Re: More goldwave questions, I don't give up easily

2007-11-28 Thread Vinny Samarco
Thanks doc for your comments,
This is an old cassette of not the greatest quality which I would like
to preserve on a cd. What would you do? If I changed the sampling rate to
32,-000, would it make that much difference? I ran it through the equalizer
to spice up the trebble a little bit, do you think it would make that much
difference? Now, I got my length of the file later, by to the my music
folder, selecting all the split files of the music on the cd, and going to
properties and finding out how much room they are taking.
Thanks for any help and suggestions.

RE: Slingbox

2007-11-28 Thread Paul Henrichsen
Dish network, right now, is working on making it possible for you to manage
your dvr from your computer. You can't copy files due to copyright
restrictions, but you could add shows to your dvr, delete others and
possibly even start one playing. The problem is that dish online, right now,
is not accessible, at least with window-eyes. Haven't tried it with jfw yet.
We need to write to dish network or echostar and tell them that this would
be a really good move if their guide page was accessible and if their blind
users could manage their dvr's. They are currently in a testing phase on
dishonline.com;
However, that page is so inaccessible, that you can't even find the feedback
button,
The models 622 and 722 both have network capabilities. One can connect a
Ethernet cable or use a homeplug AC adapter to transfer via the electrical
outlets in your home.
We need to start a movement and convince echo star that with a little work,
they can make this completely accessible to their blind customers.
Echostar acquired slingbox last month. They now have a package for
connecting your slingbox to your dvr. This allows you to watch programs on
your dvr from any pc. You can watch programs on your dvr in aany hotel or
any place where you can get internet access.
The problem is that the software mimics the dish remote allowing you to play
items or add new ones you forgot to add when you were home. Unfortunately,
with thisgraphical interface,
This is not accessible. Yet another thing to see if we can get them to
realize and work on.

satelite radio

2007-11-28 Thread Brandon Hicks
Hi all,
Sorry if this is too far off.
I'm thinking about purchasing some sort of satelite radio, and I'm
wondering if anyone can recommend a device that fits the following:
Portable, so I can plug headphones in and use it like a standard radio.
Channel selection needs to be accessible. (not through a menu or touch
screen)

Under $200 US
I really don't know which out of XM and Sirius is better for me, I'd
mostly be listening to rock and metal music, so if one has a better
selection of that type of music I'd go for that over the other.

Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks
Brandon

Re: Slingbox

2007-11-28 Thread DJ DOCTOR P
Hello Pall,
This is something that I myself have been telling Dishnetwork for the last
past 3 years.
I own a dish player DVR receiver.
Ever cense I had it, I wanted to get better control of it.
But right now, it has better control of me because I can't see the on screen
menus.
I wrote to them via email, they wrote back to tell me, "we're working on
it."
But I'm wondering, when is it going to all be assessable?
  John.

RE: satellite radio

2007-11-28 Thread Terra Syslo
If you're in to rock and metal maybe XM would be a better choice. Sirius
also has rock channels, but Sirius is more repetitive. XM has the Delphi
MyFi, and I'm not sure how available it is, but all the buttons are tactile,
and you just press in the channel number. You can plug headphones into it,
and the battery will last about 4 hours if I'm not mistaken. It also has a
home and car docking kit. I'm sure Sirius has portable receivers too, I just
don't know what they are. I have the Audoivox SIR3, I think it is, which has
a home kit and can be plugged into a boom box, but it can't operate on its
own.

Re: VLC Keystrokes

2007-11-28 Thread Kelly Pierce
Should we get in touch with Freedom Scientific or the VLC development team?
As the VLC volume control seems to work without difficulty with window
eyes, it might be best if FS took a look at this problem. It appears that
VLC is an up and coming media player. I was on the website of WPFW in
Washington today to find the stream URL to capture a program while I was at
work. they have configured things so various players can load
automatically. VLC was on the list along with iTunes, Winamp, Real Player
and Windows Media player.

Re: VLC Keystrokes

2007-11-28 Thread Dane Trethowan
I think the best suggestion to the list thus far was from someone else
who suggested you make a new configuration with JAWS to disable some
of the JAWS functions that used ctrl-up and down arrow, may be he
could repost his suggestion, that seems an easier way of solving the
problem.

The volume up and down don't work for me either. I am joining their
e-mail list. I will post a question about this and let you know
 if I
 find out anything.

Hi Sue, I can help because I do this quuite a bit. I willmake a trade of

Hello am looking for some advice in converting tapes to cd.

2007-11-28 Thread Sue Ward
Hello my name is Sue. Hope I could find some friendly people here on this list.
Hopefully some of you are visually impaired and could help me out. I recently
got a cd burner and am loving it. Am using this program from
Readingmadeeasy.com. It allows me to create data and audio cds. What I would
like to do is somehow convert my tapes to MP3 format then I could transfer to
cd. I did look at two programs which are audio grabber and audacity. Since I
only have a 20 GB hard drive with 256 MB of ramcould this work? Also if I were
going to do this I also know I would need some sort of cable to go from my
computer to my tape deck. I do have a tape player about the size of the
walkman, could I use that? What kind of cable would I need. Also am using
Window Eyes and since am looking at those programs I have mentioned, I did look
at the memory and the space they would take up. Would this work? Am looking at
an hour tape to convert to cd. I am also running Windows XP. So if anyone has
suggestions on how to do this since this is my first time in making cds and
loving it. Thank you.
