It is extremely accessible when used with the ReaAccess plug-in - a
plug-in which interfaces directly with JAWS, Window-Eyes, NVDA and
SystemAccess - from http://www.ReaAccess.com. I now use it for all of
my recording and editing needs. Definitely worth the $40.

Hmm, would you consider doing an audio demonstration of the program for
one of the tech shows, or for BlindCoolTech, since it's a bit daunting, and
I haven't figured out how to interact with both Reaper and Reaper Access?

Thanks a lot.

Sound Forge

2011-04-19 Thread Steve Jacobson
Recently, I moved from Windows XP to Windows 7 64-bit and found that My version
of Sound Forge 9 pro doesn't install, at least not without playing some
games with registration. I checked out Sound Forge 10 Pro and found that the
equalizer had changed and I have not found a way to reliably use it. I had
heard that the equalizer in Sound Forge 10 could be used, but I subsequently
found that apparently the reference was to Sound Forge Studio. Sound Forge
Studio is pretty nice but it does not include the high quality sony noise
reduction plug-in that Sound Forge Pro uses, and the noise reduction plug-in
cost about
the same alone as Sound Forge Pro. In addition, Sound Forge Pro allows one to
assign keystrokes to various functions.

Is anyone here using Sound Forge 10 Pro, and if so, have you figured out an
approach to use the equalizer?

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

I just clicked the link here and it works fine, but if you go to

http://www.cucat.org/class_notes/Thursday%20chats/2011/

the Reaper tutorial/introduction is the last one on that page and is
called "20110408 Intro To Reaper.mp3".

In regards to your query about documentation, a lot of the Reaper manual
is useless for blind beginners as ReaAccess (the plug-in I mentioned
earlier) changes many of the hotkeys and when using a screen reader many
of the procedures to accomplish the basics are slightly different. That
audio file should hopefully get you up and running, however if it does
not, the ReaAccess website (http://www.reaaccess.com) features details
on how you can join a mailing list specifically to talk about the use of
Reaper with screen readers. I'm sure people will be happy to help you
on there.

ditched Winamp for good. That's how much I am impressed with Foobar. In
my opinion the sound quality is so much better. Everything is configurable
and accessible. The fact you can make up your own status line makes it
worthwhile alone as it is a cinch to script for such things as reading the
elapsed time and time remaining of tracks with just a press of hotkeys etc.
Nearly every thing Foobar can do you can create a shortcut key to it and
make them global if you want to. In the foobar version I looked at ages
ago, making your own shortcut keys was not accessible but that has changed
and is fully accessible. There is so much more to this program than I have
outlined here. Oh I have to also mentioned that it is dam responsive which
was something that Winamp wasn't at times. The only thing I wish Foobar
had is a plug-in to provide time marking features. Perhaps that can be
scripted in time or I might find that plug-in in the future.

But yeah, I don't know what gives with Foobar and Window Eyes though. There
is a problem reading the list of tracks in the play list. NVDA and Jaws
don't have this problem.

Hi with all the discussion around Foobar and Winamp. Here is an interesting
blog about it.
http://winamp2foobar.blogspot.com/
I'm not trying to continue a pointless argument just sending some
information along.
I am planning to do a podcast later this month about foobar as well.
thanks

Re: Reaper Multi Track recording software

2011-04-19 Thread Robert Nelson

The link shown below for the REAAccess bridge does not work. It goes to
domain registering service.

Any ideas on where one can download the ReaAccess bridge from apart from
that link?

It is extremely accessible when used with the ReaAccess plug-in - a
plug-in which interfaces directly with JAWS, Window-Eyes, NVDA and
SystemAccess - from http://www.ReaAccess.com. I now use it for all of my
recording and editing needs. Definitely worth the $40.

Hi!

Anyone played with this? I'm examining the trial version now, looks as
though it may be quite accessible.

Available over multi platforms.

Re: FYI foobar and winamp blog

2011-04-19 Thread Barry Chapman
I have been a long time Winamp user, but have been reading the recent
discussion on Foobar2000 with interest. I would consider
changing to Foobar if it can do all of the following, which are possible with
Winamp. The inability to do them would be a show
stopper for me.

1. The ability to search for a file in a playlist and move it to immediately
after the currently playing track.

2. The ability to locate a file with Windows Explorer and insert it into the
playlist immediately after the currently playing track.
This can be done with Winamp although how to do it is not immediately obvious.

3. The ability to tell the player to stop playing at the end of the current
track or a selected track further along in the playlist.

4. The ability to play the last ten seconds or so of a track without needing to
specify the time.

5. The ability to jump to a specified time in a track.

6. The ability to move forward and back by 5 second increments in a track by
the use of arrow keys or similar.

7. The ability to read the sample rate, bit rate and number of tracks of a file.

8. The ability to modify ID3 tags.

9. The ability to cross fade tracks (I know this can be done with Foobar).

10. The ability to equalise the output volume of files.

That will do for starters. Can anyone say if it is possible to do the above
with Foobar.

Thanks,
Barry Chapman
