[Paraview] Ensight Files - crash with 3.10 and 3.12

works for 3.8.

The ParaView team is pleased to announce the availability of the
ParaView 3.12.0 Release Candidate 2 binaries for download on the
ParaView (http://paraview.org/paraview/resources/software.html).
ParaView 3.12 can be considered as a bug-fix release with over
180 issues resolved. The detailed list can be found at
http://www.paraview.org/Bug/changelog_page.php.

With Python being one of the preferred means of interacting with
ParaView, we've added support to create animation tracks that use
Python scripts to build highly customized animations.

Plugins support is one of the strong points of ParaView and with
this release, we've made it easier to load deployed plugins on the
server processes as well. All distributed plugins are now listed
on the client as well as the server side.

The release includes updates to LANL's streaming framework.
The multiresolution streaming view now automatically adjusts
resolution to match the projected image size. Also, VTK filters
are now able to modify meta-information which means they can
modify the data while still allowing the streaming framework to
cull and prioritize pieces. An example is a new spherical warp
filter that projects flat data onto the globe while correctly
tracking piece bounding boxes.

Also, there are updates to support users of the cosmology
and windblade formats. For example the MaskPoints filter (used to
place glyphs and in other places) was updated with new options
that improve random sampling in parallel. Likewise VTK's Gaussian
Splatter filter is now exposed in ParaView which makes it easy to
visualize point set data with imaging filters. The cosmo and
windblade readers have also been revised.

This version includes some major changes under the
covers. ParaView 3.12 includes improvements to the underpinnings
of ParaView ServerManager. The communication layer under the
ParaView ServerManager was upgraded to minimize communication as
well as making it easier to debug and trace messages being
exchanged between client and server. We now use Google Protocol
Buffers, for example, to exchange messages between client and server.

In addition, there are several small but notable improvements
included in this release for example, the views now use caching to
avoid re-renders from repaints due to menus and dialogs popup up
on the screen; volume rendering of uniform grids now supports
shading; ability to enable specular highlights when using scalar
coloring and others.

The updated userguide can be accessed at:
http://www.paraview.org/Wiki/ParaView/Users_Guide/Table_Of_Contents
Or in PDF form at:
http://paraview.org/files/v3.12/ParaView%20Users%20Guide%20v3.12.pdf

The development team has adopted a git-workflow-based development
process that is integrated with the ParaView Bug Tracker
(http://paraview.org/Bug). The workflow enables us to track every
change that goes into ParaView and maintain a stable repository.

We value your feedback. Please use

This was obviously a similar problem, but now it is not the trace, but
the state file in 3.10.1.

Could you let me know, for each .foam file, what data types the
multiblock dataset contains? Are the blocks unstructured grid,
polydata, other? You should be able to avoid the problem by commenting
line 186 in your plot.py file, where ScalarOpacityUnitDistance is assigned.

Both .foam files are bascically the same geometry calculated with just a
different equation solver... so the structure should be quite similar.

Just commenting outhe the line 186 gives same error for other variables:

Is there a way to set the time before one needs to load the first "zero"

See http://paraview.org/Wiki/Plugin_HowTo#Adding_Categories_to_the_Filters_Menu

mechanism. As for the python programmable filters (the only context I
can see where adding python to the filters menu makes sense) we will
look at adding this when we get to revamping the programmable filter

Thanks! Maybe, a simple mechanism to group macros is by defining the
group name in the macro name itself or just add additional
sub-directories in the ./config/Paraview/Macros directory.

I found a similar posting:

there o bug for it so far?

My current workaround is to extract BLocks (from EnsightReader) and
numbering them using Python functinality:

dict ={}
source = GetActiveSource()
if not source:
raise RuntimeError, "This macro needs an active pipeline object"
source.UpdatePipeline()
cdi = source.GetDataInformation().GetCompositeDataInformation()
blocks = cdi.GetNumberOfChildren()
for i in range(blocks):
 dict.update(cdi.GetDataInformation(i) : i+1)

Afterwards dictionary dict contains name of the block and its according
index. However it only works if:

* Blocks are numbered starting from one without spaces

This was the case for all my tests so far. Is this always right?

I am working with Paraview 3.6.2 and the Trace did not help me much for this.
Where do I get some more documentation than in the wiki? Thanks.

Yes, I attached the error messages (using pvpython and running the
script from the gui) and scripts; the original state file pvsm works
fine. The script 'test.py' (with two different error messages
testError*) is the one, which was saved as a state file and
'pyCalculator.py' (errormsg.txt) the one which was created using 'Start
trace' and 'stop trace'...

Hi Fabian,

Please remember to include the paraview mailing list when you reply.

What you report is a bug, but you can avoid it- when you open your
openfoam dataset you should check each block that you want to load
*before you hit apply for the first time*

The problem is the first time you load your data and click apply,
paraview sees a multiblock dataset containing only unstructured grid
data, so it creates an unstructured grid display. This display has
properties related to volume rendering, and these properties are
recorded in the trace script. Later you must have enabled more blocks,
so that multiblock dataset now contains unstructured grid and polydata.
When the trace script is replayed, paraview sees the unstructured grid
and polydata datasets, so it creates a geometry display instead of an
unstructured grid display. The geometry display lacks the volume
rendering properties.

Moving the lines up so they appear after the constructors of Slice1,

 Added python method

Previously all helper proxy properties were listed at the very

print "Sources: ", sources
FindSource("Slice1").SliceType.Origin = [5.0, 1.0, 1.0]
print FindSource("Slice1").SliceType.Origin

For the first test, I would like to change the Slice origin.
Unfortunately, the script gives me a segmentation fault using the
Python-Shell from within paraview and using pvpython it simply gives a
black picture.
I do not use the python trace state option as there are some settings

I've also tried to create a new reader instance with the file list as
argument, looped over all source proxies within the state file and
changed their Input property in case that were a reader. Then, created a
new animation scene in the same way as AnimateReader does it in
 Utilities/VTKPythonWrapping/paraview/servermanager.py and tried again to
loop over all files. Still not working.
Saving the state file from pvbatch and loading it into ParaView

data in PV, an issue discussed just recently here: By means of a timer,
file size or file inspection it would be easy enough to have Python
ensure the validity of an input fill, then re-execute the pipeline for
the new file, create a snapshot automatically and wait for the next file
to appear.

[Paraview] add buttons with custom filter and assign key binding

Hi,

Is there an option to add custom filters as buttons in the menu bar?
And is it possible to place custom filter into the 'common' subdirectory?
Are there plans for the future to allow some keybinding settings for the

Hi,

I would like to extract the cell volume and gradients using python
programmable filter.

Does anyone have a hint, how to do this?

Best Regards!

[Paraview] OpenFOAM reader missing in 3.8

2010-04-15 Thread Fabian Braennstroem

Hi,

I just took a look at the 3.8rc1 version for linux 64bit. Unfortunately,
I am missing the 'fast' openfoam reader. Is this a 'bug' or do I need to
compile the source to get this!?

Best Regards!

Hello,

I just tested the povray exporter for glyphs. It seems, that the

Maybe, I am missing some option during the export...
Would be nice, if you have a hint, how to export to povray using paraview!

Thanks in advance!

Hi group,

I tried creating some surface streamlines as described in the wiki.
Process seemed to work but was extremly slow for me so I could not wait it.
I have large CFD models imported as ensight (~ 20 Million cells).
Paraview run for about five hours without an result for surface
streamlines from 50 seed points. I don't really know if this is normal?
