Penjenayah dipercayai didalangi beberapa lelaki warga asing dikesan berkeliaran di hotel, restoran dan pusat beli-belah terkemuka sebelum melarikan beg mangsa ketika mangsa cuai atau leka. Malah, dalam beberapa kes, suspek sengaja membawa beg kosong menyerupai beg sandang milik mangsa sebelum ia ditinggalkan untuk mengelirukan mangsa sebaik penjenayah memperoleh apa diidamkan. Dalam kes terbaru kelmarin, seorang pakar teknologi maklumat dari Amerika Syarikat berusia 47 tahun menjadi mangsa apabila begnya dilarikan manakala sebuah beg palsu sengaja ditinggalkan berhampirannya. Sumber polis berkata, dalam kejadian jam 11 malam itu, mangsa bersama seorang rakannya minum di sebuah restoran di Jalan Changkat Bukit Bintang di sini. Difahamkan, mangsa sengaja menyangkut beg sandang miliknya berwarna kelabu di kerusi sambil mangsa duduk berbual serta minum bersama rakannya. “Namun beberapa minit kemudian, mangsa terkejut apabila mendapati begnya lesap manakala sebuah lagi beg tidak dikenali ditinggalkan berhampiran kerusinya. “Mangsa membuka beg terbabit dan mendapati isinya kosong. Suspek mengesyaki begnya yang mengandungi komputer riba dan pelbagai barang berharga lain dilarikan beberapa lelaki warga Timur Tengah yang duduk di sebelahnya sebelum kejadian,” katanya. Menurutnya, mangsa membuat laporan polis. “Hasil siasatan, anggota Jabatan Siasatan Jenayah Balai Polis Dang Wangi memberkas dua lelaki warga Algeria berusia 24 dan 32 tahun yang dipercayai terbabit dengan jenayah terbabit. Mereka direman untuk siasatan lanjut,” katanya. Sementara itu, dalam satu lagi kes berasingan kelmarin, seorang pelancong warga Pakistan berusia 40 tahun menjadi mangsa apabila beg tangan isterinya dilarikan penjenayah ketika mangsa sekeluarga menjamu selera di sebuah restoran makanan segera di pusat beli-belah terkemuka di Jalan Imbi di sini. Sumber polis berkata, dalam kejadian jam 2.40 petang itu, mangsa yang baru selesai makan bersama sembilan ahli keluarga lain terkejut apabila beg tangan isterinya yang diletakkan di lantai restoran lesap. Mangsa cuba mencari beg itu di kawasan berkenaan, namun percaya penjenayah sudah melarikan diri bersama beg tangan terbabit yang berisi wang tunai RM9,000 dan pelbagai barang berharga lain. Susulan itu, mangsa yang juga ahli perniagaan membuat laporan polis di balai polis berhampiran. Ketua Jabatan Siasatan jenayah Kuala Lumpur, Datuk Ku Chin Wah, berkata pihaknya menerima banyak kes berhubung kecurian membabitkan pelancong asing terutama di kawasan tumpuan awam. With some knowledge, and the tools are out there, a bunch of hackers can start building a botnet, and then then start to use this for really bad purposes. This is turning to the 'darkside' - do we want to create that situation? Now for the positive points: 3. All the security hacks will show the weakness of Proprietary SW (PSW), especially MS. There's a lot of MS based servers (and some Linux one's prob) that have not been patched with the latest security upgrades (dare I guess many government sites?). Exploiting these shouldn't be too diffcult. Showing the public how vulnerable PSW is may swing support towards FOSS! 4. Demo of Security attacks should also target clients/desk/lap tops, not only servers. Fact is, many Windoze clients get easily compromised, via email and web and become bots, which are then used for spamming etc. I get spam from idiots whose computers have been compromised, but still don't seem do anything about it!
