2014-06-29 Thread Sunshine

steve, i have that but the program will not make mp3s.
i can get it to make waves but not mp3s even when i select to save as mp3.
something is kind of confusing.
in the encoders tab of settings you choose mp3.
I got that.
now you would think to choose mp3 right in the save audio dialog right?
well, if you do this it will not save as an mp3.
so again i ask you steve how are you making mp3s when i know others who
use the program that are having the same problems.
i have the lame that comes with the balaboka program so no problems
there. Please advise.

Why don't you just change the default programs in windows. I think you are
using windows 7, so go into control and find default settings.

when there, tab over to list view. hit a letter such as windows for windows

okay and see if that does what you want.

Hello list: A couple of days ago or so, I posted a question concerning an
audio podcast I have been trying to download. I recently installed
Quicktime on my machine in anticipation of getting something that uses
 that
program to play the file! It used to be that when I would download these
podcasts, it would give me the choice whether to listen or to save. Since
I've put Quicktime on here, when I click the link, it immediately opens
Quicktime and starts playing the file; this is _not_ want I want! Is
 there
a way around this problem? Must I uninstall Qu9icktime in order to do
 what
I want? I sure hope not, for what I am hoping to get (so it would seem)
will only play in Quicktime; it's a video that was taken of a part of a
country Christmas show our band was involved in! So if anyone can come up
with a way around this problem I have (seems to me all I'd need to do is
 to
tell Quicktime to just sit down and shut up until I need it.but I have
found no way to accomplish this! Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Subject: Reposting A Question

Hello list: A couple of days ago or so, I posted a question concerning
an

audio podcast I have been trying to download.

So if anyone can come
up

with a way around this problem I have (seems to me all I'd need to do is
to
tell Quicktime to just sit down and shut up until I need it.but I have
found no way to accomplish this! Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Re: a files property question

2014-06-29 Thread Steve Jacobson
I'm not certain of the answer, but I believe there is a button to refresh the
information in the library. Maybe that has to be done. Also, there are a lot
of
fields in the properties dialog, so maybe there is another that needs to be
changed. I must tell you that some of how this all works is still a mystery to
me. I
know that when I changed the file name and the title in one case here that
Windows Media started displaying it correctly. Sorry I can't be of more help.

With Audio files, you can edit many of the properties using Windows
Explorer. Select the file and press ALT-Enter. There is a TAB, the
Details tab, that will let you look at and edit many properties such as
title, artist, supporting artist, etc. You will see the values in a list,
but if you pick one and start typing, you can then TAB between them.

Hello Sunshine:

Try doing this:

When it asks you the file name to save, give it a full path, for example:

C:\filename.mp3

Or better yet, create a folder inside c:\ for the files, for example:

C:\tts

And then when saving a file, type:

C:\tts\filename.mp3

That is what I do and it works fine. Of course, you must have previously
selected to save in MP3, the bit rate and sampling.

 Try doing this:

When it asks you the file name to save, give it a full path, for example:

Or better yet, create a folder inside c:\ for the files, for example:

 C:\tts

And then when saving a file, type:

 C:\tts\filename.mp3

That is what I do and it works fine. Of course, you must have previously

2014-06-29 Thread Humberto Rodriguez
Well Sunshine, I am not sure I understand what you wrote, but it seems to me
that you did what I said and it worked, then you did it again with larger
text and it worked again, but then for some reason something else did not
work when you tried to convert text to MP3.

There are always many possibilities for something to throw a wrench into the
works when you are dealing with computers. You must be patient and
eliminate possibilities one by one. If you are able to convert small files
to MP3 but not larger ones, try using a lower bit rate. Keep in mind that
bit and sampler rates go together, for example, you cannot save something at
56K bit and 44100 sampler rates.

Above all, if we are to try to help you, you must take care of being very
explicit when asking questions, about the detailed steps you have taken, as
well as the result and error messages.

Best,

Humberto

2014-06-29 Thread Sunshine

No, what i said was this.
1 i converted a small file to mp3, that worked. using the method you
specified.
2 then i tried to set up a larger file to convert to mp3. did the same
steps as you outlined for the first one. when done there was no mp3 in
the folder i had placed in the path.
so while the smaller file converted just fine, the larger one did not
convert at all.

would you like the file so you can try it?

