Hi Larry.
I've been messing about with GoldWave for a few months and as it happens,
I'm getting reasonably good at splitting long mp3 files. If you wish I
can
talk you through it, but first, can you tell me which version of
GoldWaveyou
are using and whither you have downloaded the scripts for GW and JAWS?

Best wishes.

Hey Janet and thanks. As it happens I have Goldwave but haven't been able
to
figure out how to split files with it. I can trim them by pressing
shift+e,
tabbing to the beginning and end points of the file, entering times for
beginning and end and then pressing control+t to trim the file. However,
if
I did that with this one by indicating the beginning and end of the first
track and then pressed control+t, I would lose the remainder of the file,
which in this case would be numerous tracks. I do believe that the
process
for splitting tracks may be similar to what I've described here, but I
can't
figure out the necessary steps.

Kazaa Lite

2004-09-22 Thread Jim Portillo
Hi there,
I'm having a problem with Kazaa lite, and I'm not sure how to solve it.

I've been looking for a particular song and also music from a particular artist.
Well, when I seem to find what I'm looking for, I go ahead and download it. It ends
up downloading something totally different.
However, if I try and download something else off of the same list of choices, it will
download that same file again. If I do it again, that same file that was originally
downloaded would download again. Sometimes, it's not even close to the thing I was
originally wanting to download.
What is up with this? Any solutions?

Re: Kazaa Lite

2004-09-22 Thread RQJ
Hi Jim,
Part of the problem you are experiencing, are the people uploading files.
I have found that alot of the people have found songs on the internet, or
somewhere else,
and have these songs on their computer, but don't know who the correct
artist is, or what the actual title of the song is.
So they give the song the title they think is right, or put the artist name
to it that they think might be right.
Now, to add to the mix some might go as far as to use some of this software,
that will search the internet for the imformation ,
associated with the song that is currently playing on their computer.
And the problem with that is, it seems to be maintained with the same
standards you find with Kazaa.
And to top things off some songs have been poorley recorded by individuals
that don't know how!
As to the second problem, as I remember I had to go into the tools menu, and
select, "clear all downloads as interonious", or something that sounds
similar.
I used to have the same problems you are describing, that's why I quit using
Kazaa, well, that and I demand better quality for music.
I would rather go to a sight and pay for my music, that way I stand a better
chance of getting what I'm looking for.
Ieven tried out WalMart, on-line, the price wasn't bad, and I actually found
what I was looking for.
Just remember if it's free, you get what you pay for.
The price doesn't just reflect the production of the music, and the media
it's on, and the royalties that go to the artist,
it also assures the consumer that that they are getting what they are paying
for.

Hi Andy. I would sure appreciate the help here. I'm running Goldwave 5.08
and I don't have scripts. If they're available I haven't yet found them.
Then again, nothing I've done has yet required them, so I haven't looked all
that hard. I'm running both Jaws 5.1 and the latest version of WindowEyes.
I'd appreciate any suggestions here.

Thanks,

Larry

Re: sequencing software

2004-09-22 Thread Jerry Richer
Dean! Sonar by Cakewalk is really
what most of the professionals are using for sequencing on Windows systems.
Input music different ways both through audio and through MIDI, no need for
a MIDI keyboard. There are a couple of options but
we're talking about a serious financial investment starting at $349.00 then
another $289.00 for JFW scripts to make it friendly. Some people use it
with Window Eyes right out of the box. Check out Sonar at

screen reader users using Sonar both professionally and as a hobby who are
anxious to bring you up to speed on it. To get

Re: splitting a large wave file into smaller files

2004-09-22 Thread Kevin Lloyd
If you're wanting to split MP3 files, you could use MP3CLIP to do this.

MP3CLIP is freeware and is relatively straightforward to use.

I've pasted some notes below that some may find helpful.

Using MP3CLIP to split an MP3 file

1. Start the track you wish to split in Winamp
2. Pause the track at the point you would like to split the file by pressing
C
3. Start MP3CLIP
4. Tab to the load button and press enter to open the source file dialogue
5. Use the combo boxes to locate the MP3 file you wish to split in the same
way you'd locate a document in Microsoft Word for example
6. Tab to the open button and press enter; the source file is now loaded
7. You will now be returned back to the main dialogue; tab to the set button
and press enter to open the dialogue
8. Enter the file name you would like the resulting files to be prefixed
with. For example, if you enter the name Fred then the file before the
split will be called Fred0 and the file following the split will be called
Fred1
9. Press enter to confirm the file names you chose
10. You will again be returned back to the main dialogue
11. Tab to the grab winamp time button and press enter
12. Now tab until you reach the add time button; press enter to add the time
that's just been grabbed from winamp
13. Tab to the start button and press enter
14. Press enter to start the split process
15. In a few seconds time you will have two files split from the original
file based on the pause you set in winamp

Hi Sun Sparkle.

Can you tell me if you are a JAWS or Windoweyes user, whither or not you
have downloaded scripts for GoldWave and which version of GW you have.

Best wishes.

Hi again Larry.

GoldWave seems to run straight off the shelf, though there are scripts
available and they are free. They were created by Jim Bauer and you can
download them from the following address.
http://jbauer.port5.com/

If you experience difficulty setting them up, please contact me. Get in
touch when you are ready to start eh?

Best wishes.

Jim! If you're doing serious music and audio work involving the need
for low latency then you should know that many people would agree that you
should stay away from any Sound Blaster products.

2. Pause the track at the point you would like to split the file by
pressing
C
3. Start MP3CLIP
4. Tab to the load button and press enter to open the source file dialogue
5. Use the combo boxes to locate the MP3 file you wish to split in the
same
way you'd locate a document in Microsoft Word for example
6. Tab to the open button and press enter; the source file is now loaded
7. You will now be returned back to the main dialogue; tab to the set
button
and press enter to open the dialogue
12. Now tab until you reach the add time button; press enter to add the
time
that's just been grabbed from winamp
13. Tab to the start button and press enter
14. Press enter to start the split process
15. In a few seconds time you will have two files split from the original
file based on the pause you set in winamp

Re: SoundBlaster Audigy question.

2004-09-22 Thread Jerry Richer
Sun Sparkle! The reason is "low latency". This won't be a problem
with most every day users. If I have a MIDI keyboard and some software
music synthesizer running and I press a note on the keyboard, with a low
latency card such as Sound Blaster devices it may take .5 or more seconds
for a sound to be heard. It's unacceptable for people trying to create
music. The sound should be heard within a few milliseconds.
