The Isle of Skye and the surrounding of Ullapool are marvelous, whatever the weather is. And if you don't like the weather, just wait 20 minutes ;-) Regards, -Fred ___ osg-users mailing list osg-users@lists.openscenegraph.org http://lists.openscenegraph.org/listinfo.cgi/osg-users-openscenegraph.org
Re: [osg-users] Weekend adventure
Hi All, Thanks for the support. The run went really well - completed the 30 miles in 5 hours 24 minutes, not too shabby considering there was over 1000m of steep ascent/decent and good enough for 5th out of 30 runners. Views were stunning, weather was perfect for the event - mostly overcast about 15 degrees Celsius, save for the last 8 miles in to the end where the sun came out. My legs are pretty stiff today, especially awkward when walking down stairs but am in much better shape now than after the Edinburgh marathon, despite the course being longer, and far tougher and more technical. I can only guess that the mixed terrain helps even out the stresses and strains better than running on roads. If you have a choice between a trail Marathon or a road one, I'd suggest going for the trail one every time! As for the area, if you can come to Scotland be sure to visit the north west coast, the 3 hours drive there was stunning all the way and the final destination topped it all. Sure the weather can be stormy sometimes, but that's what you get when the Atlantic Sea's first landfall is a wall of mountains, for those with the required wet weather gear it just makes the scenery all the more dramatic ;-) Cheers, Robert. ___ osg-users mailing list osg-users@lists.openscenegraph.org http://lists.openscenegraph.org/listinfo.cgi/osg-users-openscenegraph.org

Looks great - Have a nice weekend! The car is packed with food, camping and running equipment and I'm now setting off. Tomorrow morning I set off on my first mountain marathon, the Lochalsh Dirty 30. http://www.lochalsh-trails.co.uk/ We start at the pituresque village of Glenelg on the west coast of Scotland, overlooking the Isle of Skye, then run along the coast, past the famous Eilean Donan Castle (it's featured in many films) and then back into the mountains and through a mountain pass, then back to Glenelg for beers and food. Total distance is 30 miles, with 1000m of ascent/descent thrown into the mix, furthest I've ever been on foot in one day so it's quite a challenging adventure, but ohh yes the countryside is stunning and worth ever step. But... of course I'll be thinking about terrain visualization, shader composition and fixing pesky bugs as I go... for a at least a second or two ;-) Catch up with you all on Monday, and have a great weekend yourselves, Robert. ___ osg-users mailing list osg-users@lists.openscenegraph.org http://lists.openscenegraph.org/listinfo.cgi/osg-users-openscenegraph.org The University of Aberdeen is a charity registered in Scotland, No SC013683. ___ osg-users mailing list osg-users@lists.openscenegraph.org http://lists.openscenegraph.org/listinfo.cgi/osg-users-openscenegraph.org
Re: [osg-users] Weekend adventure
Hi Robert, Ah, life becomes colorful with hobbies, isn't it? :) I'm a novel writer in my spare time, and love to read lots of books everytime and everywhere. But it seems that I still really lack physical exercise. Maybe I should get out of the city and get in a good walk like you, after my OSG book finished and not too busy with business. But at this time I'll be first thinking of a new powerful particle effects implementation in OSG, which will be used to satisfy my client and can be used to enhance the osgParticle library if possible. Also I'll work hard on the beginners book and continue helping to improve the OSG development, too. Have a nice weekend! Enjoy the run and the change of pace!
