Converting a Wav file to an Audio file

2004-06-17 Thread Roger Fordham
Hi,

I have a wav file on my hard disk, which I want to be able to play on a normal cd
player. So it needs to be converted to an Audio Cd file. I have Nero 5.5, Windows XP
Home, and writable Cd drives. I should be very grateful if someone could write me
[off-list if preferred], telling me what I must do to accomplish my task.

With thanks

Re: wav to mid

2004-06-17 Thread Jerry Richer
Hamish! Actually there was a program to convert a wav file to a midi
file a couple of years ago. I don't know how far it ever got. It's a huge
problem. Converting one instruments one note at a time is easy with most
instruments but to take a piece of music performed by a group and convert it
to midi is a very big job. To write such a computer program would take a
very clever person.
Wave files and MIDI files are two entirely different things. Think of
a wave file as a cake and think of a midi file as the recipe for the cake.
A midi file is just instructions telling an instrument what note to play,
when to play it, how hard to play it, when to release it, what instrument
sound to play for the note etc.

Re: Converting a Wav file to an Audio file

2004-06-17 Thread Chris Skarstad
Hi Roger
A wav file *is* an audio file.
what you want to do is open Nero and run the nero wizzard.
Check the appropriate radio button foran audio cd and that should get you
going. Next copy your wav file to the windows clipboard by focusing on it
and pressing control plus c. Then go back into your Nero compilation
window and press control plus v to paste it in there. do the same
proceedure for any other files you want to put on the cd. Then go to the
file menu and press enter on write cd... or just press the letter w. then
press the burn button and let the cd burner do it's thing.
Hope this helps.

Re: First time burning a CD

2004-06-17 Thread Georges Doura
david,

R1: For some updated program like Raxio 4 or more, you don't need to change
mp3 file to wav before it's automaticly done.
R2: To make sure they are inother you want, mumerize them with 01 for the
first track 02 and so on. Don't copy more track the CD can take.
R3 The space from track to track will automaticly be there.
It is important to finalize the cd so it will play automaticly on any cd
player.
I've done many time successfully

Hope that's help.

 2. What is the easiest way to copy these .wav files to the CD drive while

 4. Is the first file automatically placed at the physical start of the CD?

 5. Once I have completed copying these files to the CD, do I need to do
anything else to complete the job?

I hope these questions make sense.

 Thanks a lot in advance!

Re: First time burning a CD

2004-06-17 Thread nick danger
Hi David,

I don't know anything about goldwave but I can help you with the nero rom
burner. This is gonna be a lengthy post so from the door forgive me my
fellow listers.

Let's take em one at a time.

1. How can I quickly convert all these files from .mp3 to .wav format,
without doing this one file at a time?

If your version of nero is beyond 5.0, the files by default will be saved
as mp3's. If you are using a standard cd/r blank disk, nero will
automatically save the files in a standard cda format so no conversion is
necessary. If you need an encoder, you can grab it from
http://www.nero.com/plugins for $15 or if you want it on a floppy disk it's
gonna run $30. Personally, Grab it for 15 and toss it on one of your own
disks.

For converting the wav files to mp3.

First, press alt-x to open the extras menu. The first choice is the file
encoding option. Press enter to open the file encoding dialog box. Before
we get into the procedure, here's a look at what's inside.

There are 3 main controls in the box. The first control is the jobs
listbox. The next control is the add dialog box; and the third is the
cancel button. To convert the files, press tab once to get to the add dialog
box and press enter to open it. The dialog box that opens is very similar to
the open dialog box of any other windows application. Choose the location of
the wavs you want to convert and once you have them selected tab over to the
open button and press space on it. Nero automatically adds the files to the
jobs list.

Next, if you have additional files in different folders, you can add them to
the jobs list in the same manner described above. If there aren't any files
to add, press tab 5 times to reach the target file combo box. Press
alt-down arrow to open the list, then arrow down twice to the mp3 option
then press tab twice to the go button and press space on it.