There are always many possibilities for something to throw a wrench into the
works when you are dealing with computers. You must be patient and
eliminate possibilities one by one. If you are able to convert small files
to MP3 but not larger ones, try using a lower bit rate. Keep in mind that
bit and sampler rates go together, for example, you cannot save something at
56K bit and 44100 sampler rates.

Above all, if we are to try to help you, you must take care of being very

now you would think to choose mp3 right in the save audio dialog

well, if you do this it will not save as an mp3.

steve, i have that but the program will not make mp3s.
i can get it to make waves but not mp3s even when i select to

something is kind of confusing.
in the encoders tab of settings you choose mp3.
I got that.
now you would think to choose mp3 right in the save audio dialog
right?

well, if you do this it will not save as an mp3.
so again i ask you steve how are you making mp3s when i know

i have the lame that comes with the balaboka program so no problems
there. Please advise.

Why don't you just change the default programs in windows. I think you are
using windows 7, so go into control and find default settings.

when there, tab over to list view. hit a letter such as windows for

okay and see if that does what you want.

Hello list: A couple of days ago or so, I posted a question concerning
 an
audio podcast I have been trying to download.
So if anyone can come
 up
with a way around this problem I have (seems to me all I'd need to do is
 to
tell Quicktime to just sit down and shut up until I need it.but I have
found no way to accomplish this! Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

I have no idea how big was this file but I have converted big files. I
did even produce mp3 files of stories and complete books with no
problem. Obviously that would take much longer time compared to a small
file. But, still it is much better in converting files to mp3, even
faster than other programs that cost a lot like Kurzweil.

Humberto i have a question then for you how come when selecting the
folder where you want it with out writing out the full path it will not
save like it should?

Hello Sunshine:

Try doing this:

When it asks you the file name to save, give it a full path, for

example:

C:\filename.mp3

Or better yet, create a folder inside c:\ for the files, for example:

C:\tts

And then when saving a file, type:

C:\tts\filename.mp3

That is what I do and it works fine. Of course, you must have

previously

selected to save in MP3, the bit rate and sampling.

Humberto

Tom, if all else fails, just search for default or default programs and you
should find what you want.

I was thinking you might have meant control Panel (I actually tried that,
but it didn't look like that was where I wanted to be! But will have
another look later! Thanks for the tip!

Actually I am stupid, it should have been control panel. I may have wanted
you to search for control or something in the search box.

Why don't you just change the default programs in windows. I think you
are

using windows 7, so go into control and find default settings.

when there, tab over to list view. hit a letter such as windows for
windows
media player and tab to where it says make default program, hit apply,
then
okay and see if that does what you want.

Subject: Reposting A Question

Hello list: A couple of days ago or so, I posted a question concerning
an
audio podcast I have been trying to download. I recently installed
Quicktime on my machine in anticipation of getting something that uses
that
program to play the file! It used to be that when I would download
these

podcasts, it would give me the choice whether to listen or to save.
Since
I've put Quicktime on here, when I click the link, it immediately opens
Quicktime and starts playing the file; this is _not_ want I want! Is
there
a way around this problem? Must I uninstall Qu9icktime in order to do
what
I want? I sure hope not, for what I am hoping to get (so it would seem)
will only play in Quicktime; it's a video that was taken of a part of a
country Christmas show our band was involved in! So if anyone can come
up
with a way around this problem I have (seems to me all I'd need to do is
to
tell Quicktime to just sit down and shut up until I need it.but I have
found no way to accomplish this! Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

RE: Reposting A Question

2014-06-29 Thread Tom Kaufman
Gary: I think I got to the right page you are telling me to go; problem is
that Winamp (that's what II want as my default player) isn't there! I think
in Winamp preferences, I _do_ have it checked to play all file types.
However, when I try to download this particular podcast, Quicktime just
jumps on in there and plays the file; this is not what I want! I want to be
able to ddownload the podcast as I used to! So I need to know what it is I
have to do to accomplish this?
