Re: A new public domain sound editor

2006-03-18 Thread Steve Pattison
Fortunately I didn't run this .EXE file but one thing that made me
very suspiscious was the fact that the file was only 149,606 bytes in
size. Even if the file was compressed in some way I doubt that the
code required for a sound editor could be contained in such a small file.

At 02:25 PM 18/03/2006, you wrote:

Hello all,
I have written a new sound-editing application called Audio Magic. It is an
alternative to Sound Forge 8, but it is in the public domain and it is
freeware. It does not yet have all of Sound Forge's features, but we are
only on the very first beta release at this point, and I would like all of
your feedback on how I could improve the interface. I am a JAWS user myself,
so I have tried to make the interface to the application as accessible as
possible. You will not need JAWS scripts to make use of the program's
features; the program will communicate it's information to JAWS without any
other files needing to be installed. This program is also a lot faster than
Sound Forge in terms of saving files, etc. It includes features such as
changing pitch, reverb, noise reduction (coming in next beta), etc. It can
currently save in MP3, WMA, OGG and Real Media formats. More support is
coming soon and people will be able to write plug-ins to support other
formats if they wish. If you would like to try it out, you can go to
http://audiomagic.roachhost.com
and download the latest beta version from there. You can read the user's
guide and other documentation after you've got the program installed.
Documentation will also be available online by the time the final product is
released. If you feel any changes need to be made to the documentation, let
me know that as well. Hope you all enjoy the program.
Thanks,
Daniel

  Ray,

Signing up with Pay Pal is fairly accessible. I say, fairly
because, and this is true of the graphical captchas themselves, the
audio characters you hear will be garbled, kind of like the
  clandestine short-wave radio stations or a twelfth-generation
cassette copy. grin But if you listen carefully, especially for
letterers like B, C, t, D etc. you will be able to sign up just fine.

I almost gave up on it at one time, but I saved the audio file and
set Winamp to repeat until I got the letters figured out.

Once you've been finalized as a Pay Pal member you will be able to
complete transactions with no problem with any screen reader.

A word about signup; what they will do is deposit a small amount,
less than a dollar if I remember correctly, into your bank
account. Once your bank accepts the transaction you will then be
validated with Pay Pal as legitimate and from then you'll be able to
take advantage of all their services.

things, an appendix which lists hot key assignments.

Well, I'm sorry if I unfairly accused an honorable person with the
handle of Jokerdog of being dishonest. I do think he might want to
give his website another name, if in fact he knows anmything about
programming. Somebody might have grabbed that name just because it
would fit what he's doing. That's sad for any legitimate person
using that handle.

I, myself, probably because of my years as a ham radio operator,
don't use any handles. In fact, there's a site where I was asked to
provide a handle. Guess what it was...Nohandles!

That's my opinion, anyway.

Re: Re[2]: Beware: AudioMagic, public domain sound editor software...

2006-03-18 Thread Larry N
Is aueio magic the full name of the item being discussed here? Wen googling
Audio Magic, I found a recorder/file splitter/file converter by the same
name. It makes no wild claims whatsoever. It is obviously not the same
program as it is being marketed as shareware. If I'm not mistaken, the
legitimate program by that name has been around for a while. An unfortunate
and unfair turn of events for the honest developer whose program bears the
same name.

problems burning cds with nero, even at low speeds

2006-03-18 Thread Tyler Wood
Hello

I use a stario to listen to music, and I have a large music collection. So, of
course, I bought a pack of 100 cds thinking they'd work fine. This stario was
known to have some reading problems--but I could usually resolve them somehow.
I burned the first cd at 8x, like usual. What came out was horrible--and I even
tried playing it on another system. It didn't play it good iether. I hear small
crackles in latter tracks and at the end the disk won't play at all. 8x is the
lowest speed nero burning rom will burn at- but I don't think that's the
problem. I'm not sure what to do- any suggestions?

thanks,
Tyler

The worst part of all this is that backup data connected via network shares

Here's an item which was posted to the blind Cool Tech list which
  should
 be
  very interesting.
  Matthew

  Hello all,
I have written a new sound-editing application called Audio Magic.
  It is
 an
alternative to Sound Forge 8, but it is in the public domain and it
is freeware. It does not yet have all of Sound Forge's features, but
we are only on the very first beta release at this point, and I
  would like all
 of
your feedback on how I could improve the interface. I am a JAWS user
 myself,
so I have tried to make the interface to the application as
  accessible
 as
possible. You will not need JAWS scripts to make use of the
program's features; the program will communicate it's information to
  JAWS without
 any
other files needing to be installed. This program is also a lot
  faster
 than
Sound Forge in terms of saving files, etc. It includes features such
as changing pitch, reverb, noise reduction (coming in next beta),
  etc. It
 can
currently save in MP3, WMA, OGG and Real Media formats. More support
is coming soon and people will be able to write plug-ins to support
other formats if they wish. If you would like to try it out, you can
go to http://audiomagic.roachhost.com and download the latest beta
version from there. You can read the user's guide and other
documentation after you've got the program installed.
Documentation will also be available online by the time the final
 product
 is
released. If you feel any changes need to be made to the
  documentation,
 let
me know that as well. Hope you all enjoy the program.
  Thanks,

