- License should be MIT, I don't see any references to GPLv2+ or Ruby in any of
the included files.
- Maybe you could alter the way you run tests by moving the
-I%{buildroot}%{geminstdir}/lib parameter to RUBYOPT. I think that once you use
RUBYOPT, you should place everything in it not to make mess of things.

So after you correct the License tag, this package is APPROVED.

- The tests are compatible with RSpec 2, so I would recommend changing BR:
rubygem(rspec) to rubygem(rspec-core).
- Consider moving README.rdoc to doc subpackage.
- The %defattr(-, root, root, -) lines can be omitted according to [1]

So after you repair these few details, this package is APPROVED.

I'm sorry, but this package was orphaned for a reason. Major applications are
now using hunspell instead of aspell (feature from F-9). All packages dependent
on perl-Text-Aspell should be fixed to do not use it.
You might didn't notice message on fedora-devel:
http://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/devel/2011-April/150919.html

And last git commit in old repo says:
Retired in favor of perl-Text-Hunspell.

(In reply to comment #9)

All packages dependent on perl-Text-Aspell should be fixed to do not use it.

I understood from the feature that applications would use hunspell but not that
all other dictionaries would be removed from the distribution. Is this going to
happen with OpenSSL once the Crypto Consolidation feature lands ?

You might didn't notice message on fedora-devel:
 http://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/devel/2011-April/150919.html

I can't speak for Tom but I missed this. I was convinced that perl-Text-Aspell
had been orphaned with devel or perl-devel being warned.

And last git commit in old repo says:
 Retired in favor of perl-Text-Hunspell.

This is extremely bad form.
We've had broken deps in the distribution since April because this package was
retired prematurely. acheck should have first built without it as a dependency.

- You should run tests/specs it upstream has them. Download them from upstream
(https://github.com/josh/useragent), make another source of them and use them.
You can look at [1] for an example of how this can be done.
- It is not necessary to include license both in the main package and in the
doc subpackage, since the doc subpackage Requires the main one (and thus can
only be present if the main one is). I would recommend leaving the LICENSE file
just in the main package.

--- Comment #3 from Bohuslav Kabrda bkab...@redhat.com 2011-10-14 07:51:23

- License is MIT.
- The defined %ruby_sitelib macro is never used, so please remove it.
- You should use %global instead of %define, according to [1].
- You don't need to specify BuildRoot tag, see [2]
- Could you explain the Requires: rubygem(rubyforge) and Requires:
rubygem(gemcutter)? I don't see why the library wouldn't work without them.
- Simlarly, can you explain the BuildRequires: rubygem(yard)? I don't see what
you need yard for during the build.
- You don't need to use the %defattr(-, root, root, -) line, see [3]
- Consider moving documentation into a subpackage (except of README.rdoc, which
contains licensing info and therefore should be left in the main package).
- rpmbuild complains about History.rdoc and Manifest.txt listed twice. To solve
it:
** the package shouldn't own the whole %{gemdir}/gems/%{gemname}-%{version}/
directory (BTW you can use %{geminstdir} instead of it), but should rather own
%dir %{geminstdir}
** when you do that, you will need to add every subdirectory and file in
%{geminstdir} to %files, but you will be able to avoid the complaints about
files listed twice

Thanks for the suggestion. I've put that separation back into the spec.

 - Next time, consider using gem2rpm, it saves a lot of work when packaging

This spec file -was- generated with gem2rpm.

Your way to generate the tarball isn't canonical. In my mind, you should use
the original tarball and run your script in %build. This makes it easier to
 get
 the checksum for the tarball.
I'm just following this page:

http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Packaging:SourceURL#When_Upstream_uses_Prohibited_Code
I can't embed the original tarball in the source RPM because it contains
nonfree items (Ubuntu logo is copyrighted).

--- Comment #11 from Ralf Corsepius rc040...@freenet.de 2011-10-14 22:49:35
EDT ---
(In reply to comment #10)
Taking it for review as I am a sponsor.

The %dir %{_libdir}/opendbx should be only in the base package and not
duplicated in all of the backend subpackages.

Why?

In cases, packages sharing directories depend upon each other in a strict
hierarchic dependency, having a base package own the shared-directory and the
backends/plugins not owning it is _one possible option_.
The alternative is to let _all_, base and backends/plugins packages, which
use this shared directory to let them own it.

It's up to the discretion of the packager to choose from these approaches.

In general, the second approach is much more flexible, general and superior
approach. It is the only applicable approach when there is no strict hierarchy

Classic example for such a case would be a plugin/backends system being used by
several, independent frontends - Then sharing ownership of directories is
mandatory.

Real world example for such a case in fedora is the perl-modules: Each
perl-module package m must own all directories it owns, because there is no
fixed, strict dependency between them.
