CDEX, CDDB

2004-11-15 Thread stever2525
It has been mentioned that there is more than one CDDB site. Is there any
way when CDEX doesn't have the information available, but I find it with
Roxio, or Winamp, etc, is there anyway I can access the alternate CDDB sites
and have it apply using CDEX, so I don't have to burn a CD with one of the
other programs, then rip using CDEX. That works, but there's got to be an
easier way.
   thank you

FOOBAR 2000

2004-11-15 Thread Andre van Deventer
Hi all

Below is some info on the three versions of foobar 2000 from their website
at
www.foobar.org

The player is extremely screen reader friendly. Somewhere in the options
there are actually some options to do with screen readers specifically. You
do not even need any scripts for it. All I can think of is that whoever
wrote this software is either blind but also knows something about visually
impaired persons, otherwise why the options for screen readers specifically?

It also seems to be continually updated.

Many of the info listed below is completely incomprehensible to me but it
may make sense to you. I downloaded the special version myself. I have
used both Winamp and Foobar and I would not easily go back to winamp.

Winamp is an excellent product, but I always feel it is worth taking note of
other developments also.

Below is the copied text from the website.

the special one can burnCD's also.

Ann! Removing vocals is only partially successful and depends on the
vocals being centered in a stereo image. Since most of the instrumentation

I'm using FAT32. Often I use Sound Forge to record at 1125 samples per

problem. A couple of weeks ago Sound Forge started stopping at 3 hours and
22 minutes. It won't record for longer than this. I don't know what
happened.

Thanks, Harry, and Rob. Unfortunately, I don't have anything in my volume
properties called system mixer, or stereo, even though I think that I
might
have had it several reformattings ago. What shows up is the following: cd
audio, line in, and microphone. Would a new sound card solve the problem,
or is it the machine that I have - an hp? Thoughts are most welcome.

From an article on the Betanews site:
Death Knell Sounds for Nullsoft, Winamp
By
Nate Mook
, BetaNews
November 10, 2004, 1:26 PM
The last members of the original Winamp team have said goodbye to AOL
and
the door
has all but shut on the Nullsoft era, BetaNews has learned.
Only a few employees remain to prop up the once-ubiquitous digital
audio
player with
minor updates, but no further improvements to Winamp are expected.
\
Winamp's demise comes as no surprise to those close to the company
who
say
the software
has been on life support since the resignation of Nullsoft founder
and
Winamp creator
Justin Frankel last January.
The marriage of Nullsoft and AOL was always one of discontent. After
AOL
acquired
the small company in 1999 for around $100 million, the young team of
Winamp developers
was assimilated into a strict corporate culture that begged for
rebellion.
Although
Nullsoft was initially given a long leash by AOL, It wasn't long
until
the
two ideologies
collided.
Frankel and his team were accustomed to simply brainstorming ideas
over
coffee and
bringing them to the masses without approval. So when Frankel and
fellow
Nullsoft
developer Tom Pepper devised a decentralized peer-to-peer file
sharing
system, dubbed
Gnutella, parent AOL was left in the dark.
Gnutella was unveiled
in March 2000, much to the chagrin of an unprepared AOL; executives
feared
the program
would encourage copyright infringement and damage the company's
pending
merger with
Time Warner. AOL quickly clamped down on Gnutella, but not before the
software's
source code leaked. Gnutella-based alternatives soon followed,
igniting
a
peer-to-peer
land grab that has yet to subside.
But AOL knew it had to protect its investment and turn a profit from
the
freely available
Winamp. Frankel and crew found themselves in hot water numerous
times,
but
always
escaped with little more than a proverbial slap on the wrist.
However, growing displeasure reached a boiling point with Nullsoft's
unsanctioned
release

Hi all
Below is some info on the three versions of foobar 2000 from their website
at
www.foobar.org
The player is extremely screen reader friendly. Somewhere in the options
there are actually some options to do with screen readers specifically.
You
do not even need any scripts for it. All I can think of is that whoever
wrote this software is either blind but also knows something about
visually
impaired persons, otherwise why the options for screen readers
specifically?

It also seems to be continually updated.
Many of the info listed below is completely incomprehensible to me but it
may make sense to you. I downloaded the special version myself. I have
used both Winamp and Foobar and I would not easily go back to winamp.
Winamp is an excellent product, but I always feel it is worth taking note
of
other developments also.

