Re: [ozmidwifery] breastfeeding and constipation

2003-07-20 Thread Andrea Quanchi
It is not uncommon for BF babies to go up to two weeks between bowel
actions. The babies behaviour sound like what my babies did as the were
always unsettled for the 48 hours before they went than they were at
other times. As to why this has happened now I would suggest that the
baby is probably taking less milk due to the solids intake. I would
suggest backing off the solids again to see if it resolves and the start
again reintroducing one thing at a time slowly to see if mum can tell
what the babies tolerance is
Hop this helps

Does anyone have any ideas why a perfectly healthy 6+ month old baby

Since birth she has regularly gone 48-72 hours between full nappies
with no concern from her or Mum; starting solids slowly - pureed fruit
and veges and chewing on Sao's with sore gums. Went 8 days (bit of a
drama by day 6 - very unhappy baby) and was shockingly distressed by
day 8. Used water, infant coloxyl, massage etc

We are now heading into day 4 - starting to get a bit restless (the
baby) again.

RE: [ozmidwifery] breastfeeding and constipation

2003-07-18 Thread Larry & Megan
Just some ideas,
firstly baby may benefit from treatment by an osteopath who specialises in
paeds. Also contacting an infant massager who could teach the mum some
techniques to help with moving the poo along, any wind etc. Likewise a
homeopath/naturapath could be of help. It may be good to drop the solids off
for a while and let the baby get 'regular' again, its body may just not be
ready to cope with food. Finally, is the baby vaccinated, digestive problems
can be associated with this.
Hope things improve, its terrible to see a baby in agony over constipation.

Re: [ozmidwifery] breastfeeding and constipation

2003-07-15 Thread Kristin Beckedahl

Hi Cheryl,
It may be the wheat in the Sao biscuits - go for the other grains; corn, millet, barley etc
I'd also advise a probiotic supplement specifically for infants; Natren 'Lifestart' or Metagenics 'Flora Care'.  The latter is usually available from naturopathic clinics, and the Natren product is available at most quality health food stores.
Good luck!
Kind regards,
Kristin
