Re: Winamp 5.35

2007-10-26 Thread DJ DOCTOR P
High Larry,
I had Winamp v5.35, but my wife said that it got in her way, so she
uninstalled it.
I should have backed it up on to a CD, but I didn't think to do that.
So could you please give me the link to download it again?
Think you a hole bunch!
  John.

Hi there. On this list, I've seen quite a few negative comments concerning
the new Winamp. I'm still on the fence as to whether to install it or not. I
have no problem with learning a new way of doing something, but I'm
wondering if the new version offers any significant advantages over 5.35.

Thanks for your thoughts on that score.

Re: Unusual MP3

2007-10-26 Thread DJ DOCTOR P
High Garry,
That happens to me too as well.
But it happens when someone calls and leaves a voicemail in my voicemail
box.
But my phone company sends a copy of the voicemail to my email address.
But its a .wav file.
Every time I wish to play it, the computer always ask me, "do you want to
open or save this file?"
I wonder if this has something to do with the email program or the operating
system?

RE: Sound Editing Feature on Main Menu Live

2007-10-26 Thread Ray's Home
Steve, this Main Menu edition is certainly worth a listen.

One of the things mentioned was a new applet called levelator. It
evens out levels very effectively, and can be useful for live
recordings and situations where precise attention to level isn't
practical. As of now, not very accessible, as you have to drag a file
to be 'levelized' onto the apps small interface. This is due to be
corrected some time very soon, with a right click option being
available for converting a file you are on. I believe a browse to
file tobe levelized might be addeed too. Levelized files are stored
in the same folder as the original with a .output.wav extention.

Little mention of multitrack editors, which is a bit of a shame.
Maybe only those in professional situations are using them, what with
the high cost of getting scripts to make it all happen.

Cheers,

The next time that dialogue pops up, try hitting the key combination

a checkbox to determine wether or not it checks for updates.
I don't know if that'll do any good because when it pops up for a lot

Hi folks

Since there's been a rather large influx of messages about Winamp in
the last while, i thought I'd send out a reminder about the list I
run on Freelists, called Winamp4TheBlind.

We discuss Winamp in conjunction with all the major screenreaders,
and I like to encourage people to promote their streams or internet
radio shows as well, just so long as you actually use Winamp to
listen to it. Like the list name says, it's Winamp4TheBlind, so that
should pretty much give you an indication of what the primary topic
of discussion is for the list. I realize that it's ok to ask
questions about Winamp here as well, but if you have a problem that
requires a little closer examination or if you are just interested in
Winamp, then you might like to join.
To do so, send a blank e-mail to:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]
please note the dash between blind, and request.

and put the word subscribe in the subject line. Note to Outlook
Express users Please make sure that you have the include
original message in reply option turned on, because Freelists places
a code in the confirmation message, and if it can't see it, you won't
be able to join. Some people have told me that they've had trouble
getting on, so i thought I might give that tip.
In any case, i hope a few people will join and help some folks out,

Setting Default Players (Windows Media Player; Winamp; or Real Player) in Vista

2007-10-26 Thread JardataMailServicesBox
Hello List!

I have a Toshiba notebook running Vista. I want to have Winamp and Real Player
on my system along with Windows Media Player. Now, I did this on my HP Desktop
running vista and it works, but I can for the world get it to work on my
Toshiba. I want Real Player to be my default player. I have taken the
requir3ed options and set Real Player as the option, but Media Player still
runs the show and plays everything. What do I need to do to get things set the
way I want them?

Also, whenever I go to my web site and click on a link, which has a M3U file to
be played, Windows Vista asks me to download the file. It won't play it on the
spot. I think the same thing would happen with any type of files.

How do you set default player to come on in Vista. I have two notebooks to set
up and another vista desktop.

thanks for your help.

Hi ray,

Nero supports this format and the audio conversion pack will allow you to
convert from this format to others and back.

Subject: info on mp4 wanted: converting to and from

Hope the subject line is clear, and apols to those who may be on both
lists for cross-posting.

I've been told the MP4 format - or the audio part of the standard - is
supposed to be better than MP3 both in terms of file size and the
sound quality achievable with a lossy format. Can anyone comment on
this?

Also, I'd like to know if there are any shareware or reasonably priced
converters around, either as stand alone converters or as part of
audio editors.

Any comments welcome as I'm feeling a little out of my depth here.

Many thanks.

Re: Winamp 5.35

2007-10-26 Thread Mike Pietruk
Sounds to me that unless someone needs something specific 5.50 has to
offer, one is best leaving well enough alone and remaining with 5.35.
Good reason to maintain past versions of programs on hand just in case a
newer version causes more problems than benefits.

2007-10-26 Thread Chris Skarstad
Hi. Wow, this really seems to be becoming a problem! I have an idea.
The next time that dialogue pops up, try hitting the key combination
alt n for no. in that dialogue there's a yes button, a no button and
a checkbox to determine wether or not it checks for updates.
I don't know if that'll do any good because when it pops up for a lot
of folks their speech seems to stop working. But if you hit alt plus
n the box will go away and then you can go into preferences and turn it off.
Hope that helps.

Re: shameless plug for the list i run

2007-10-26 Thread Chris Skarstad
Hi John
Thanks. Although I usually get an e-mail saying that someone
subscribed and I didn't get one from freelists saying you'd
joined. Is it possible that you spelled the list name correctly?
Just so you know, it's Winamp, the spelling of it is:
   W
I
N
A
M
P

so it's winamp followed by the number 4 followed by the words the
blind with no spaces, so it looks like theblind
followed by a dash, [EMAIL PROTECTED]
and in the subject line put the word subscribe and send the
message. I figured maybe some folks were thinking it might be the
word, for, and not the number 4 itself.
I hope that helps.

High Chris, this is John.
I just became a member of your list.
I don't have anything against PC Audio, but maybe you and some of your list
members can answer some questions that have hard to find answers to them for
me.
Like how do you burn the text as well as the audio files on to a CD using
Wenamp?
This is something that I've been trying to do for the longest time.
Maybe you guise can help me out.

shameless plug for the list i run

2007-10-26 Thread Chris Skarstad

To do so, send a blank e-mail to:

a code in the confirmation message, and if it can't see it, you won't

getting on, so i thought I might give that tip.
In any case, i hope a few people will join and help some folks out,

sizing Winamp

2007-10-26 Thread Bobcat
How does one size Winamp to use more of the screen? This would be for
better visibility. We tried sizing it but could only stretch it
horizontally. This stretched all the windows and controls sideways and
messed up the video aspect ratio . It seems there is no way to make the
window taller in proportion.

Thanks Michael. So that's why all the messages about VLC media player.

I was hoping for a plugin for Windows Media Player or Winamp.