Frank, yes this is exactly what it's supposed to do and it's done it this
way before. But now it just says 1 of 10 or whatever and when you arrow
down it doesn't read 2, 3, etc. In other words it reads the numbered
track you're on but you can't scroll through the whole track list to see
what's checked or not. When the c.d. is almost finished copying only then
can you see every song in your list and what's checked or unchecked. But
during most of the copying you only see the song you're on.

Looks good, but it doesn't go to Gracenote, it gets info from Freedb. It is
a pity there is no program that allows you to check both databases.

Re: Best CD Ripper

2004-11-15 Thread Bruce Toews
Basically, I just remember that when you start out, nothing is selected.
Extracting at that point will extract the whole CD. If I hit spacebar on
any given track it selects it, and extracting at that point will extract
all tracks. Just a little memory work.

Hi Bruce

I simply like the feel of the thing more than winamp. I like the way you
can work with the menus or shortcuts whichever you choose.

I am always careful about recommending things to people! It does what I
want it to do. It feels more like a windows programme to me than winamp.
The best thing may be to try to use it and see what happens.

Re: CDEX, CDDB

2004-11-15 Thread Kevin Lloyd
In the remote CDDB tab of CDEX there is a query sites button that will scan
for all CDDB sites and add them to the available list. I don't know exactly
what criteria it uses but it added over 20 sites when I was looking at it.
May be worth you taking a look at this.

It has been mentioned that there is more than one CDDB site. Is there any
way when CDEX doesn't have the information available, but I find it with
Roxio, or Winamp, etc, is there anyway I can access the alternate CDDB
sites
and have it apply using CDEX, so I don't have to burn a CD with one of the
other programs, then rip using CDEX. That works, but there's got to be an
 easier way.
 thank you

Hi all

Below is some info on the three versions of foobar 2000 from their website
at www.foobar.org

I am bogged down with stupid ads and flash presentations.
What canI modify to stop this junk and get directly to my stations?
Also will RealOne work well with Microsoft s P 2?
A list of which settings to change or eliminate could be super helpful.
Many thanks.

There is actually a special version of Foobar which can do much more than
the standard one. Which one do you have. As far as I can understand it,
the special one can burnCD's also.

Problems when recording from goldwave.

2004-11-15 Thread Anders Holmberg
Hello!
¨Tonight i recroded a radio show here in sweden with goldwave.
But when i tried to listen to it i can't hear anything.
I have checked the recording tab and the volume tab but there seem to be no
matter there.
I have it set to record from wave/mp3 at volume 50.
I did not hade timer or level activated items checked.
Its a very big file so i don't understand what went wrong.
The only thing i know i have been changing is in the windows sound control.
the advanced recording settings.
I have set te two items there to 100%.
I don't know what you call these settings in english as i use a swediswh
windows 2000.
i have a sb live sound canrd installed.
Any suggestion would be very appreciated.
THanks in advance.

Is it continually under development? If it is not, then we're in the same
situation as with Winamp. What about plugins for cross-fading and sound
normalization and other things? Which formats can it support? Why has no
one been talking about it until now?

The last members of the original Winamp team have said goodbye to
AOL
  and
  the door
has all but shut on the Nullsoft era, BetaNews has learned.

I couldn't get the list of what was and was not copied to come up in
windows media 10, either. I finally did manage to get a list of sorts by
tabbing to stop rip pressing the tab key once, to where it says list.
Then, I hold down the control key and press the down arrow. You get a list
of sorts; it gives you all kinds of extraneous junk, but it will actually
tell you which songs are unchecked. It's new and improved, which means
that it doesn't work as well as before, so I suppose one could always
return to 9.0, but it had its problems as well.
Thanks.

The last members of the original Winamp team have said goodbye to
  AOL
  and
  the door
has all but shut on the Nullsoft era, BetaNews has learned.
AOL quickly clamped down on Gnutella, but not before
  the
  software's
source code leaked. Gnutella-based alternatives soon followed,
igniting
  a
  peer-to-peer
land grab that has yet to subside.
But AOL knew it had to protect its investment and turn a profit from
  the
  freely available
Winamp. Frankel and crew found themselves in hot water numerous
times,
  but
  always
escaped with little more than a proverbial slap on the wrist.
However, growing displeasure reached a boiling point with Nullsoft's
  unsanctioned
  release of WASTE
-- an encrypted file-sharing network -- in June 2003. Frankel
  threatened
  to resign
  after AOL
  removed WASTE
, but remained with the company long enough to finish Winamp 5.0.
Frankel's departure followed AOL layoffs and the closure of
Nullsoft's
  San
  Francisco
  offices in December 2003.
With AOL struggling to stave off declining subscriber numbers and
  700 additional layoffs
planned for next month, the company's focus has shifted away from
  supporting acquisitions
  such as Winamp.
Despite the somber farewell, Nullsoft's former masterminds are proud

  Hi Kevin.

