter folds and folded envelope
history extensively.

The simplicity in which she approached folding and life in general were
just amazing.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday 22 July on 10.30 o'clock at
Natuurbegraafplaats Heidepol, Harderwijkerweg 37, 6816 VA Arnhem, Holland .

Everybody is welcome to come and say goodbye to her. You can bring
sunflowers or folded white cranes.

For us who cannot make it to the funeral in person, your thoughts, prayers
or meditations on love and attention would be appreciated.

elsje (I believe) would be happy if each of us sends an ELFA fold to a
friend to show them how much they are appreciated. I commit to send an
envelope to anyone who sends me privately their address .

I will end with elsje's greeting to all in the last while:

love and attention

I think both will allow upload from excel files and so on, if you have
