Re: Article: Spotify Family embraces the modern household
Okay, well I can’t comment directly on the software for Windows or Mac, I use Spotify with my AV and Hi-Fi equipment in the main, yes I use it on IOS devices such as the iPhone and iPad, I also use it on those wonderful logitech Squeezebox and UE Smart Radio sets. There are several great things to be had with a Spotify subscription which include your songs being stored offline on your device, 320KBPS streaming of songs and obviously the 320KBPS downloads available to you to play any time offline. Yes, there is Spotify capture software out there for the Windows PC, I have no idea just how accessible it is or isn’t so I tackle that problem another way, by sending the output of Spotify via a digital link and capturing it with either Total Recorder or Audio Hijack Pro at the other end. ** Dane Trethowan grtd...@internode.on.net Skype: grtdane12 Phone US (213) 438-9741 Phone U.K. 01245 79 0598 Phone Australia (03) 9005 8589 Mobile: +61400494862 faceTime +61400494862 Fax +61397437954 Twitter: @grtdane On 22 Oct 2014, at 5:59 pm, christopher hallsworth challswor...@icloud.com wrote: Sorry to say this lol but it's the worst piece of software for the Mac/PC from an accessibility standpoint. New To The World Of airPlay?
Hi! So you’re interested in AirPlay, want to purchase an airplay system of some sort, want something that sounds quite reasonable and don’t want to pay the big bucks. Here are two both very good and versatile systems in my view which should be considered, one is somewhat more expensive than the other but both these systems mentioned here offer both good performance and excellent value for money, I look at the Pros and Cons of both here and you can make your decision or do further research as the case may be. So for the really cheap AirPlay system? Well this model has been with us for 3 years, its been continued by the look of JBL’S web site but the onBeat Air is still widely available. In short its a baby beauty! so small but delivers very a very nice sound stage for what it is, nothing compared to the next model I’ll talk about here but for under $100 you really can’t go wrong. Yes, I did say for under $100, I actually just purchased one for $60. The onBeat Air also has an Aux-In jack for use with other devices, a 30 pin iPhone dock, a video out connector if you wish to connect the onBeat to a TV to show video from your iPhone and a USB port for syncing the iPhone whilst docked to a computer. So now we know why the device is so cheap, iPhones have not come out with 30 pin docks since the iPhone 4S but that probably won’t worry anyone who wants one of these devices, a simple matter of a 30 pin dock to lightning connector adapter will solve any picking issues. I like the dock of the onBeat air, you can swivel your iPhone from portrait to landscape mode, the phone is kept in a solid grip, there’s absolutely no chance of it falling away from the dock connector. The next AirPlay system I wish to talk about comes from a company that just make and follow in classic sounding products, I speak of Bowers And Wilkins or Bw. They have an Airplay system for $300, yep you heard right and the model is the Z2. I’d better first ask the question, is there anything not to be liked about this system? Well, the only thing I don’t like about it is that it doesn’t sound as good as the $700 BW A5 system I have but for $300 its the best sounding AirPlay system I’ve heard and you’ll immediately notice the signature room filling performance that is a BW trademark and signature. This system is similar to the JBL onBeat Air as discussed earlier, it has a dock though the dock here is a Lightning Connector, it also has an Aux-In and of course takes AirPlay streaming. Both these devices are power only devices and don’t run on batteries, in the case of the BW it would need a pretty big battery I should think smile. ** Dane Trethowan grtd...@internode.on.net Skype: grtdane12 Phone US (213) 438-9741 Phone U.K. 01245 79 0598 Phone Australia (03) 9005 8589 Mobile: +61400494862 faceTime +61400494862 Fax +61397437954 Twitter: @grtdane

Re: Tecsun PL660 Radio
No beeps unfortunately. Also note that the Tecsun PL660 and other radios like it from the same company are a little qwerty sometimes. For example if you type 1070 on the keypad when you’re on the Medium Wave or AM band the radio will take you straight to the typed in frequency with no need of a press of the enter key. This however can be different on the Short Wave bands. For example if you type 2500 to get to 2.5MHZ then you’ll have to press the enter key after you’ve typed in the frequency, that frequency is out of the pre-programmed Short Wave bands which can be moved between by using the Short Wave Band up and down buttons. There are some keypad shortcuts to be aware of too which makes typing in a frequency that little bit easier. On the Short wave band, suppose you want to go to 15MHZ, just type 15 and press enter. As I remember the radio has a thousand memories and they’re in pages, they can be accessed via the page up and down buttons. There are I think 500 Ramdom Access memories and the rest are divided up amongst the various bands - FM, Long-Wave, Medium-Wave and Short-Wave along with Air Band. Each memory is assigned a number on a page so you can either type in the number corresponding to the memory position or use the tuning knob to move up and down memories on a page. To enter a memory into the radio, tune to the desired frequency and hold down the memory key to left of the 0 key for 4 seconds. ** Dane Trethowan grtd...@internode.on.net Skype: grtdane12 Phone US (213) 438-9741 Phone U.K. 01245 79 0598 Phone Australia (03) 9005 8589 Mobile: +61400494862 faceTime +61400494862 Fax +61397437954 Twitter: @grtdane On 22 Oct 2014, at 9:18 pm, Howard hwolc...@stny.rr.com wrote: hi dane: am most interested in if the memories are accessible and able to be useful for us. also, would like to know if there are beeps while the keys are pressed. as far as I know, at least on mine, I have no beeps so I presume there aren't any. and, of course, any other useful info you may have gleaned from your use of the radio. thanks. howard wolcott -- From: Dane Trethowan grtd...@internode.on.net Sent: Wednesday, October 22, 2014 5:58 AM To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Subject: Re: Tecsun PL660 Radio Well actually I’m going to have it for a fortnight longer so what do you wish to know? ** Dane Trethowan grtd...@internode.on.net Skype: grtdane12 Phone US (213) 438-9741 Phone U.K. 01245 79 0598 Phone Australia (03) 9005 8589 Mobile: +61400494862 faceTime +61400494862 Fax +61397437954 Twitter: @grtdane On 22 Oct 2014, at 8:57 pm, Howard hwolc...@stny.rr.com wrote: hi dane: I hope I didn't miss the tecsun 660 info. Re: Article: Spotify Family embraces the modern household
Changing for better or worse, just curious. As mentioned before, and of which I've yet to try out, apparently the apps for android and IOS are not so bad, but on windows at least, the native spotify application doesn't appear to be screenreader friendly at all. there's also the blindspot app, but it requires a premium account, so probably not a great choice for those folks who want to test out the service. the web players for spotify, along with most the others, slacker, pandora of course, and songza, they aren't easy to use at all within a browser. So, could it be, that in a upcoming beta, they are hopefully making spotify more accessible here on the pc? that would truly be wonderful. Just wondering, and thanks. Take care. Blessings. Yamaha CDN500, Today's Puzzle
Hi! I’ve written about the Yamaha CDN500 previously to the list but for those who are wondering its a CD Player with a difference, it also handles DLAN Media servers, playback from a USB, streaming from an iPod and Internet radio amongst other things. So here’s the interesting question, why will the player play M4A files and other audio content from the USB port and DLNA drives and only MP3 files from a CD Rom? You’d think it would be all the same. As a footnoge, this player has been specifically designed to play HD Audio from a Media Server, USB Memory stick etc and the player does a superb job at that.
