RE: Joining MP# Files

2006-10-27 Thread Dean Martineau
For the record, I joined a couple mp3 files using the command line method,
using the copy /b command, then opened the resulting file in winamp. Using
the appropriate commands, winamp accurately reported on the elapsed time and
time remaining, so at least in this case, the mp3 file wasn't too badly
damaged by this procedure.

Who's succeeding with Pandora

2006-10-27 Thread Dean Martineau
Hi. Pandora, the innovative music service, has come up here a time or two.
The service has a lot to offer, and isn't very accessible. I believe one
person claims to have registered independently, but at least two of us have
asked Pandora support to register us since they admit that the registration
process isn't accessible.

Now I'm registered, and I have a few stations created and can switch among
them, but I can't figure out how to do lots of other things, like ghumbs up
or thumbs down songs, add stations, change volume, etc. There are hotkeys
but I haven't gotten them to work using JFW 7 and using the pass through
key. Obviously, focus isn't right. Part of the issue is that I use a
laptop devoid of a keypad.

I'd like to know if anybody can do more with Pandora, and if so, what is
your sysstem like?

Hi,
I was able to register but that was awhile back. I couldnt change stations
at all, tell the system if I liked or didn't like an artist, etc.

When I emailed them, they responded promptly and sid they were working ways
to make their platform more accessable.

I think it would behoove me to revisit the site and see how it's come in the
past year or so.

Re: CDex help please

2006-10-27 Thread Robert Hebert
It looks like your output path may be missing.
While in CDEX, hit f-4 to open the configuration section.
You will then need to control tab once to get to the CDDB tab.
I believe the first item here is the path and file name where you want your
ripped tracks to be stored.
For instance, in my case, it is:
f:\my music.
The my music folder is where all my music is stored and f is the name of the
drive where the folder is located.
You likely know most of this but just trying to be thorough.
There will likely need to be other configuration settings to be made and the
keystroke f-1 provides quite a comprehensive help section--I know, it helped me
a lot in setting up CDEX.

If you still have an earlier version of CDEX, take a look at the settings in
your .ini file--at least you will then be able to determine whether or not
you have the version 1.7 configured correctly.
Alternatively, get a friend to send you their .ini file.
The directory where I store my ripped music is F.
I rip my tracks from my E drive.
I use the Freid data base for gathering my CD information.
So, everyone's configuration will be slightly different but, by looking at a
correctly configured .ini file, you will at least be able to rule out
several possible problems.
Finally, if you have an earlier version such as 1.6 that worked correctly,
you might want to try and use that version in the interim.
Another possibility is to get the paid version of Winamp. Incidentally, they
have a tremendous data base and do an excellent job ripping music for about
twenty dollars.

Why not just select the tracks you want to rip then do f-9.
I use Control-A to select all the tracks on the cd then hit f-9, that is

Have you used cdex 1.7 previously. If you have not ripped any tracks since
installing version 1.7, you may have to modify your cdex.ini file.

Re: any accessable program for I Pod shovel?

2006-10-27 Thread Doc
Here is more information if you decide to get the anapod explorer.
I chose not to install iTunes directly afterwords. You'll want to do this,
especially if you'll be using alternative software to transfer your files.
Like
others have said on the list, for some unknown reason, iTunes must be
present on your system in order for everything to work. Without it
installed, Anapod
Explorer wouldn't even find my iPod.
Windows found it, but not Anapod.
One very perplexing thing in all this. In order to continue with the install
of your iPod software, the instalation program is going to ask for the 11
digit
serial number found on the box for your iPod. Write this number down,
because you're going to need it. The other problem I had with this, at least
with
JAWS 6, is that when it presents this dialogue, the edit box to type the
number into is not immediately available. The only way i was able to get it
typed
in is to have sighted help moving the mouse to the specific spot on the
screen so that JAWS would find the focus in the edit field. You can then
type in
the serial number and continue with the install.

