Re: Problem With Switch (It Insists That I Buy It)

2010-08-26 Thread Jörgen Hansson

hey Tom!
when you installed Switch for the first time? did you ever got in to the
controll panel, and add/remove programs, then got to the switch, then
clicked uninstall? well if not, if you do that again, you will find a list
of radio buttons which will say, uninstall, downgrade to the free version or
don't uninstall, I think it's like that, but, anyway, I just did that when I
installed switch for the first time, cause I didn't wanna have that trial
running out dialog, and I downgraded to the free version and once you've
done that, it will be useful and no dialog will appear.

hope this helps.

Jörgen Hansson!

RE: Problem With Switch (It Insists That I Buy It)

2010-08-26 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I've been running the free version of Switch for quite some time, and I
haven't ever been asked to upgrade to the paid version, so unfortunately I
can't help you with that. Except for DRM protected files, the free version
of Switch has been able to convert everything I've asked it to, but this is
probably highly dependent on the types of files you want to convert between.

>From the help file, here are the file types you can only convert between
with the Plus (paid) version:

There are a number of file formats that are only supported in the Switch
Plus paid software version. These formats are also available, however,
during the 14-day trial period of Switch Plus and during the first 14 days
of Switch Free. These formats are as follows:

Convert From:

mpc
mid (GM only)
dss
sri
msv
dvf
act
rcd
rec
shn
moh
ape
spx

Convert To:

ogg
flac
rss
m3u
pls
wpl
aac
m4a
amr
ape
mpc
spx

If you have files to convert of the above format types, we strongly
encourage you to make the most of the 14-day trial period to ensure the
software does what you want it to do. Switch does not have extra supported
formats that you can only access after purchasing a license, all supported
formats are available during the 14-day trial. What you see during the
14-day trial is exactly what you get after a license purchase.

All of the file formats Switch supports can be found at
http://www.nch.com.au/switch/kb/747.html and here's that list:

What file formats does Switch for Windows support ?
Switch can open files in the following formats for Windows:

NOTE
* copy protected files are not decoded
^ playlists

.wav (PCM, ADPCM+, aLaw, uLaw, and others)
.mp3 (MPEG Layer 3)
.mp2 (MPEG Layer 2)
.mpga (MPEG Audio)
.au
.aif/aiff
.gsm
.dct
.vox
.raw
.ogg
.flac
.amr
.wma*
.wmv*
.aac* (not aacPlus)
.m4a*
.mid (General MIDI only)
.act/rcd/rec (newer version of format not supported)
.dvf (Not all dvf recorders are supported)
.msv (Not all msv recorders are supported)
.dss (SP Mode only)
.sri
.shn
.cda
.avi
.mpg/mpeg
.m3u^
.pls^

Switch on a Windows computer can open most other formats which can be
decoded by Windows Media Player.

Switch can also save files to the following formats in Windows:

.wav (PCM, ADPCM+, aLaw, uLaw, and others, see here)
.mp3
.au
.aif/aiff
.gsm
.vox
.raw
.ogg
.flac
.rss
.m3u^
.pls^
.wpl
.amr
.aac
.m4a
.wma

These are the ONLY formats we claim to support, but if you want to request
support for other formats then please post on our Switch Forum here

As you can see, the file types supported by the Plus version is a pretty
small subset of all of the file types supported by Switch. Fortunately for
me, the file types I work with haven't been in this subset.

Solving Problems With Switch Audio File Converter

2010-08-26 Thread DJ DOCTOR P
Hello List Members,
I am addressing this to Tom.
I am using Switch and Wave Pad and a few other peaces of software from NCH.
It is like George told you, if you go in to control panel and add and remove
programs and in to Switch.
And click on add or remove program.
Right there, you will find a set of radio buttons.
One of those, is labeled, "downgrade to free version."
Click on that, and that message and or dialog will go away for good.
Yay though I'm using an older version of the software, I've never had any
problems with it after I done that.
Hope this helps you all.
My best regards.
  John.

Thanks to John, Georgian (and everyone else for your suggestions! Will give
that "add-remove" thing a try, for it's not letting me do _anything_..as
soon as "Switch" pops up, the dialog telling me that the trial period for
"Switch plus" has run out (and I didn't even think I had installed "switch
plus!" So hopefully this will work; will keep you all updated!

Problem Solved!

2010-08-26 Thread Tom Kaufman
Hi list: Concerning my "switch" thing..I did as John and maybe others
suggested I do (I went into control panel, went to "Add/remove programs"..and
checked the button that said "downgrade to free version"..presto! So
hopefully, whenever I need to use "switch" (I mainly would run it to change bit
rate as it probably gives me more choices than does "Total Recorder)..it won't
give me that message that I _must_ register it! Thanks to all who helped me
solve this!

RE: Problem With Switch (It Insists That I Buy It)

2010-08-26 Thread Christopher Chaltain
It looks like when you download Switch you get a trial copy of Switch Plus.
With older versions, this would automatically downgrade to the free version
after the 14 day trial. It now seems that you have to manually downgrade to
the free version after the trial period. Of course, you could always pay for
the Plus version as well.

Internet Radio on Mobile Devices

2010-08-26 Thread Jonathan Mosen
Hi everyone, Mushroom FM is a fairly new Internet radio station that I run.
Already though, we're getting a great response, with over 3000 unique
listeners having tuned in from 127 countries in the last month.

We've had lots of inquiries about how to listen to Mushroom FM, which uses
Shout cast technology, with various mobile devices, so we've put together a
guide on how it's done. I hope you'll listen to Mushroom FM while you're
over there, but even if you don't, this could help with the stations you
listen to.

Does Ootunes get a mention in your guide? The fact for example that its like
having a completely accessible Internet radio in your pocket, just type the
name of the station you want to listen to - in this instance Mushroom FM - and
away you go, you're listening, you can then save the station in your favourites
for later listening etc.

Re: Internet Radio on Mobile Devices

2010-08-26 Thread Dane Trethowan
Hope it is as the more portable devices around which will do this then the
better, should take a leaf out of the book of Ootunes I reckon with a database
of over 25,000 Internet streams.

It's not my guide, and I don't have an iPod, but I did follow the link, and
Ootunes is mentioned.

Does Ootunes get a mention in your guide? The fact for example that its like
having a completely accessible Internet radio in your pocket, just type the
name of the station you want to listen to - in this instance Mushroom FM -
and away you go, you're listening, you can then save the station in your
favourites for later listening etc.

Re: Internet Radio on Mobile Devices

2010-08-26 Thread Dane Trethowan
Excellent.

Now please don't think I'm paranoid for one moment about Iphones or Ipod Touch
machines, I just wish there were machines or more pieces of software like
Ootunes about for multiple platforms, Ootunes is my idea of what a piece of
Internet radio software or an Internet radio itself should be, nicely
accessible for one thing as I've already described, a nice interface to use etc.

For those who are interested in Ootunes I believe several Podcasts have been
done on the app so other list members may wish to fill us in at this point
because I'm not exactly sure where to find them but I'm certain that others
have done Ootunes Podcasts somewhere.
