Re: Goldwave jumping (I think)

2004-09-08 Thread Joe Paton
Hi Morey,
I think what you may have achieved is to have removed what goldwave thinks
as clicks and cracks from the whole sound file. What you need to do is
select the areas where there are crackles and apply the effect to those
specific areas.

HTH good luck.

Hello all,
Using Goldwave 5.08 for the first time. I followed many tips on this list
and went through all the menus before trying anything. I copied a LP album
to my computer and then did the following. After loading the album in
Goldwave, I went to install Q-Points between songs to make them all
seperate tracks. This was accomplished with no problem.
I then tried playing one of the tracks and all of them kind of had a very
fast echo in every word or note played.
It is so fast that it sounds like everything is breaking up very fast.
The only thing I checked in the effects menu, was to remove any cracks and
blips or whatever it was.
Any suggestions on where I went wrong?
Thanks,
Morey

Simon, I think you can set the threshold for the automatic pause

  split the file manually.

I don't know about 5.08, but with 4.26 I have to set a
length limit of how long a click or pop should be
before it is ignored. If you set it for to long a
time, it will do weird things to your file.

  Hi Morey,

I think what you may have achieved is to have
 removed what goldwave thinks
as clicks and cracks from the whole sound file.
What you need to do is
select the areas where there are crackles and
 apply the effect to those
  specific areas.

  HTH good luck.

  Hello all,
Using Goldwave 5.08 for the first time. I
followed many tips on this list
and went through all the menus before trying
 anything. I copied a LP
 album
to my computer and then did the following. After
 loading the album in
Goldwave, I went to install Q-Points between
 songs to make them all
seperate tracks. This was accomplished with no
 problem.
I then tried playing one of the tracks and all of
them kind of had a very
fast echo in every word or note played.
It is so fast that it sounds like everything is
 breaking up very fast.
The only thing I checked in the effects menu, was
 to remove any cracks
 and
  blips or whatever it was.
Any suggestions on where I went wrong?
  Thanks,
  Morey

Goldwave Play Problem revisited

2004-09-08 Thread Morey Worthington
Hello all,
Back to Playing tracks in Goldwave 5.08
Using Soundblaster Live card on a 2.2 GB Processor.
If I start to play any file in Goldwave, it sounds like a real fast
helicopter is going on all the time. If I go back to Winamp and play this
same file, it sounds very good.
I swear I have not changed any effects at all.
As in a prior post, there was a reference to not changing the whole file
while removing Pops, but to only remove certain parts of the file. This
helicopter sound occurs while playing any file, not just the one that I
removed the Pops.
I have gone into the effects, and removed the helicopter sound in the
Mechanism or whatever that setting was called, but no difference.
Any suggestions on how to remove this problem?
Thanks,
Morey

I now feel as if I must respond to this thread. The company in question,
Premier Programming, in my opinion, has created some incredibly inexpensive
software, some that are self-voicing and some meant to be used specifically
with screen reading software.
Their highly personable and responsive tech support, along with the quality
of their programs has been excellent. Most of the programs that they have
produced have demos that may be downloaded. Since CD ripping/burning
software can be a challenge, I applaud the effort and will purchase the
program, demo or not.

Re: mp3 direct cut?

2004-09-08 Thread Michael Lang
Simon, here are some shortcuts, which I compiled for aprevious message.
Hope this helps.

One can rewind and fast forward using
cursor left and right or page-up and page-down. The latter two keys move
faster than the first two. How many frames each pair moves can be set
via the menu system.

b: Marks the beginning of a selection

n: marks the end of a selection

Note, that one can have several selections simultaniously in one file.
To activate a specific selection, one can use the menu system of
Mp3DirectCut.

The following commands use the numbers row above the letter keys, not
the numeric keypad on the right side of the keyboard. These commands move
by frame. One frame is about a 38th of a second:

1: Move the left margin of a selection one frame to the left

2: Move the left margin of a selection one frame to the right

3: Move the right margin of a selection one frame to the left

4: Move the right margin of a selection one frame to the right

With the following keys, one can exactly hear, where the margins of a
selection are:

F5: Plays the two seconds before the left margin of a selection

F6: Plays the first two seconds of a selection

F7: Plays the last two seconds of a selection

F8: Plays the two seconds after the right margin of a selection

F9: Plays the file around the selection as if the block had been cut out

To cut a selection one can press the delete key. This does not touch the
MP3 file. It just modifies an MP3DirectCut index. Therefore, cuts
can be made quickly.

There are also menu options and shortcut keys to save a selection into a
different file.

To split an MP3 file, which consists of a complete album, one can use
the pause detection feature, which can be reached via the menu system.
It will set a marker before each song. These markers are actually
selections with a length of zero. To check the markers, one can go from
one to the other with Control cursor right and Control cursor left. The
file can then be split according to the markers. Or one can save a cue
sheet file or an MP3 DirectCut project file. Both would contain the
markers. With these marker files, one can easily find certain positions
in an MP3 file.

To go to a specific time position, Control-p can be used. The edit box
is a bit strange, don't delete the words in it, just modify the file
position. One has to leave the apostrophes, which seperate hours minutes
and seconds alone. The program needs these apostrophes

Then, there are the recording shortcuts, which I mentioned in my first
message about MP3DirectCut:

r: Opens the record dialog, in which sighted people can adjust the
recording level

p: Starts the recording, when the recording dialog is open

As much as I know, there's no pause function in the program.

s: Stops the recording.

I don't think they are trying to rip blind people off since their mission is
creating accessible software for the blind, however if I were handling their
marketing I would make sure I released a demo the same time I released the
product. Because accessible software sometimes isn't as accessible as it
could be or sometimes it has unintended consequences to your system, I and I
would guess a lot of other people would wan't to try it first, not just buy
it because some one says it is made for the blind.

Selecting and cutting audio in adobe audition

2004-09-08 Thread Quantum Technology Support
Hi all,

Any adobe audition experts out there that can help with this one?

When using Adobe Audition, I press F6 to bring up the selection dialog and
type in a selection point. If I press cut or copy, Jaws tells me there is no
text selected and pasting it somewhere else confirms that my selection
hasn't been copied to the clipboard. How ever if I press play, only the
selected portion is played. So how can I cut or copy or move the selected
portion of audio.

Thanks in advance,
Brett.
