Sound Forge 9 and Accessibility for Blind and Visually Impaired
Hello, Folks! I'm new to this list, and look forward to being part of this list. I'm totally blind, and am thinking of purchasing the full version of Sound Forge 9. I recently bought the NBP braille cheat sheet. It refers to commands for Version 8. Is version 9 still accessible? Thanks in advance for your help.--Matt Chao Jonathan Mosen List Founder Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
A Little Off Topic, But not that much
Hello List Members, If you haven't heard the news, here it is. The days of running Windows XP on our systems are or have come to an end. This means trouble for some of us that have a fancy to some audio editors, because they aren't compatible with VISTA. The audio editor of my choice is DC-7, but it doesn't interface to well with VISTA. I also found out that Studio Recorder doesn't work with VISTA at all. I mean, I couldn't get it to work for me. I heard that there were problems with Total Recorder and getting it to work right the first time with VISTA. But when you want to upgrade to better audio hardware such as sound cards, the drivers have to be signed by Microsoft. Or else, the sound cards won't work. But what about today's MP3 players and ipods? In Windows XP, you don't need special drivers to load audio files on to them. But with VISTA, it's not simply plug and play. Now, you will have to get permission from Microsoft to do anything with audio hardware or any hardware of any kind. What's the point in that?I myself, am shopping around for a good deal on a Mack system. So if any of you have any tips or suggestions, I'd love to hear them. Tips and suggestions on things like screen reading software and audio editors for Macs. My best regards. John. PS. Don't take my word for it, read about this at: www.pcworld.com or go to: www.npr.org and click on Monday June 30 and then business news. You can either read about it or listen to it here. Re: Sound Forge 9 and Accessibility for Blind and Visually Impaired
I upgraded from Sound Forge version 6 to version 9, so haven't actually used version 8. The accessibility of version 9 is about the same as for version 6 and probably for version 8, at least for the things I need to do. This includes cutting, copying, pasting, fading, normalising, equalising, pitch, time stretch, noise reduction and effects. It depends on what you want to do, but for most simple editing tasks, I don't have any problems with version 9. I use JAWS and don't currently use any third party scripts. You will find that most of the commands for version 9 are the same as those for version 8. One thing you might wish to do with version 9 is to locate the channel meters option in the view menu and uncheck it. Having this option checked can cause problems for some screen readers. Here is an article that gives more information. Microsoft confirms extended 'window' of support June 25th | Tell us what you think [ 0 comments ] XP support XP support Zoom Zoom Microsoft has told its customers that it will be supporting Windows XP until 2014 - a much longer period than it normally supplies. The failure of Vista to get the kind of purchase of its predecessor and the continued rise of sub-notebooks which need less memory intensive operating systems has given XP a life outside of the expected. Although the OS will not be sold by OEM manufacturers after June 30 apart from as a preinstalled 'downgrade' (until January 2009) in their more powerful products, XP will not be fading away just yet, and Microsoft has listened to its customers and will provide support. Red Letter Day for Vista The news came in a letter sent out by the company, and it goes on to launch a defence of the beleaguered Vista - which is due to be replaced inside the next two years. "Windows Vista is a very significant step forward, but our customers have made it clear that they want broader support for devices and applications in order to enjoy the overall experience,"wrote Bill Veghte, senior vice president of the Microsoft Windows Business Group. "During the last year, we have worked diligently with our hardware and software partners to improve compatibility to remove the barriers that prevent users from taking advantage of the important advancements Windows Vista delivers. It has been a year of exciting and critical progress." By Patrick Goss list of 3 items - Original Message - From: "DJ DOCTOR P" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC audio discussion list. Re: How Record a sound cut-no actual file?
Hello, Can you download those sound clips? I'm asking because if you can, then there is really no need to record them. But if you jest want to anyway, you can do this in Total Recorder. You can set it up to record what you hear. My best regards. Thanks for this summary, I was wondering about upgrading to 9 as well. But if you uncheck the metres, how do you view monitor levels. Re: Sound Forge 9 and Accessibility for Blind and Visually Impaired
Hi Peter, I usually set my levels by ear a little lower than I want, then either normalise, or if the sound levels vary, use wave hammer, when I have completed recording. Perhaps others can confirm, but I think the meters controlled by that option are visual and not accessible to screen reader users such as myself. Perhaps they are of some use to those who have some sight. Trying to utilize CD Architect 5.2, in Soundforge 9.0E
Dear Listers, I have learned the rudimentary steps, to create regions, in Soundforge 6.0. Now, I want to be able to create a CD, say from a live recording, with tracks, that can be used, on a CD player, that has a numerical keypad, to access tracks. I am having difficulty, at present, accessing the Sony knowledge base, because of some internet connection problems, that I am having, in that I cannot get to the links that the tech support team gave me. That having been said, since the CD Architect 5.2 manual, that I have, is very confusing, what is a simple explanation of how to do the steps, necessary, to make this happen? Soundforge 9.0 sat on my bookshelf, for over a year, while I did other things; now I am going through the hair pulling that arises, from trying to make this a reality! Nero or Goldwave would be the way to go, but I haven't invested in either of those programs, as of yet! Help!
