Re: Backing up mp3's onto a dvd

2005-08-01 Thread russell Bourgoin

Hi Andy,

A typical dvd holds 4.5 gigs of data.

Rusty
> At 06:28 PM 7/31/2005, Andy spake thusly:-

Hi again Rusty.

I managed to follow your instructions and successfully copied 14 albums
1.44gb of mp3's onto a blank DVD. This is excellent as I've got a lot of
stuff to back-up and it makes sense to use a larger format disk. Any idea
just how much I can get onto a DVD? Another list member advised that he
managed to get 3gb. Is this possible?

Best wishes.
Andy from sunny Kilcreggan.

Hi,

When using roxio e z cd creator 6.x, choose creator classic from
the opening menu. Navigate to the files you'd like to store onto the
dvd. Remember, you're making a data compilation, not music. Press
control t to add the selection to you dvd, either a file at a time, or a
folder at a time. You can route your mouse pointer to the bottom of the
screen, and move it up a line at a time to hear how much room remains on
the dvd. They hold 4.5 gigs of data. If you put more than 4 gigs on,
you'll get a warning message that after burning, the dvd will be
closed. I use dvd's to archive a lot of data. Whether you'll be able
to play these mp3's on a player depends on what the player supports. My
dvd player is old enough, about four years, that it will not play dvd's
or cd's that I've burned. I have players that will play mp3 cd's. I
suspect that there is, or some day will be, a player that can play any format.

Hope this helps.

Rusty
> At 06:17 AM 7/29/2005, Andy spake thusly:-

Hi Peter

I burned mp3's onto a standard cd and Simon was able to listen to the
music on his boss wave machine. I could also listen to it on my dvd
player which is under my tv. I understand that a dvd can hold mp3
tracks, but cannot get Easy CD Creator to do it for me.

Best wishes.

Mp3 music on a DVD. Now there's an idea. I imagine if this is possible then
you could perhaps contain an artists complete discography on one DVD? I'm
assuming a DVD has more than 1 Gig of space, otherwise you'd just place the
discography on a regular CD. Which is fine if you only have a
discography of
8 albums or so. But if an artists discography amounts to some 15
albums, then
a DVD with the space of perhaps 2 Gigs would certtainly be the way to
go. If
this is the way you went and you placed all of an artists discography
on one
DVD in mp3 format, could you then play that DVD on a stereo slash mp3
player?

Hmmm. Now 14 Cat Stevens mp3 albums on one DVD playing all day on one DVD
disc. Man I'd be teasing Buddha in Katmandoo with a chocolate bull at
four on

a broken morning in room C79 while I waited for the peace train. But is it
really possible to place a 15 album discography on one DVD and play it
on an

mp3 player?

Hi all.

I've converted 14 Roy Harper albums to mp3 format and would like to back
these up onto a DVD to save disks. I'm using Easy CD Creator version
6.0 and

would really welcome a step by step at how to achieve this. I've attempted
but cannot manage. I have discovered that the albums amount to 1.37gb. Is
this too large for a DVD? Any advise would be very appreciated folks.
Thanks.

Best wishes.

Hello, I really haven't found a way to mark sections of a file or delete
them, nor to line up sections. I use Sound Forge to mute the parts of tracks
I don't want. Perhaps if you e-mailed the author and told him that other
blind users are enjoying the program, then he would be willing to implement
a build with certain keystrokes. The easiest would be to use the standard
Windows selection commands. For instance, to delete everything before the
cursor, he could use control shift home and then delete, and control shift
end and then delete to delete after the cursor. He is very responsive, so
let him know the problems you're having, and see if he will work on them.
He's made special builds for me and retained the changes once I told him
that they worked, but I think he'd like to hear from someone other than
myself in the blind community.
Thanks a lot.
Matthew

Re: Cooledit questions

2005-08-01 Thread Mike Mote
I know a few of these. The best way to tell you how to do this is first,
control N opens up the menu for the new file where you select the type of
file, and such. Select Okay, and then when you're ready to record press
control plus space bar. When your done, press the space bar, and you're
done. Now editing isn't as easy. I believe you use the control and shift
plus the space bar to stop and start the wave file. Once you get to the
point you wish to edit, left bracket and right bracket are used. Press left
bracket to mark the beginning of the whatever it is you won't taken out, and
right bracket to highlight the end. Then press the delete key. Hope this
is right, and I hope it helps.

I realise this question has been asked many times before, but I need some

I am looking for an accessible MP3 player with good sound quality. It

I realise that with todays menu-driven units nothing is completely

have the same sound quality?

Actually, if you get the scripts it's possible to press F6 and type in the
time you want to start from. Even without the scripts it's possible to mouse
cursor up from the bottom of the program window and find the edit field
where you can type this (which will say "sel". The latter is a bit tedious,
but no where near as tedious as your method of arrowing through the whole
file. I recommend the scripts.

press "F" and "R" using them like cue and review on a tape recorder. You can
hear the fast chatter as it spools fast forward. Just before the edit point
you press left bracket to anchor the first edit point. If you miss it you
can rewind. Then you can use left and right arrow to make the finer
adjustments.

Hi, Mike,
Unfortunately, neither pausing the recording nor using the menu to take you
to a specified time actually puts the cursor at that point. The only way to
put the start time of the edit where wanted is to hold down the right-arrow
key for an eon, release it, and hear where you are.
Also, mif you're recording and you wanna stop and let stuff go by and
continue again, use control-space.

Re: Delta3 or Dialpad

2005-08-01 Thread Chris Skarstad
Well, I would think that Skype, Teamtalk and Ventrilo are much better and
I think would serve your purpose much better. But if you have to have
them, try doing a google search. I don't think Delta 3 or Dialpad are even
working anymore.

My first Minidisc upload

2005-08-01 Thread Michael Lang
A couple of days ago, sony released a new version of SonicStage. With
this software, one can up and download stuff from and to ATRAC devices
like MD recorders. Until this new version 3.2, one could only upload a
recording from an MD once. However with 3.2, one can upload as often as
one wants. SonicStage still isn't too accessible. Uploading is
nevertheless absolutely doable with a screen reader. As with Ad-Aware, I
can't read an important list, the list with all the tracks from the
Minidisc. But there's a menu item called select all and after one
executes it, one can try, whether it has worked by pressing F6. This
will play all the selected tracks from the Minidisc through the sound
card. One can then select a menu item to upload all selected files. I
was asked, whether I wanted to convert the uploads to Wave files and if
so, where I wanted to store them. All worked fine. A great new version
of SonicStage! Now, HIMD-Recorders are a good option, when one is
looking for a high quality audio recorder, with which one can also
upload to the PC.

Hi Folks:

I am wondering if anyone on this list knows where I can find streaming
sounds of nature; such as, rain, wind, thunder, swamps, forests, etc.

Thanks all over the place gang.

Nero 6

2005-08-01 Thread Gary Petraccaro
I'm trying to do some things I don't usually do with Nero and having some
problems:

1. I want mp3s played in a particular order. I could make a playlist and have
the names in the order I want. Could I just copy the files to the tree in the
order I want? If so, how?

2. Using Nero 6 and WE 4.54. I can open the tree view and open the particular
drive, and navigate to the folder, but I can't find the songs I want in a
folder. Any suggestions?

3. I have a cd with a particular song. The song plays fine as an .MP3 on the
computer from the hard drive, and the song plays fine when I play the cd in the
computer. When I put it in the boombox, the song has sharp clicks and other
types of effects. This has happened twice with different cds and the same
song. It's the only mp3 player I have, so I can't tell if it's this particular
player. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance as always.
