Precisely we have to take the heavy cue from our ex ex PM Tun Mahathir
that rightly realised the branding gap and took big steps towards it.
Today we do not need to spend millions to brand F1 which is not ours
anyway but we can brand our own projects. Jimmy Choo and Michelle Yeoh
or Vijay Singh (not rakyat but in law to rakyat). If we put up
billboards featuring their faces and my goat and say "Made In Malaysia -
Yes, Malaysia Can" it will attract more investment due to the
motivation, drive, spirit, semangat berkobar-kobar and it wont take even
0.0001% of any Rancangan Malaysia. Sadly the Pau Lady poster does not
jinggle any pocket well.

I have seen so much ideas given out here by our young turks and i pity
that ALL if not most of them will end up leaving open source when they
dry out as they get employed by proprietary companies that harvest their
juices. Hopefully RMK10 brings change. If not hopefully the next General
Elections. If not, keep bitching i mean pitching. :)

What sucks in what in most mind, certificate == employability
It is not totally wrong. but IT is much much bigger than that.
When people heard of a well known name, their just impressed easily.

when you tell people i can code in python, they just ask what.
such is a sad state of .my now

Scrambled, just the filter is open source, habis terbukak la semua
rahsia :)
Yeah good idea.. maybe we suggest in RMK10 to either use OpenJDK or
Python.
I also talked to Boh by closed paid phone call that we can propose
Python and ADempiere as top topics for KPerak to build real world
skills.

Some months ago MDec announced MOU with Oracle as a way to increase
employability for our grads. Don't they know that will certainly
exarcebrate further the major national issue of brain drain? If more
grads are good in Oracle and now Java, more will leave our shores for
Singapore, US and China.

Why doesn't MDec take the goatman advice that in order to arrest the
brain drain and absense of brains (related not infered) we have to have
our own beef with our own brandname on it? MDec should sell ADempiere
to the universities as top prority issue.

In the end what is left in MDec are lots of foreign names that are just
shadows cos ppl prefer to work with Oracle Redwood Shores rather than
Oracle CyberJaya. I can guarantee this - that ADempiere can be moved
from Berlin and USA to KPerak or CyberJaya. But it got to have more
than just a goat standing in Kuang. It got to have direct activity, and
not the same old conferences demi conferences, slogan demi slogan about
other people stuff, and none is ours.

It is always the chicken and goat story. Someone better get the farm
right or else we call for a change of MDec's leadership. KPerak has
already done that.

I thought I didn't skip ITS330 (Information Systems Development) class
when I was at UiTM and I am right. Here is the definition of BETA
release software

from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_release_life_cycle#Beta

"Beta version software is likely to be useful for internal
demonstrations and previews to select customers."

At this point, VirtualBox 3.2.0 Beta 1 is far from useful, it is _useless_

So ejat, revise it :)

DISCLAIMER - This is not a rant. If it ever deviated to such a lowly
state, please ignore and do not read further.
LANGUAGE PREFENCE - I will try to sitck to the Indonesian Java -
Manglish with a smackering of colloqial Javanese.

Ok,waras! Alkisahnya, one day in September 2006 i was ask to head the
ADempiere project which maintain an Open Source ERP that is top ranked (
last month's SourceForge update statea it as No.2 worldwide most active
project). Not bad for a Malaysian eh? Yeah, right. So i was paraded
around by local Malaysians such as Hasanudin (IBM now ex) to KPerak in
late 2006 (Tajol Rosli was MB, now ex) (and another ex (Nizar) after that).

In their first meeting at PJ Hilton which i was requested to attend, the
KPerak exco of Tan Sri Noraidah (names not accurate to protect the
innocent) and Dato Yacoob Nordin told me how frustrated they are with
MDec and MAMPU's slowness that they went together with Dato Zamri (then
Exco IT now MB) to ExtraMadura of Sepanyol to see how Debian works in
schools. And when i presented ADempiere as a higher layer ERP, they drop
that and switch to my project as a top agenda that they can proudly say
"Malaysia Boleh - Buatan KPerak".

KPerak issued me a letter of intent that they will setup an ADempiere
Centre in KPerak. However that did not materialise. Or so it seems until
lately when they just changed their CEO. More on that later.

Then came MDec. I was always wondering about that Pau Lady poster up
there at the MDec's HQ in CyberJaya saying 'from 500 to 5,000 paus a
day'. It is a curious case because not only is that Pau Lady using any
of the 7 MSC Flagship Applications such as the IC and Passport chip
which would make a better facade, but she is using FaceBook, not a good
case of locally created app.

