Ok everyone,
I solved the problem of exessive length. I bounded the selection. That
gave me 585 megs which sould easily fit on the cd. Look how much space I
had wasted by keeping things unbounded.

 High Samuel,
Aren't you a little mixed up there?
You said to run a line in cable from the headphone jack of the sound card
 to
the headphone jack of the tape player.
 That trick wont work.
Because you are trying to run 2 outputs in to each other.
If the voltage was much higher then 250mv which comes out of both a walk
 man
and your sound card, you will end up frying your tape player and your
 sound
card all at the same time.
The headphone jack if anything, should be connected to the line in jack of
 the sound card.
This way, Gold Wave or any audio editor will make the recording without
 any
 problems.
I'm not to keen on making recordings on a pc yet, but I did learn that the
hard way when I was a kid.
Two outputs can't be connected together.
  John.

Have you tried the Goldwave sound editor? That is what I use for my sound

 a

Hello my name is Sue. Hope I could find some friendly people here on
 this
list. Hopefully some of you are visually impaired and could help me out.
 I
recently got a cd burner and am loving it. Am using this program from
Readingmadeeasy.com. It allows me to create data and audio cds. What I
would like to do is somehow convert my tapes to MP3 format then I could
transfer to cd. I did look at two programs which are audio grabber and
audacity. Since I only have a 20 GB hard drive with 256 MB of ramcould
this work? Also if I were going to do this I also know I would need some
sort of cable to go from my computer to my tape deck. I do have a tape
player about the size of the walkman, could I use that? What kind of
 cable
would I need. Also am using Window Eyes and since am looking at those
programs I have mentioned, I did look at the memory and the space they
would take up. Would this work? Am looking at an hour tape to convert to
cd. I am also running Windows XP. So if anyone has suggestions on how to
do this since this is my first time in making cds and loving it. Thank
 you.

I have set my music settings in recording a cd to 44,000 Etc. for the
sampling rate, stereo, cd quality 80 minutes. The music on the file takes
56 minutes to play. Why is the total space taken up by this file over 1
gig? the first time I recorded it in two half-hour sessions each file was
about 287 megs? Now I recorded it all at once, put the appropriate Q points
and silences in and the total file is over 1 gig? I don't seem to have
extra spaces? If I lower the sampling rate I'll reduce quality. Now, if it
is too much trouble to write an answer, I will be glad to phone someone, or

Re: More goldwave questions, I don't give up easily

2007-11-30 Thread Vinny Samarco
Hi Curtis,
I have recorded the songs from my 56 minute tape, with sampling rate of
44,100, stereo and set it for 57 minutes, saved it as a wav file. Before
splitting the file it is 1.4 gig. I can't figure out what I am doing wrong.
If the acceptable cd rate is 44,100 and regular cd players only play that
rate in the wav format, how am I going to get it on the cd which is about
700 megs of storage?
It almost seems like something is being doubled as far as space is
concerned. I hav 24 tracks each taking between 20 and 25 megs of space, so
even with silences and Q points, how am I getting 1.4 gigs?
I sure would appreciate answers from anyone here.

TThanks for listening.

Is there a way to murge two audio files into one file but take out the

I wouldn't advise that either. I would suggest going to the line out of a

The headphone jack if anything, should be connected to the line in jack
 of
 the sound card.
This way, Gold Wave or any audio editor will make the recording without
 any
 problems.
I'm not to keen on making recordings on a pc yet, but I did learn that
 the
hard way when I was a kid.
Two outputs can't be connected together.
  John.

Have you tried the Goldwave sound editor? That is what I use for my
 sound
editing and I am currently in the process of converting a tape to CD for
 a
friend of mine. I use Window Eyes too and Goldwave is very accessible
 with
it. You need a line-in cable running from the headphone jack of your
 sound
card to the headphone jack of your tape deck. Hope this helps.

Hello my name is Sue. Hope I could find some friendly people here on
 this
list. Hopefully some of you are visually impaired and could help me
 out.
 I
recently got a cd burner and am loving it. Am using this program from
Readingmadeeasy.com. It allows me to create data and audio cds. What I
would like to do is somehow convert my tapes to MP3 format then I could
transfer to cd. I did look at two programs which are audio grabber and
audacity. Since I only have a 20 GB hard drive with 256 MB of ramcould
this work? Also if I were going to do this I also know I would need
 some
sort of cable to go from my computer to my tape deck. I do have a tape
player about the size of the walkman, could I use that? What kind of
 cable
would I need. Also am using Window Eyes and since am looking at those
programs I have mentioned, I did look at the memory and the space they
would take up. Would this work? Am looking at an hour tape to convert
 to
cd. I am also running Windows XP. So if anyone has suggestions on how
 to
do this since this is my first time in making cds and loving it. Thank
 you.

Comments on my first experience of tape to cd.

2007-11-30 Thread Vinny Samarco
Hi,
I had so much trouble with the extra file size because I was given the
distinct impression by some, (probably not on this list) that I could just
keep everything in goldwave unbounded and open and close the file and record
as long or as short as I needed to, and things would be allright. At least
in the gw 5.22, this was not the case in my experience. So after recording
in bounding selection, and manually putting in the time, 1.4 gigs turned out
to be aprox 570 megs, and thus should fit easily onto a cd.
Thanks to all who made suggestions.
Vinny
