Pioneer XW-SMC4 Full Media Center System

2014-07-11 Thread Dane Trethowan
The system described here is both the most complete and flexible Media Center
I've used.

I'll be writing a review on the system shortly as I have some exploring to do
to get access to some of the features so here's a summary of what I've found
thus far.

The system is a stereo unit which looks much like a Boombox but thinner.

Sound is very good with the unit offering Digital Amplifiers at 20 Watts RMS
for each channel.

Connectivity options would seem endless when you look at what's available on
the system.

• Bluetooth Connectivity
• AirPlay and DLNA compatible
• USB port which will handle files in most audio formats including FLAC, AAC,
MP3 etc.
• Line-In jack
•Internet radio
• FM Tuner
• Music Server
• Compatible with Pioneer Remote Controller Apps for IOS and Android
•Able to handle music services such as Spotify and Pandora
•Built-in iPhone dock

Its unfortunate that Pioneer Didn't include DAB+ but perhaps its easier to
market something like this world wide without DAB+.

The XW-SMC4 can be connected to your Network either using Wi-Fi or LAN,
unfortunately I'm going to require a little sighted assistance to set up the
Wi-Fi connection but I was able to connect to the network using the LAN port
and update the firmware without any issues, the system has a HTML Web Interface.

I'll keep you all informed of my progress

re cdex170 beta 2

2014-07-11 Thread brian parker
Hi alexandra, as you see from the subject line, it is 170 beta2. that
is the latest version i have. what happens if i try to convert an ogg
file is this. it appears to do the conversion, and if i go to where
the converted file should be, it is there. it will tell me the size
of the converted file in bytes. if i then open it in foobar, it will
show me at the bottom of the xcreen come up one with 8, what rate the
conversion was done at, whether the file is in mono or stereo, and
the length of the file in hours and minutes. there is one problem,
although foobar says it has it loaded, it won't play it. i then
loaded the file in to soundforge7. it also acknowledged that it had
it loaded, would give me the details in rate and length of the file,
but wouldn't play it. my friend is still using 151, and he says it
will still convert ogg to mp3. i had this programme myself, but when
later versions came out, i moved to them, assuming that they would do
everything that 151 would do. at present i have versions 160 and 170
beta2 on this machine. 160 behaves the same as 170 with regard to ogg
files conversions. if you remember alexandra, i tried to reinstall
151 again, and you helped me with the ini file. i failed to do that,
as 151 can't find the directory where i have put the files to
convert. well, there it is, all of it. best wishes, brian.

re switch

2014-07-11 Thread brian parker
Hi tom, we are getting at cross purposes, there is no problem
converting to mp3, but not if the original file is an ogg. then, you
only get four or five minutes, as if it is giving one an example of
what the file would sound like. i think i will have to get the
professional version of switch. brian.

Re: Pioneer XW-SMC4 Full Media Center System

2014-07-11 Thread Dane Trethowan
The interesting thing about this model is that Pioneer Australia don't seem to
support it, I bought the model through eBay and its certainly available in the
United States.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if there's a model above this one that might
even have a CD Player or other features given that the cabinet of the unit has
a couple of blank panels on the front and top.

Re: Pioneer XW-SMC4 Full Media Center System

Okay.

I don't know whether this answers your question, I found a link for the Pioner
XW-SMC5 in the U.K. at
http://www.pioneer.eu/uk/products/archive/X-SMC5-K/page.html

This product also seems to have been discontinued but it would be worth chasing
up if you could be bothered, there might be excess stock somewhere.

The XW-SMC5 seems very similar to the XW-SMC4 I have except for the addition of
the DVD/CD player so now I know what the blank panels on the front of my unit
are for smile.

 . Music Server
. Compatible with Pioneer Remote Controller Apps for IOS and Android .Able
to handle music services such as Spotify and Pandora .Built-in iPhone dock

Its unfortunate that Pioneer Didn't include DAB+ but perhaps its easier to
market something like this world wide without DAB+.

The XW-SMC4 can be connected to your Network either using Wi-Fi or LAN,
unfortunately I'm going to require a little sighted assistance to set up the
Wi-Fi connection but I was able to connect to the network using the LAN port
and update the firmware without any issues, the system has a HTML Web
 Interface.

I'll keep you all informed of my progress

More On The Pioneer XM-SMC Models

2014-07-11 Thread Dane Trethowan
Okay, looks like I'm out of luck trying to get a XW-SMC5 in Australia but the
XW-SMC4 and XW-SMC3 still seem readily available in Australia at least.

As has been noted, the XW-SMC5K has a CD/DVD player built-in which is multiple
format playback. The XW-SMC4 and XW-SMC3K seem identical except that the SM$K
comes with the Bluetooth adapter whereas with the SMC3K its available as an
optional extra.