I don't have this exact model but I do have a creative jukebox 2.
 The
intuitive scroll wheel sounds like the wheel that's also on the
 side of
 the
  jukebox 2.

I must admit that I wouldn't like to use this wheel to do a lot
 of
navigation. Basically, it's a jog wheel that you can move up and
 down to
move through the menu selections and then press it in to select
 the option
  you're looking for.

On the plus side for the creative players, there's a great piece
 of
 software
called notmad explorer that will give you complete access to the
 player
 when
it's connected to your computer. This software will allow you to
 easily
transfer music both to and from the creative MP3 player and it
 will allow
you to create playlists plus a few other very useful functions.
 This is
 how
I tend to use mine most often. I create the playlist whilst the
 player is
connected to my computer and then take it away to enjoy while on
 the move.
You could create a number of playlists and be able to navigate
 them using
the scroll wheel but it can be a little hit and miss. Once you've
 started
playing the playlist, you can use the dedicated buttons on the
 front of
 the
player to move to next or previous tracks in the playlist. You
 could do
this also if you were in an album to move from track to track if
 you are
 not
  in the playlist menu.

So, really, it depends on how you intend to use your player. If
 you're
using it in the same way, to create large playlists to listen to
 pretty
 much
as you've created them when connected to your computer, you won't
 find it
too bad. However, if you were constantly wanting to browse
 through the
lists of artists, albums and tracks, it will be more of a
 challenge.

  Regards.

visible, press Alt+3.
2. From the Special menu, choose Playlist/Cutlist, and then choose Delete
from the submenu.

With a region selected in the Playlist/Cutlist window, press the Delete key.

Its a very big file so i don't understand what went wrong.
The only thing i know i have been changing is in the windows sound control.
the advanced recording settings.
I have set te two items there to 100%.
I don't know what you call these settings in english as i use a swediswh

i have a sb live sound canrd installed.
Any suggestion would be very appreciated.
THanks in advance.

I couldn't get the list of what was and was not copied to come up in
windows media 10, either. I finally did manage to get a list of sorts by
tabbing to stop rip pressing the tab key once, to where it says list.
Then, I hold down the control key and press the down arrow. You get a
list of sorts; it gives you all kinds of extraneous junk, but it will
actually tell you which songs are unchecked. It's new and improved,
which means that it doesn't work as well as before, so I suppose one
could always return to 9.0, but it had its problems as well.
Thanks.

Re: Deleting Regions in Sound Forge - Can it Be Done?

2004-11-15 Thread Matthew Bullis
Hello, please respond on list, as I believe others will want the answer as
well. When you're going through the file putting markers in, you can hit alt
shift m if you're using the Snowman's scripts to delete a marker. Sometimes
this doesn't work, so you'll have to undo that, but sometimes the undo is
way far back. Once the regions are in the file and the file is saved, I've
not been able to make changes to them. I have one file with a double region
at the starting point of a file, so that it makes one region .wav file as a
blank file of 0 seconds, and the rest of the .wav files are the concert
split into the tracks. I'd like to be able to delete the regions, but when
following the directions you've posted, after hitting alt 3, Jaws just says
playlist, and I don't know what to do. I close that window and look at the
playlist/cutlist menu, and delete/cut regions is unavailable. Please explain
how this can be done with no sight using screen readers, if it is possible.
Thanks a lot.
Matthew

That's why I said I am careful about recommending something to people. It
always depends on what works for your own needs. It would be interesting
to write to the developers with the queries you mention and here what they

Well, the reason I asked wasn't to undermine you. I just feel no need to
switch to another program, but at the same time if this other program is
going to give me something that Winamp doesn't, I want to know about it.
But since MP3 Pro is a very important requisite for me, that pretty much
decides it.

SKYPE REPEATING CALL DURATION UNAVAILABLE

2004-11-15 Thread Andre van Deventer
Hi all

I am very satisfied with Skype and the excellent scripts that Chriss has
written for it.

However, I have two problems.

The first one is that sometimes when you make a call or answer one, Jaws
will keep on repeating call duration unavailable and it seems impossible to
stop it. Has anyone found a way to get around this?

The second one is with the instant messaging feature. If you have a few
message exchanges, Jaws will always start reading from the top of the screen
and there seems no way just to read the message you received. Is there a
way to get around this?

Regards

Andre
