Re: creative zen stone

2009-03-13 Thread Christopher Chaltain

True, Rockbox isn't supported on the Zen Stone.

As far as Creative Lite is concerned, maybe the author of those JFW
scripts will update them to work with JFW 10. Do you still have JFW 9?
Maybe you could switch back when you needed to run Creative Lite.

Rockbox is great, and I occasionally use Creative Lite myself, but IMHO,
the Zen Stone is simple enough that it doesn't need Rockbox or Creative
Lite for that matter.

Re: Apple Releases New Ipod

2009-03-13 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Well, I agree it's a good development, but I wouldn't say what Apple is
doing is revolutionary. Remember Rock box has used this technology for
years. I installed rockbox on my first portable media player in 2007 and
using talking clips to speak the menus, folders and file names wasn't
new then. Right now I have Rockbox running on a 30G iRiver, and I'm
using Samantha or Jill for my voice. It's one of those voices that came
with JFW 8. Again, don't get me wrong, this is a great development, and
I encourage Apple to continue down this path, but their claims of the
first talking portable media player are distorted and the technology
they're using isn't revolutionary.

Constantine wrote:

And unless my ipod video's hard drive fails, it will be lasting a long

I really want an 80 gb ipod video, though.

Yeah, but the fact that an actual popular company is doing this, without us
having to instal alternate firmware - that's a step in the right direction.
Might not be a revolution, but it sure beats what most companies are doing,

2009-03-13 Thread Kathy Szinnyey
Okay, so I have everything pretty much as I want it, got that cross-fade
plug-in, what you hear sounds pretty good. Now I notice a tiny bit of . . .
I guess you would call it, like that sound you get when someone just barely
bumps a turntable? My guess is that something might be fightin with
something else, I don't know. Any ideas? I am going to upgrade to 2 mg
memory which might not fix that problem but might give me a little more
power when using these audio applications.

Thanks again for everyone's help!

Peace,
Kathy

| Yeah, I thought so; it was all to do with the direct sound output plug-in,
| which both of the Total Recorder drivers have issues with, such as garbled
| or distorted audio. Thanks for letting us know, as I was going to
reinstall

Just

| heavily distort up to the point you can't make sense of the words? Again
| just curious as I never dealt with this problem and Total Recorder
| documentation don't really explain what one would hear. Thanks in advance!

Your likely going to have to accept limited sound quality from a netbook
sound driver.

There are sound cards out there that cost the same as your netbook.

|| Hi, Chris. Yes, I did re-install total recorder a couple days ago and
|| installed that Kernel 32 driver instead of the user one. So, where do I
|| tell Winamp that I want it to play through the realtech sound card, if
|| that's what I'm supposed to do. Windows Media player plays fine, but I'd
|| prefer Winamp which sounds distorted. I really appreciate your patience.
|| I'm really trying to figure this out on my own but I'm just plain stuck!
| I
|| am so happy I can now do "what you hear" now! Smile.
||
|| Peace,
|| Kathy

||| Kathy, in Winamp and any other playback programs, set it to use your
|| actual
||| sound card. As I stated previously, if you use the user mode driver and
|| your
||| playback program supports direct sound, sound may be garbled. Hope this
||| helps.

||| So, all you intrepid souls out there, I thank you so far for all your
|| help.
||| I now seem to be able to use What you Hear" using Total Recorder as long
|| as
||| I use an external microphone and not the little mikes on the Asus. I've
||| also installed Winamp today after losing my temper one too many times
| with
||| Windows Media Player. Now the files I play using Winamp sound really
||| distorted. Anyone know what that's about? Again, I'm using Playback
and
||| record through Total Recorder and am running Windows XP Home Edition.
| And
||| while we're on the subject of annoying questions, could someone tell me
|| how