So i have to spit out the sireh i tengah kunyah one subuh when i
received news that MDec was organising OSCONF 2009 and inviting Google,
Phyton and other global greats not not the top ranked SourceForge
project, ADempiere. I wrote to Riz which immediately 'boleh, boleh' and
so at last i end up on the front page of Star's Intech cover story.
Great isn't it? Yeah, so did my goat!

And curiously, MDec did nothing after that. Even its RM10million
promise. Later i learnt that it really has run out of funds and everyone
has to wait for R-M-K-Ten. Well, hopefully BN does not end its winning
streak or else there will be too many ex-es and new guys may take over
in MDec and KPerak and i have to sell my goat story all over again from
scratch. That is why i am pening this story here so that its rendered to
posterity.

Now before i go back to Ipoh, i want to visit another place in
PutraJaya. Last month i got a call from MAMPU's OSCC's Nicholas Suppiah
(again, name is scrambled) that a top govt agency is asking for
ADempiere reference in USA, China or Singapore to visit. I agreed for
the call to come thru and i ended up speaking to Jabatan Akauntan Negara
(again, name scrambled) that they are sick of paying high SAP license
fees (hmm.. let me guess. R-M-K-Nine has no more money?). So i agreed to
assist provided they pay me in R-M-K-Ten. They agreed and will write me
a letter that for the moment i will assist Pro Bono. Well, i can trust
AG Dept more cos they wont change heads when the govt of the day
changes. X fingers and touch kayu pokok.

Now KPerak new CEO 2 months ago call on me. He told me that he has
followed me since the first time i was in KPerak when he was down the
line and with the new MB's lineup his name was slotted to be the new
CEO. He told me how he tak berani buka mulut because he is down the line
but now that he is on the line he shall take up the damn ADempiere
initiative again. Hmm.. no wonder some MDec officials down the line are
bit quiet. Hope they beome the new CEO one day and call on me! :) hehe,
yeah right!

So Dr. Kamil, the new KPerak CEO lay down the cards. KPerak needs help.

i have upgraded to ubuntu unr 10.04. it has openoffice.org 3.2 oracle (no
more mention of sun).

soon we will probably have to apt-get oracle-java6-jdk ?

maybe in 5 years time we will also have apt-get microsoft-php6 ?

Solaris is also acquired by Oracle, it's called Oracle Solaris no
more Sun Solaris. Current uname shows SunOS and I believe it will
change to OracleOS soon. But I don't think OpenSolaris will become
proprietary again.

[osdcmy-public] VirtualBox Version 3.2.0 BETA 1 available with the name Oracle VM VirtualBox

2010-05-01 Terurut Topik Hasanuddin Abu Bakar
So Oracle owns VirtualBox. How do you think about this guys?

VirtualBox Version 3.2.0 is a major update. The following major new
features were added:
• Following the acquisition of Sun Microsystems by Oracle Corporation,
the product is now called Oracle VM VirtualBox and all references were
changed without impacting compatibility.
• Experimental support for Mac OS X guests
• Memory ballooning to dynamically in- or decrease the amount of RAM
used by a VM (64-bit hosts only) (see the manual for more information)
• CPU hot-plugging for Linux (hot-add and hot-remove) and certain
Windows guests (hot-add only) (see the manual for more information)
• New Hypervisor features: with both VT-x/AMD-V on 64-bit hosts, using
large pages can improve performance (see the manual for more
information); also, on VT-x, unrestricted guest execution is now
supported (if nested paging is enabled with VT-x, real mode and
protected mode without paging code runs faster, which mainly speeds up
guest OS booting)
• Support for deleting snapshots while the VM is running
• Support for multi-monitor guest setups in the GUI (see the manual
for more information)
• USB tablet/keyboard emulation for improved user experience if no
Guest Additions are available
• LsiLogic SAS controller emulation
• RDP video acceleration
• NAT engine configuration via API and VBoxManage
• Guest Additions: added support for executing guest applications from
the host system
• OVF: enhanced OVF support with custom namespace to preserve settings
that are not part of the base OVF standard

Yup, i installed affilate. all the functions i want is there, but i need
some customization work done.
in short, this is what i need:
1. administrator can set who is the referrer (similar to
e-commerce/affiliate module)
2. orders created by the admin can be added into the affiliate center. the
way i understand the uc_affiliate module, only orders thru the affiliate
link is added into the affiliate center. i want to add it manually thru
admin.
are you interested? its a paid job :-)