Does anyone know of any good expandable flash MP3 players. This might be

On another point, would there be any point in establishing another list

Unless we're talking aout the same person, make it 2 people. I got a

Folks, be careful with this one, it sounds dangerous.

be able to restore the clean backup of my drive which fortunately

Here's an item which was posted to the blind Cool Tech list which
  should
 be
  very interesting.
  Matthew

  Hello all,
I have written a new sound-editing application called Audio Magic. It
  is
 an
alternative to Sound Forge 8, but it is in the public domain and it
  is
freeware. It does not yet have all of Sound Forge's features, but we
  are
only on the very first beta release at this point, and I would like
  all
 of
your feedback on how I could improve the interface. I am a JAWS user
 myself,
so I have tried to make the interface to the application as
  accessible
 as
possible. You will not need JAWS scripts to make use of the program's
features; the program will communicate it's information to JAWS
  without
 any
other files needing to be installed. This program is also a lot
  faster
 than
Sound Forge in terms of saving files, etc. It includes features such
  as
changing pitch, reverb, noise reduction (coming in next beta), etc.
  It
 can
currently save in MP3, WMA, OGG and Real Media formats. More support
  is
coming soon and people will be able to write plug-ins to support
  other
formats if they wish. If you would like to try it out, you can go to
  http://audiomagic.roachhost.com
and download the latest beta version from there. You can read the
  user's
guide and other documentation after you've got the program installed.
Documentation will also be available online by the time the final
 product
 is
released. If you feel any changes need to be made to the
  documentation,
 let
me know that as well. Hope you all enjoy the program.
  Thanks,
  Daniel

code required for a sound editor could be contained in such a small file.

  Thanks,
  Daniel

   Thanks,
   Daniel

Sounds like you may have a problem with your CD rewriter. You could ensure
that jitter correction is checked when burning but that aside, looks like a
bad match between your CD rewriter and the CD's you've bought.

 Hello

I use a stario to listen to music, and I have a large music collection.
So, of course, I bought a pack of 100 cds thinking they'd work fine. This
stario was known to have some reading problems--but I could usually resolve
them somehow. I burned the first cd at 8x, like usual. What came out was
horrible--and I even tried playing it on another system. It didn't play it
good iether. I hear small crackles in latter tracks and at the end the disk
won't play at all. 8x is the lowest speed nero burning rom will burn at- but
I don't think that's the problem. I'm not sure what to do- any suggestions?

 thanks,
 Tyler

Sony NWA608 MP3 player.

2006-03-18 Thread Jim Noseworthy
Hi Folks:

Anyone had any experience with the Sony NWA608 player? If so, how so. From
an operational point of view, it's realy quite friendly. The problem, it
would appear that one has to use their software to transfer music to the
player, even in MP3 format.

Looking forward to your response.

Earlier this week, I had written to the list regarding a similar Sony player
and the Sonic stage software that came with it.
I did receive some helpful responses regarding some work arounds using sonic
stage for which i was very appreciative, but it really did not provide total
control over the process of transfering and managing files on the Sony.
I really liked the player's design and sound.
But I ended up trading it in on a Sandisk two gigabyte player that allows
for transfering files via my computer or windows explorer.

That Sonic Stage software drove me nuts!

Here's an item which was posted to the blind Cool Tech list which
  should
 be
  very interesting.
  Matthew

  Hello all,
I have written a new sound-editing application called Audio Magic. It
  is
 an
alternative to Sound Forge 8, but it is in the public domain and it is
freeware. It does not yet have all of Sound Forge's features, but we
  are
only on the very first beta release at this point, and I would like
  all
 of
your feedback on how I could improve the interface. I am a JAWS user
 myself,
so I have tried to make the interface to the application as accessible
 as
possible. You will not need JAWS scripts to make use of the program's
features; the program will communicate it's information to JAWS
  without
 any
other files needing to be installed. This program is also a lot faster
 than
Sound Forge in terms of saving files, etc. It includes features such
  as
changing pitch, reverb, noise reduction (coming in next beta), etc. It
 can
currently save in MP3, WMA, OGG and Real Media formats. More support
  is
coming soon and people will be able to write plug-ins to support other
formats if they wish. If you would like to try it out, you can go to
  http://audiomagic.roachhost.com
and download the latest beta version from there. You can read the
  user's
guide and other documentation after you've got the program installed.
Documentation will also be available online by the time the final
 product
 is
released. If you feel any changes need to be made to the
  documentation,
 let
me know that as well. Hope you all enjoy the program.
  Thanks,
  Daniel

I'd like to ad here that I just downloaded this software but it came in
 way
to fast so I think it could be a Virus so I'd say bookmark his page and
drop him email to see if he is actually working on a piece of software but
I having read that it's crashed a computer I'll install it on a virtual
drive here and see what the story is. I'll report right here if it's false
software or whatever but Please be careful. I have several machines here
and since I image my drives I can test software and let you know the
 truth.
 Many of the older
members of this list will know my main menu reviews. I build my machines
from scratch and I install all the tools I need to test any software to
 see
if it's accessible for the Blind Community. I'll check this all out for
 you.