So, after this, you just install the iPod updater software, at which time,
it should tell you if your iPod needs to be formatted. Mine didn't need to
be,
but the updater program will let you re-initialize the iPod if you need to
do it. If all goes well with this, then it's time to install the iTunes
software.
You may be asked to reboot when you're finished. If you are, please do so.
When you come back up, you'll probably be asked to register your iPod with
Apple.
You'll want to do that, in case you run into any technicle problems, and
they can find your information in their database a little easier. Just
connect
your iPod to your computer via the USB Port if you haven't already done so,
and follow the onscreen prompts and
you'll first give your iPod a name and set a few other preferences.
Now, open up iTunes, and go to the edit menu. You'll need to use your
screenreader's review cursor a lot for this, but it can most certainly be
done. Once
in the edit menu, choose preferences. You'll want to make sure that the
setting for iTunes to load when this iPod is connected is not! checked. so
uncheck
that box, and in the iPod tab, make sure you check the box for disc use
mode. there'll be a dialogue that comes up letting you know that doing this
makes
it like a drive in windows, but this is ok so just press the ok button.

After that, you can install Anapod explorer. All of the default settings it
gives you are fine, so there probably isn't much of a need to change any of
them. When you install it, you'll want to go to your system tray. you should
see an item there that says, Anapod Manager iPod shuffle. Press enter and
from the menu, choose the item that says, connect iPod shuffle. This
prepares the Shuffle and the computer to send data back and forth. Now,
here's the
really important part. Now, you're ready to transfer data to your shuffle.
To do this, locate any music you'd like to copy to your shuffle. So go to
the
directory where your music is and do a simple copy operation there. Note
that if you have the trial version of Anapod, it'll only let you copy one
song
at a time. This lets you at least figure out if it'll work for you. Ok, now
that you've copied your track or tracks to your clipboard, it's time to
paste
them. I learned through experience that it's important to paste the tracks
in a specific place, rather than just in the route directory of the drive
itself.
You can do this til the end of time and it won't work. So, instead, open up
Anapod Explorer via the context menu in the system tray icon menu and arrow
down to the part of the tree that says,iPod shuffler. The item we're
actually interested in is in this section and is called shuffle memory.
Arrow down
one time to get to this. On some systems you may have to press enter to get
the song list to appear, but on mine curiously, i only had to press the tab
key. and maybe it's just my system in particular, but for some strange
reason, JAWS would not read the list viw to me unless i did a bit of cursor
routing.
But after that, you should be able to paste your tracks there. so go ahead
and do that now. if you read your status line, you'll be able to tell how
fast
the files are transfering and if there's space on the shuffle being taken up
by the files. these are good indicators to tell if you're doing it
correctly.
Eventually your transfer will complete, hopefully successfully! So now,
you'll have to go back to the system tray, choose anapod manager again and
press
enter on disconnect iPod shuffle. This indicates that the file transfers are
over. Now, you'll also need to remove your shuffle from the computer. Don't
just yank it out of the USB port though. First, go back to the anapod
manager menu and choose eject iPod shuffle and then after a few seconds
you'll get
a dialogue box saying that the operation

Hello. for some reason my CDex program has lost the ability to see my CD

How can I get CDex to recognize my drive again? thanks.

In order to continue with the
 install
of your iPod software, the instalation program is going to ask for the 11
 digit
serial number found on the box for your iPod. Write this number down,
because you're going to need it. The other problem I had with this, at
 least
 with
JAWS 6, is that when it presents this dialogue, the edit box to type the
number into is not immediately available. The only way i was able to get
 it
 typed
in is to have sighted help moving the mouse to the specific spot on the
screen so that JAWS would find the focus in the edit field.

Just
 connect
your iPod to your computer via the USB Port if you haven't already done
 so,
and follow the onscreen prompts and
you'll first give your iPod a name and set a few other preferences.
Now, open up iTunes, and go to the edit menu. You'll need to use your
screenreader's review cursor a lot for this, but it can most certainly be
 done. Once
in the edit menu, choose preferences. You'll want to make sure that the
setting for iTunes to load when this iPod is connected is not! checked. so
 uncheck
that box, and in the iPod tab, make sure you check the box for disc use
mode. there'll be a dialogue that comes up letting you know that doing
 this
 makes
it like a drive in windows, but this is ok so just press the ok button.

