RE: Accessibility of Adobe Audition

2012-12-04 Thread Samuel Wilkins
I will try a demo of Reeper and see if it works. However, I was wondering
if Sound Forge would allow me to add my own impulse response files o the
acoustic mirror, as I am also considering that.

Samuel why don't you try reaper with re-access. It is a very accessible
multitrack recorder and only costs $60.

Hello Steve, the reason I am interested in using Adobe Audition is because
of its multitrack capabilities, and also because it has convolution reverb
capabilities. I know that Sound Forge has a convolution plug-in called
 the
Acoustic Mirror, I do not know whether I could import my own impulse
response files into this. Thank you.

 Samyuel,

I am a Window-Eyes user and I used Adobe Audition in its early days and
CoolEdit before then which Adobe purchased. The current version of
 Audition
conveys information to screen readers using other
methods that are not evident from the screen. Mostly, I think MSAA is
 used,
although there could be some UI Automation. What this means is that if
 you
just try to explore the screens with the mouse pointer,
you are going to notice that some things that others see on the screen are
just not there. GW Micro does have an Audition app that gets a lot of the
information you need. When I tried that some time ago, it
worked pretty well, but there were some gaps when dealing with certain
plug-ins. I had switched to Sound Forge before these capabilities became
available, though, so I didn't buy a full Audition version, and I
have not tried it for a while.

I would suggest that you ask on the GW-Info list, though, and I would also
see if you can get a demo version and plan on really working the heck out
 of
it for thirty days or so. I don't know if you can download
 a demo version or not.

If you do try this, I for one would be very, very interested to hear what
you find out. Also, if there are specific problems, Aaron Smith of GW
 Micro
might be willing to see if something can be done with the app.
While I am not unhappy with Sound Forge, I would consider moving back to
 Audition if it works reasonably.

 Good luck.

 Best regards,

 Steve Jacobson

Re: Ripping Audio Cassettes

2012-12-04 Thread Gary Petraccaro
Sure it will. If you can record through a mic using a mic jack, you can get
a cord with a resistor in it from radio shack and use that. You can, if I
remember right, specify the quality of mp3 the machine generates. You would
at worst have to figure a way to cut the tape files into segments. The real
question is should you do this at all. If they're personal tapes, go for
it. But commercial tapes usually don't hold up well. You have heard the
tapes and know what condition they're in, of course. My wife's commercial
tapes were so bad after years that there was no way I could tune the
recorder to get the best sound because there was no best sound. Personal
tapes usually have better quality.

Good luck.
Btw, make sure it's a stereo cable if the recordings are stereo.
Good luck.

Hi Evan, Does your girl friend have a Plextalk? If yes, she can hook it
up to a cassette player, with a patch cord and record the casette to the
flash card of the Plextalk. Then tell the Plextalk to convert that Daisy
recording to CDDA format and it will record this onto a blank disk. She

worse than e.g. 2.1 version of Adobe Audition when you know they changed
their label from Cool Edit which was the predecessor of that one. I wasn't
confortable with that as many objects were placed without any shortcut keys
on the screen beyond the menu so OK it was possible to grab them using the
virtual mouse and crowling around but it was a real pain. It has the
standard menu from what I remember and maybe they improved some particular
things of that I can't tell but generally the older version were incredible
having most of things in menu reachable via the keyboard unlike the latest
versions. But maybe somebody knowing more of that will chime in. I say the
most blind-friendly one is Sound Forge:).

For the record I don't think it'll be better with Window Eyes as the
universal way of the layout and localizing the object is identical to all
screen readers regardless of whether it's NVDA Jaws or Window Eyes etc.

In case this matters, I also really liked Audition's Noise Reduction. However,
I feel as though the Sound Forge Noise reduction
is just as good but one needs to play with it some. For example, the Sound
Forge noise reduction plug-in as four different modes,
and certain modes work better with certain kinds of content. I didn't feel I
had to work as hard at Audition's noise reduction to
get good results, but if you are forced away from Audition, I think you can do
all right with the Sound Forge noise reduction
plug-in if you experiment with settings..

iTunes 11 query

2012-12-04 Thread Stuart Lawler
Hi all,

Firstly, I hope this is the correct list to post this query, but if not, my
sincere apologies.

I am using iTunes 11, with Jaws 14 and windows 8 64 bit.

In general, navigation is fine, and the software works as expected. However, I
have a specific problem, when transferring audio books from my iTunes library
to my phone.

Firstly, with the sidebar hidden in iTunes 11, which is the default after
installing, I can see my phone, and the selection of radio buttons to show
music, movies, films, apps, tones, summary and info, but not books.
If, however, I unhide the sidebar, the 'books' radio button becomes visible to
Jaws and all is well.

Now, when I activate the books radio button I get taken, as would be expected,
to the options relating to how books should be transferred to my phone.

I have the tick box to sync audio books ticked, and the radio button to sync
selected audio books checked. All fine so far. Now, here's where the problem
arises.
Previously, immediately following the radio button to sync selected audio
books, there was a tree view of all the audio books in my iTunes library. I
simply ticked the books I wanted copied to my phone, and unticked books that I
wanted removed, tabbed to sync, and all was done. Now however, when I press
tab, I am told, audio 2.5GB, but no list of books to select what to copy and
what not to.

