After you reinstall CW, does it work OK? When does it go bad again?
I worked on that code for a long time and I'm stumped as to what's
gone wrong... are you running on a multicore or multiprocessor
machine? Maybe there's a conflict with that, and you need to run CW
in compatibility mode to tell it to stick to a single CPU core.

positive. because as soon as install xp it goes and get the update and
installs it. it then
asks before to restart or later. of course as soon as it updates and boot CW
is screwed.

Re: Code Warrior problem with XP updates

2008-02-01 Thread Aaron . Hansen
Here are the steps I take when installing CW to WinXP SP2. BTW I highly
recommend going to 9.3 if at all possible. It is much more stable than
9.0 or 9.2.

1. Install Release 9
2. Select ?Full Installation?
3. Accept defaults for remaining prompts
4. Install update 9.2
5. Install update 9.3
6. Install the Palm SDK. Note that if the SDK installer cannot find
Metrowerks, browse to the location of your install.
7. Copy ?\{root}\(Palm OS Support Old)\Incs\Core\System\charattr.h To
?\{root}\Palm OS Support\Incs\Core\System; where {root} is the name of the
install directory where you installed CW.
8. Open the project: ...\CW for Palm OS Support\Build All.mcp; and build
this project.

This works for me. In addition you can do the following to get USB on
device debugging working. Move (don't copy) the USBPort.dll file from the
System32 folder to the PalmOne Program Files folder.

Hope that helps,

Aaron Hansen

I'm also on a brand new pc since 2 weeks and I did not see that problem on
any of my old and new computer.
(AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual, with Windows XP 32bits)
And a applyed all the windows updates.

Are you sure it's related to windows update?

I had a similar problem. I bought a cheap copy of CW9 on eBay, but I never
managed to install it properly. What killed me was the CW9.2 upgrade, which
resulted in exactly the symptoms you describe. In my case though, Windows
Update was not involved.

well this is a new XP install and with CW 9.0.
works fine until Windows decides to update itself and after a Restart some of
the functions
refused to work like opening a project, opening the resource in the project
causes CW to quit.

i rather not have the stupid Windows updates than have to reinstall CW each
time. pain in the ass.

I've been using CW 9 on XP for a long time and never got any problem related
to windows update.

If you can find out which update package is causing the problem, you can
disable that particular patch. Otherwise, you can disable automatic updates,
but that is very dangerous.

I have the same trouble. Only god know what is the service on your computer
conflicts with CW93. So if you will reinstall Windows XP you resolve this
problem in any cases. Of caurse you can try to switch off some services
(antivirusses for example) but it may not be usefull for you.
I resolve this problem for me by using the virtual machine with a clean Windows
