Re: Burning an Audio CD

2012-01-01 Thread Howard Traxler

Thanks Barry,

When I pressed insert plus shift plus t while playing a file, winamp says
nothing. That could be a matter of running the correct jaws scripts.

Two things that might matter here: Attempting to create an audio CD, the
source files are MP3 files of various rates. The burning program (Burn
Aware Free) says it'll convert mp3's to CDA's. The resulting files on the
CD are CDA files, but only 1KB and perport to be shortcuts. I moved the
source files away from where the shortcuts might find 'em and they still
play.

I have now converted the source files to .wav and all looks OK. I'll try
burning again. Here comes my fourth coaster to complete a set of four.

Hi Howard,

I don't know anything about the program in question, but make the
following comments.

Whenever you look at any audio CD in Windows Explorer, you will only see
the .cda files. That is why you can't just copy files from
an audio CD to your hard drive. You need to use a CD ripper for that, so
everything up to that point is as expected.

To try to determine why the CD won't play in another CD player, when
playing a track in Winamp, press Insert+shift+t and check the
detail. If the Sample rate is not 44 kHz, then that could be your
problem.

Hi folks,
My system is Windows XP SP3 and JAWS 11. I'm using Burn Aware Free trying
to burn a music CD.

I go down the list of files and add each of them (35) to the New
Compilation

screen. Then I go back to the first screen that shows the drive letter,
speed (Iselected slowest), and list of files in the compilation. I have
to

select all files then Burn. A box on this screen shows the space and time
used and remaining. I hit Burn and it runs for quite a long time--maybe
15
minutes--jaws announcing up to 100% for each track. When it's finished,
it

dings and ejects the CD.

Now when I try to play the CD--using Winamp 5.621--it plays fine. When I
look at the CD in My Computer or Windows Explorer, all the files are CDA
and
only 1KB and called shortcuts. When I take the CD to a different CD
player,

it's empty.

Anybody know what step I'm missing?

Thanks

Warning about TapinRadio

2012-01-01 Thread Steve Pattison

Hi all,

In case people weren't aware TapinRadio version 1.50 and higher now
comes with an add-on called SweetIM that enhances instant messaging.
During the installation of TapinRadio two check boxes to install SweetIM
are checked by default. Whether you install SweetIM is completely up to
you but personally I don't like any programs that encourage me to
install add-ons and toolbars that are completely unrelated to the

still like this program but thought in the interest of fairness this
fact should be made clear.

Hi Dave.

Thanks for all this. yes, you're right...GW definitely has done
more than any other sound editor to make their programme work well
for those of us who don't use the screen.

I think you're mostly right with all this stuff. What I'm going to
do later on is see if I can revert to 5.57, which is the last
version I remember using that gave a lot of voice feedback and
seemed well integrated with the scripts. I'll uninstall the scripts
so I can see exactly how much help they were giving us. The person
who created the scripts put in a lot of keyboard commands to read
status information. For example:

To read the selected channel press Alt+Shift+C.
To say the name of the open sound file press alt+shift+o.
To say the open file's format press alt+shift+i.
To report which GoldWave control is active press alt+shift+a.
To say the total playing time of a sound file press Alt+Shift+T.
To say the elapsed time while playing press Alt+shift+e.
To say the time location of the start marker press alt+Shift+s.
To say the time of the finish marker press alt+shift+f.
To say the duration of the selection press Alt+Shift+D.
To say the current zoom level, Press Alt+Shift+Z

Needless to say some of this was pretty useful. I seem to remember
certain cases where start and finish marker positions were spoken
automatically. As mentioned, the name of the current file is no
longer even read when you first move focus to Golwave, or switch
from one file to another. Copying and pasting of course does
actually work, but jaws seems to believe that there is nothing on
the clipboard and so, consequentially, nothing to paste.

Seems that the programme may work better with Window Eyes. I was
going to ask you how you'd been making out, since you seem to have
had considerable success with the latest versions, but forgot that
you were using W. Eyes. I of course have heard that Window Eyes
doesn't require as much scripting and

I use SF with Window-Eyes, and while a little work could be done to make
certain things work better, I find it to work
all right for the mostpart.

Dave, I don't have a 48-bit file handy, but I can try to create one to see what
happens. However, I would go to
Options and Preferences, and then to the Audio tab and experiment with
settings. You might try a different sound
mapper or something, for example, and there are a number of less obvious
parameters in the Playback tab and in the
Advanced dialog that might make a difference.

No sound selected, and There is no sound in the clipboard.

Again, this is jaws specific, and has to do with the scripts that were
written for the programme. Of course the selection/pasting does actually
work, even if jaws thinks it does not.

Hi all,
For those who are trying to use Goldwave 5.65, what message do you hear
when you select audio and try to copy it?

Re: problems playing back 24 bit 48 hz audio but can record?

2012-01-01 Thread David Tanner
My first question here would be if a recording at 16 bit instead of 24 bit
records alright? If so, then most likely the issue is that his soundcard
can't handle 24 bit sound.

I have no problem with 24 bit recordings on my computer, but 32 bit will
record and I can save and play the file back on another system, but not on
the one that I just recorded on.

Now, I actually have one system where I have recorded a 64 bit audio file
and was able to play it back on the same computer. And, that is one awsum
sound. If you can imagine 192,000 sample at 64 bit is just amazing, but you
talk about one huge file.

I use SF with Window-Eyes, and while a little work could be done to make
certain things work better, I find it to work

all right for the mostpart.

Dave, I don't have a 48-bit file handy, but I can try to create one to see
what happens. However, I would go to
Options and Preferences, and then to the Audio tab and experiment with
settings. You might try a different sound
mapper or something, for example, and there are a number of less obvious
parameters in the Playback tab and in the

Advanced dialog that might make a difference.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

SF works just fine with JAWS. It should play the files too.

hmmm, that's strange. is the asio driver not configured right? Try using
goldwave or audacity to edit instead? sf isn't horribly accessible with
window-eyes not sure about other readers. hth

Possible Problems With New Version Of Tapin Radio

2012-01-01 Thread Tom Kaufman
Hello list: First of all, I'm not saying that there _are_ definitely problems
with Tapin Radio 1.50, but it could be; let me explain: I downloaded the latest
version of Tapin Radio the other night. I first began to notice that if I
tried to bring up the tools menu, my computer would make that noise that says
a-oh! You're in trouble; don't you do that.oh..you've really screwed it up!
Well I got past that, but have discovered that when I arrow to the Genre's
thing, then it just sits there and won't move! Another thing: I tried
re-installing it; I get a dialog, but it just says s yes or No (Jaws _Will
not_ read me what the dialog says, so I have no way to know what it's asking me
for! So can anybody on here tell me what your experiences with Tapin Radio's
latest updates are? Should we just go back to 1.41 (or which ever version it
was? Or is this a problem that is due to my computer? I'm running Windows XP
service pack 3 and Jaws 13. Feedback appreciated!
Thanks,
Tom Kaufman