Panic button:

Sometimes, nero doesn't automatically select all of the files in the jobs
listbox and lets you know that the source and target files are the same and
ask you if you want to skip the file. If this happens, don't panic, hit the
escape key to close this dialog box, tab to the jobs listbox and highlight
all of the files in there before you choose the target files format. Once
all of the files are selected, tab around to the target file combo box and
choose MP3; then tab to the go button and press enter on it. The encoding
will commence.

From this point, nero will convert the files to the desired format.
Depending on the amount of files that have to be encoded, this can take
anywhere from a few minutes to 2 and a half hours. Conversion only moves at
1x speed so if you have other things to do, you might as well do them. When
the procedure completes, press tab once to the cancel button; then, go to
the directory where your audio tracks are stored and delete the wav files.
Depending on their size, some of them may be to large for the recycle bin
and you'll be given the option to permanently delete them. The default
button here is yes hit space on it and it's done.

2. What is the easiest way to copy these .wav files to the CD drive while
keeping them in a specific order?

You may want to order the tracks numerically making track 1 the first track
and track 12 the last.

3. If I copy them one file at a time, are they automatically copied so
that there is minimal space or gap between the files?

This is tricky because it depends on the type of cd-rom burner you have.
Mine doesn't allow me to connect tracks so I'm always going to end up with a
2-second gap between them. If your burner allows it you can go into the
editable proprties box and set the pause to 0 seconds between tracks.

Hopefully I've not drowed yall in to much info here and that all of this
makes sense.

Tony

what is the dsp stacker, and do I need it to shoutcast?

2004-06-17 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi all, I've tried, over and over asking these type of questions on
another list, and have gotten no responses, so, I need to ask again,
and hopefully, somebody can help me. I can shoutcast, but I was using
winamp 2.92, shoutcast 1.80, the shoutcast server 1.92 server, the sqr
cross fader 1.65, and the audio stocker plugin, but, during the main
menu tutorials that Jonathan Mosen presented on shoutcasting, he
mentioned pairing up the shoutcast, and the audio stocker plugins, and
when I had winamp 5.01, I tried the basic means of shoutcasting, but
having the shoutcast plugin second in command, but as long as the
shoutcast plugin was second in command, I couldn't use the linerec
plugin, even though it would show up in the title bar, and I could hear
my voice on the mic, my voice didn't go out over the air, and my
question is, that somebody had said, you need the dsp stacker for this
to work, and my question is, if this is true, first, during the
tutorial, why wasn't this problem brought up, if, in fact, the linerec
plugin wouldn't work without the dsp stacker, or, is it that the only
stacking necessary is done by the pairing of the shoutcast plugin, and
the shoutcast muxer.dll? I have just installed winamp 5.03A, with all
the settings intact, but I don't know if I'm setting up these plugins
correctly, because, when I would try to close winamp, after
broadcasting, I'd always get an illegal operations message, so maybe
the shoutcast plugin was trying to hang on, or something like that. I
don't use sam encoders, or the thomas limiter, or anything like that,
and am using one instance of winamp right now, so, here is what I do.
First, I select the audio stocker plugin from the dsp plugins, then
from the output plugins, I select the sqr soft cross fader, then go to
configure, and then, focus on the tab control, and right arrow over to
dsp, and from the list view after the combo box, I select s for
shoutcast, which puts it at the bottom of the list, and then the
shoutcast plugin comes up, I can go in to the shoutcast plugin from the
system tray, provided the shoutcast server is up, and press the connect
button, but when I left click to kill the shoutcast server, and say yes
to close it, then, when I try to turn off everything off in winamp, and
close it, that's when I get the illegal operations message, but all it
says is, winamp caused an invallid page fault in module unknown, which
doesn't help much, so, am I doing something incorrectly in setting up
these plugins, or what? Also, I have noticed, that when the shoutcast
plugin is second in command, when ever I start winamp, the shoutcast
plugin comes up in the system tray, even though no dsp plugins are
selected, and even though the waveout.dll plugin is selected in the
output plugins, and why is this? I ask this, because, while the
shoutcast plugin comes up when winamp starts, this causes a focus
problem, whereby when I close winamp, I don't land back in the folder
that's opened when I close winamp, after listening to something,
instead, I end up on the task bar, so, I need to turn everything off
after shoutcasting. Hopefully, with winamp 5.03A, I won't have this
problem, but don't know, things may be worse. All this, with
window-eyes 4.5sp3, windows 98 se, and winamp 2.92, though I don't know
if this problem will still occurr with winamp 5.03A, and right now, I
have my sounds and filters enabled, and the advanced controls and what
you hear checked, so I can't broadcast, without my sounds coming
through, and wish, in the shoutcast plugin, that there would be an
option, that said, disable system sounds when the shoutcast plugin is
running, because going through and disabling my filters is a pain.
Thanks for reading, but I want my system to behave propperly. I also
am using 192 megs of ram, and a 400 megs processor, if this helps also.

burning gapless cds?

