Hey, Christopher and list! Well, I'll be! Smile. I'd just heard so often that those commerical cables wouldn't work that I just believed it! Note to self: Read the BARD information. Re: multiquence
Just to clarify this a little, I've not played with Audacity much myself but it was certainly accessible enough to get around, I remember someone writing a tutorial to use Audacity with JAWS, I was able to adapt the concepts presented in that tutorial without a problem to get Audacity to work successfully using Window-Eyes on the Windows PC and Voiceover on the Mac. Unfortunately, I Don't remember where I found the tutorial so someone on list may know where to find it or indeed! whether the tutorial still exists. The Tutorial talks about 1.35 which was - and still is as far as I know - in beta. On 05/04/2010, at 9:02 PM, Robert doc Wright wrote: > Dane says it is. Re: digital multi track recording
Hi everyone. My name's Danny Miles, and I'm a UK citizen whose new to the list. Apologies if I cover something mentioned somewhere else, but I'm just catching up. Yes, I'd love to see multi-track recording hardware with speech, and would be pleased to give my support in any way I can (afraid I'm not knowledgeable enough to make suggestions, but would be pleased to act as a tester etc). As I've never had a Mac I use Goldwave, but have never heard of Multiquence until I joined this list (more info on where to obtain it and any tutorials would be gratefully received). I'm also a traditionalist who likes to carry out recording without worrying about technology, and a good piece of hardware would be great for me in several ways. I'm a budding journalist, and even if I never end up doing this in a professional capacity, I will be spending plenty of time making programmes and documentaries for voluntary radio. I also have a history as a drummer and local band manager - booking gigs etc - but I've never been able to assist with the production of EPs due to a lack of knowledge about accessible multi-track recording hardware/software. I used to record the occasional thing with a minidisc recorder (you'll be pleased to know I've advanced to an Olympus digital recorder since those teenage days of mine), but this obviously meant that I could only take a straight recording so I wasn't able to do very much. You now can erase the files from the flash cartridge that you downloaded to undertake this upgrade and use the flash cartridge to download books and magazines. To employ the bookshelf feature, turn the player on. Press and hold the Play/Stop button until you hear the narrator announce the activation of the bookshelf feature. Continue to hold down the Play/Stop button and press either the FF or the RW arrow-shaped key to either side of the Play/Stop button. As you push and release these keys, the player will announce the next title on the flash drive. Once you get to the end of the titles saved on the drive, you must utilize the other direction key to toggle back through the titles. In other words, you cannot continue to use only the FF or the RW key to toggle through the titles in a circuit-type action. Release the Play/Stop button when you reach the item to which you desire to listen. - Original Message - From: "Randy Tijerina" To: Sent: Sunday, April 04, 2010 7:43 PM Subject: Where do you download updates to your digital talking book player? Cables for NLS cartridges and the BARD Talk web site [was "RE: Where do you download updates to your digital talking book player?"]
I'm not sure what you already have Tom since you didn't include the message you're replying to, but if you're talking about the cable needed to connect a blank NLS cartridge to your PC then you need a standard USB extension cable. This will have a full sized male connector at one end and a full size female connector at the other end. Note that due to the housing on the NLS cartridge, many USB extension cables aren't going to work, and you may find it best to buy a cable from ILA, APH or Perkins especially designed to work with the NLS cartridges. I know this has all been discussed on this list before, but I just saw this message today and figured I better clarify. Also, as mentioned on this list, the BARD Talk web site is a treasure trove of good information. It's also well organized and well thought out. I think it will clarify a lot and won't appear as contradictory as separate posts to a mailing list may seem to be. Re: Cables for NLS cartridges and the BARD Talk web site [was "RE:Wheredo you download updates to your digital talking book player?"]
Hello Tom, If it's a standard USB flash drive, it will plug right in to the USB port that's located on the right side of the player. I was the one that said that you'll have to wait a month to get the cartridges from AMERICAN PRINTING HOUSE. I called them Friday morning to place a credit card order for 2 of them. I was told by the rep, that they were on back order. She tried to talk me in to placing the order anyway, but that didn't make any since to me to charge that to my credit card then having to wait a month before I have them in my hands. If this other website that I've been hearing about has them in stock, I will get them from there. Only one question though, do they take credit card orders over the phone? My best regards. Tom, what do you mean it doesn't fit the machine? There's a USB port on the right hand side of the machine, it's about half way to the back, right behind the headphone jack. When the machine is shipped, it'll be covered with a small plastic cap. The cap just pops off, and the flash drive should plug into that port with no problem. A flash drive can only go in one way, so if you're having trouble with it, you may want to flip it over. Places To Get USB FLASH DRIVES
High Randy, You can get them from any department store and or any electronics store. You may wish to check Office Depot. Another place you can look is, Office Max. One more I could add to the list is, RadioShack. Hope this helps. My best regards. Hello Tom, If you feel the right side of your player, you will find a headphone jack. Right behind it, is the USB port. It does have a plastic cover over it. If you remove that cover, the USB port will be exposed. Right there, is where you will plug in your new thumb drive. Hope this helps. My best regards. Hi Tom. Sounds like you got a USB drive like I have. Grab each end of it, and gently pull. You should get one part that protects the USB port, and the other part, which is the drive. Also, grab the ends so you have the flat part between your fingers. Hope this works for you. By the way, APH won't have the cartridges in stock until the end of May, at least that's what I heard. Don't work too hard. Kevin Minor kmi...@windstream.net To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org

As far as I can tell, there's no "cap" or anything over it! Do I have some kind fof an "odd-balled" drive? Tom Kaufman (aka Tomcat) P.S. I ordered my cartridge on line! RE: Flash Drive Update
Yeh, it's a USB extension cable. You can further clarify that you need a full male connector on one end and a full female connector on the other end. Note that even if you get a USB extension cable, you may still not be able to fit the NLS cartridge into the female end because of the limited clearance on the cartridge. Most flash drives should work just fine though, although you can also plug them directly into the NLS player. -- Christopher chalt...@gmail.com -Original Message- From: pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Tom Kaufman Sent: Monday, April 05, 2010 8:42 PM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: Re: Flash Drive Update It's supposed to be a "USB extender cable"..this is what I was told I needed to ask for; is this not correct? Mom and I have both tried to get this off..no soap! It does appear that once this comes off, I'm in business! If one of you cares to write me offlist as I don't wish to tie the list up with this too long! My email is tomca...@comcast.net Thanks!
