Display tags on polygons

2021-02-20 Thread Gavinx

Often area polygons tags are sitting (correctly) on the area. For example
the name of a building.
In these instances OSM cannot display the names or the use tag.

Is there a setting I can change to fix this?

Note I have also posted this on github, being unsure how many people will
read it there

Do you search using the OLC code

2020-07-15 Thread Gavinx
I often search in osmand using the OLC code. This is because the
effectiveness of searching by other means, such as a street address, is
often limited by the information that is in OSM and therefore osmand.

I do this by searching in google maps for what I am after and then using
the "plus code" copy and paste that into Search ~ Address~ Coordinates
Search.

But this process is not smooth;

   1. When I open Coordinates Search the field I need to paste in already
has the current location's OLC. So this has to be deleted.
   2. I paste the google plus code in but this returns "Invalid
   Coordinates".
   3. To make the plus code valid I need to, starting from the right hand
side of the string delete characters until the algorithm can find the the
location. But the problem is the pasted string fills up the space so you
cannot start from the far right but somewhere in the middle, delete enough
characters to create space at the end and then start deleting from the end.

My intention is to post a feature request in the github site that would
somehow improve this but before I do I thought i would ask others if they
have a better way of searching or indeed improvements to the process I have
listed above.

thanks

Re: Using Google maps to connect to a location in, 'Osmand'

But who can remember all those digits comprising a lat/lon? I changed the
Coordinate format in OSM to OLC and get that information from google maps
resulting in 4 to 7 numbers to remember.
But do read up on google qwik codes as there are some tricks. Most of the
time google only offers 4 numbers, which is not enough. In those cases you
also need to enter the location such as the city.

Custom Search

2019-03-23 Thread Gavinx
So I am currently travelling in Japan and wanted to find an onsen.

The wiki here says
the correct way to tag it is amenity=public_bath etc

So I tried to create a custom search for "amenity" but it is not listed in
the sub categories or available as a User Defined sub category.

Anyone know a way around this?

The Custom Search feature is great but the categories seem disconnected to
recommended tagging protocols.

Re: Altitude value of the point in context menu

There is an altitude widget you can configure from the Configure Screen

there are also contour maps that provide this information.

If you are talking about selecting a specific point to get what is
considered "extended information" you have the wrong program.
There are many advantages of being able to select a point to get extended
information but it is a question of how big the files would become -
presumerably.

I really like the idea of being able to select an object on the map to get

supported), road surfaces that have been tagged etc.

It think this idea is a rich vein of information but programmatically
difficult?

Recording track

So if I record a gpx trail I activate the button I have configured to be on

Later, if I press the gpx widget again I am presented with the option of

If I save the track I get to save and name the file immediately.
If I don't save the track the next day I will find there has been a track
saved with the date of when the gpx file was created.

So whats the difference?

More details available in Show Description menu

2017-09-20 Thread Gavinx
I live amongst some roads whose speed limit changes depending on the time
of year - ie seasonal.

Osmand can be configured to show current speed limit however it cannot
handle speed limits that change in the manner I have described above. And
frankly I would be surprised if it ever could.

Currently I can select a road which pulls up a bottom bar showing what has
been selected. If I then select the 3 dots another dialogue box opens I can
select "Show Description". Can the description be configured to show more
information? This could display the various speed limits.

Recently Mapillary images were added. Why can't more tags be shown?

Should I add this to github?

thanks
Gavin

Prevent screen from turning off

Does it only demonstrate this behaviour when following a route or just general
browsing?

Re: How to edit saved earlier route?

Err, this is a navigation program, not a gpx editing one.

Screen off control

2017-05-07 Thread Gavinx
Thanks Peter but this won't work because I am not in navigation mode but am
browsing.
I have a GPX trail loaded so I just follow it and because it is 1000 kilometres
long I don't construct a route.

Re: path with tracktype will not render

2017-03-07 Thread Gavinx
If you look at the tagging on these ways you will see why it does not
behave the way you expect.
Please investigate before criticizing, the program is good but cannot
possibly keep up with everyone's view on how it should operate. :-)

Custom maps

2017-02-24 Thread Gavinx
I am doing a lot of mapping work in my area and would like to see it in
osmand so I can monitor my progress but do not want to wait the up to 30
days for a new map.

I know I can in principal make my own map. Can this be done based on a
bounding box that I specify as I only want to make a very small map.

thanks

Change width of contour lines

2016-09-01 Thread Gavinx
I often use OSMAnd in the back country - in National Parks.

I need to:

   1. Make contour lines more obvious - thicker and different colour
   2. Remove the green shading of National Parks

I have checked the various map styles but they do not help.

Is there any way I can make these changes?

thanks
Gavin

Software falls asleep while recording trip

2016-06-20 Thread Gavinx
Am using 2.3.5 Android 4.4.2 on Samsung Note and find that the software
falls asleep whilst recording a track. When it is asleep no track is
recorded.

Is there a setting I have not ticked?

thanks