I can of course view my books in the main library view and copy them one at a
time, but surely this is not the only way to transfer selected audio books
anymore?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Kind regards,

Stuart

Thank you Steve for that. I think then it looks like Audition is more
trouble than its worth, and it may be ebst trying out the Sound Forge and

In case this matters, I also really liked Audition's Noise Reduction.
However, I feel as though the Sound Forge Noise reduction
is just as good but one needs to play with it some. For example, the Sound
Forge noise reduction plug-in as four different modes,
and certain modes work better with certain kinds of content. I didn't feel
I had to work as hard at Audition's noise reduction to
get good results, but if you are forced away from Audition, I think you can
do all right with the Sound Forge noise reduction
plug-in if you experiment with settings..

Hi Sam,

My view might be a little subjective but from what I've tried out in the
past when I got myself Adobe Audition just to take a look at it got totally
worse than e.g.

2012-12-04 Thread Bud Schwab

Hi gang.

I haven't used winamp for some time now so uninstalled my current one
and reinstalled the later one. I don't use winamp much so never
have been very used to it. Of course, my 90 year old brain doesn't
absorb things like it used to 30 years or so ago. I do have it
working somewhat to play some musicals and other things but it's
strange. For everytime I want to play anything it always askeds
me no, yes, change when these notifications appear and it always
says show details. That sort of sounds like I'm not the selected
adnministrator. How can I check and try to get it going properly and
simply? Thanks so much for any help. Am using the latest windoweyes
and I believe the latest winamp.

That's not very clear, hope you get the gist of it.

Thanks.

Hi,

Try installing the codecs packs e.g. the k-lite codecs pack from
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/k_lite_codec_pack.htm
which will enable mp4 audio and video it for the whole system on all programs.
It'll also enable videos and audios for some kind of .avi container formats
such as special XIVD or DVIX or whatchammacallit I can't remember all the video
extensions as I'm a blindie not really needing them:).

Or you can go to WinAmp/preferences (ctrl+p)/input (i)/then hit tab twice to
get to the treeview of installed plugin list, arrow down to Nullsoft directshow
Decoder, tab once to Configure button/hit space bar key (it for some reason
won't work when hitting enter)/and it jumps to the edit field of extensions
separated with ; symbol that DirectShow system uses on default so at the end
type ;MP4 and then enter and tab to Close button and enter. You ought to have
it enabled as well after installing the codecs pack. And don't forget to
uncheck Classic media player during the installation as you have other players

Sure it will. If you can record through a mic using a mic jack, you can
get a cord with a resistor in it from radio shack and use that. You can,
if I remember right, specify the quality of mp3 the machine generates.
You would at worst have to figure a way to cut the tape files into
segments. The real question is should you do this at all. If they're
personal tapes, go for it. But commercial tapes usually don't hold up
well. You have heard the tapes and know what condition they're in, of
course. My wife's commercial tapes were so bad after years that there was

no way I could tune the recorder to get the best sound because there was

no best sound. Personal tapes usually have better quality.
 Good luck.
Btw, make sure it's a stereo cable if the recordings are stereo.
 Good luck.

Hi Larry,
Did you get any help ripping your cd.
Here is what I would suggest.
After the cd is ripped it should be in a pcm file. There you can edit it

As long as the file is in pcm you could use windows media, or winamp to

Listers,

I am about to pull my hair out trying to figure out the best way to
record an audio cd with TR without using the sound board, so as to
keep my screen reading program from making an undesirable appearance.
I would like to record playback through Winamp, or if there is a
better method, please let me know.

If you are wondering why I don't just rip, this particular cd has an
error at the last cda file, which will not allow me to save the
totality when ripping with CDEX. I guess I could just ignore the last
file, but the problem is that I would miss a chunk, though it be
small, of the book I am ripping.

If anybody can help, it would be gratefully appreciated,

Subject: iTunes 11 query

Hi all,

Firstly, I hope this is the correct list to post this query, but if not, my
sincere apologies.

I am using iTunes 11, with Jaws 14 and windows 8 64 bit.

In general, navigation is fine, and the software works as expected. However,
I have a specific problem, when transferring audio books from my iTunes
library to my phone.

Firstly, with the sidebar hidden in iTunes 11, which is the default after
installing, I can see my phone, and the selection of radio buttons to show
music, movies, films, apps, tones, summary and info, but not books.
If, however, I unhide the sidebar, the 'books' radio button becomes visible
to Jaws and all is well.

Now, when I activate the books radio button I get taken, as would be
expected, to the options relating to how books should be transferred to my
phone.

I have the tick box to sync audio books ticked, and the radio button to sync
selected audio books checked. All fine so far. Now, here's where the problem
arises.
Previously, immediately following the radio button to sync selected audio
books, there was a tree view of all the audio books in my iTunes library. I
simply ticked the books I wanted copied to my phone, and unticked books that
I wanted removed, tabbed to sync, and all was done. Now however, when I
press tab, I am told, audio 2.5GB, but no list of books to select what to
copy and what not to.

I can of course view my books in the main library view and copy them one at
a time, but surely this is not the only way to transfer selected audio books
anymore?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Kind regards,

Stuart