2004-06-17 Thread hank smith
hello I am running in to a strange cd burning problem. I experience this
when ever I burn, mp3's wma's or purchased real audio music files threw the
real audio store. I set the burning software (nero) for mp3's and wmas) to
0 pauses between tracks, (do not add gaps) in between tracks with realplayer
but I still get little gaps in between tracks. I can't be having this when
my albums are supposed to make a smooth transision in to each other as far
as the songs are concerned.
does any one know how to fix this really anoying problem?
thanks
hank

Shawn,

Thanks much. That answered all my questions. I may check it out strictly
for voice chat.

Hi Rick, skype works fine with Window Eyes, the text
instant messages don't automatically read like in MSN,
and when someone first i m's you or adds you to their
contact list, it steals your focus from where ever you
were at the time, but at least you know about the new
window that way. I have yahoo messenger
i.d kb7clx
msn messenger

AIM

and skype
skype name kb7clx
all running happily at once with window eyes 4.5sp1

try voice chat on more than 1 at a time though, lol.

Thanks for the info. Will Skype and Messenger

it work well with Window Eyes? I may consider
 keeping Messenger for text

Hi Rick I wouldn't use Skype for text chatting. Stay
 with messenger. Skype
is a Phone program that allows people to chat over
 the internet in real
 time.

automatically reading incoming text messages. Does
 this happen with Skype

 reviewing the screen?

Also, can Skype be run along side Messenger?

Currently, I don't have a microphone connected to

strictly use text chatting between here and my

works great for that, but I am always open to

 Skype's strong point

 this easier to

I don't want to take a step backwards in text chat

 the scoop?

Re: what is the dsp stacker, and do I need it to shoutcast?

Hello Marty. The dsp stacker is only used if you want to chain more
than one dsp effect. For example, if you want to run a
compressor/limiter and then broadcast to the internet a dsp stacker
would help you in this case. You would choose the stacker as winamp's
dsp effect. Then you configure the dsp stacker with the dsp plugins in
the order of processing. You obviously would want to compress your
audio before sending it over the internet so you would have a compressor
first then the plugin which sends it out to the net. You could for
example have the audio stalker plugin first then the sam encoders
second.

The dsp stacker from Spacial Audio works great with Window-Eyes, not
sure about jfw though. With Window-eyes I had to label the add remove
move up/down graphics though. I imagine you would need to do something
similar in jfw.

RE: Sound forge 7

2004-06-17 Thread louie
Baby Fire Ray,
I am ripping talking tape books that I get from the Seattle talking book
and brail library.
Here is what you do using sound forage and a normal speed tape player.
1 Open a new window set the sample rate to 88200, 16 bit depth stereo.
2 Make sure that the tape player is playing in stereo.
3 Record the tape.
4 After recording do a select all .
5 Tap this will select the left channal.
6 copy the left channel to the clip board.
7 open a new windo 88200, 16 mono.
8 copy to the new window.
9 Set the sample rate to 44100 bit 16 depth.
10 Check the check box that sez set the sample rate only do not re
sample.
11 save the file.
12 Now do the same for the right channel.
12 You will need to reverse the right channel.

Re: Sound forge 7

2004-06-17 Thread Steve Pattison
This could be caused by a bug in Sound Forge 7.0 which has been fixed
in 7.0a. Here is a quote from the information about bug fixes in in
Sound Forge 7.0a: A bug that could cause CPU utilization to reach
100% during normal playback has been
fixed. Anyone with a registered copy of Sound Forge 7.0 can install
Sound Forge 7.0a for free.