After that, you can install Anapod explorer. All of the default settings
 it
gives you are fine, so there probably isn't much of a need to change any
 of
them. When you install it, you'll want to go to your system tray. you
 should
see an item there that says, Anapod Manager iPod shuffle.
Ok,
 now
that you've copied your track or tracks to your clipboard, it's time to
 paste
them. I learned through experience that it's important to paste the tracks
in a specific place, rather than just in the route directory of the drive
 itself.
You can do this til the end of time and it won't work. So, instead, open
 up
Anapod Explorer via the context menu in the system tray icon menu and
 arrow
down to the part of the tree that says,iPod shuffler. The item we're
actually interested in is in this section and is called shuffle memory.
 Arrow down
one time to get to this. On some systems you may have to press enter to
 get
the song list to appear, but on mine curiously, i only had to press the
 tab
key. and maybe it's just my system in particular, but for some strange
reason, JAWS would not read the list viw to me unless i did a bit of
 cursor
 routing.
But after that, you should be able to paste your tracks there. so go ahead
and do that now. if you read your status line, you'll be able to tell how
 fast
the files are transfering and if there's space on the shuffle being taken
 up
by the files. these are good indicators to tell if you're doing it
 correctly.
Eventually your transfer will complete, hopefully successfully! So now,
you'll have to go back to the system tray, choose anapod manager again and
 press

Re: CDex help please

2006-10-27 Thread Robert Hebert
By doing a control tab, you also get to your CD drives page.
On this page do you have the drive selected from which you are ripping?
If windows is not seeing the drive from which you are ripping, it could be
because you have not selected that drive on the drives page or tab.
If this does not work, maybe we can get together on Skype (if you have it) and
go through your settings.

There will likely need to be other configuration settings to be made and the
keystroke f-1 provides quite a comprehensive help section--I know, it helped
me a lot in setting up CDEX.

I use Control-A to select all the tracks on the cd then hit f-9, that is
assuming I want to rip all the tracks on the cd.
Have you used cdex 1.7 previously. If you have not ripped any tracks since

that is supposed to pop up when you click the add a new device button. I

RE: RealPlayer 10.5 and transporting files to approved devices

2006-10-27 Thread Tim Grady
First, I don't use JFW so I'm not sure how to use the virtual mouse, so when
I'm talking about the mouse maybe a JFW user can translate. The first thing
you need to do is make sure your library is set up right in Realplayer. It
probably is since you've been downloading RAX files. Hit alt-v in
Realplayer and you'll be in the view menu. Arrow up to burn/transfer and
hit enter. Click on the device list and use your up/down arrow keys to
choose your device. Hopefully it will be in the list. When you've selected
it hit enter. Next, click on library with the mouse. Route your pc cursor
to the mouse pointer and hit enter I think. Use your down arrow and hit
enter on music files. Use your down arrow and hit enter on either artist
or album. Move through until you find the artist or album you want. If you
want the whole album or all of the artists clips, just right click on the
artist or album and choose add to device from the menu. If you want to add
individual clips, just hit return when you get to the artist or album you
want and select the clips in the usual way. If you do this it's easier to
add one at a time. Right click on the clip and the menu will pop up where
you can choose add to device.

Hi, Tim. This is probably going to the whole ist, but I couldn't seem to
locate your email address. Anyway, we all might learn something.
Fortunately, I now know at least one day for me to download my REalplayer
rax files into my new Muvo tx/fm or whatever it's called. But I'm curious
to know your keystrokes to do that. Of course, I don't start by opening
Realplayer but go to the files I want to download directly in my music. So,

could you let me know how you download into your device?

Peace,
Kathy

OK, I'm not quite sure how to add a new device. I do no that certain
 pages
in realplayer don't work when ie7 is installed and one of them is the page
that is supposed to pop up when you click the add a new device button. I
have to look at the add new device more closely. Are you having trouble
adding your device? Once you add your device the rest is easy. Right now

 I
have a Shuffle hooked up because Realplayer no longer supports my player
 of
choice. So if you don't have your device added roll back your ie7 to ie6
until the device is added. Take this off list and write me at my email
 address.

Hi, Tim, hope you remember. Got this Muvo player yesterday that's
 supposed
to be realplayer music store ready, whatever that might mean. Smile.

 done it in a while.

Okay, yet ahother wearying question about Realplayer. Has anyone messed
with putting rax files into a device, like a Muvo or whatever? Either my
husband and I are very dense, or the instructions in the Help section of
Realplayer music store don't quite match the reality we see when we try
 to
follow the instructions. I'll keep fooling with this thing, but I'm
 just
wondering if anyone has had any experience with this. Thanks for any
 help
you all might have to offer!

 Peace,
 Kathy

 Hi,

The slider moves in 1 percent increments. Apparently there is no way to
change it unless you could somehow use a mouse to slide the slider.
