recording a zoom.us live video

2013-09-13 Thread Grant E. Metcalf
I would like to join an online series of live classes that uses the zoom.us
program for access. I am wondering how I might be able to record the audio
as an mp3 for later listening or review? Any suggestions would be
appreciated.

Nice explanation. May I add that Bluetooth keyboard includes any
Bluetooth braille display such as HumanWare's Apex.

I've been using an Apple TV 2ND Generation unit now for 3 years and
a lot has changed with that unit since I first got it but one thing
has not and that's the accessibility angle, the Apple TV has
Voiceover onboard which was my primary reason for getting the unit
in the first place.

Perhaps the best way to describe the Apple TV is as an entertainment
unit but a most inteligent one at that.

You can for example watch/rent/purchase movies or TV shows,
documentaries, stream your iTunes library either from iCloud using
iTunes Match or from a shared library on your computer network.
You can also use the Apple TV for Airplay work, you can stream to
an Airplay device or from an Airplay device, for instance you
can stream video to your Apple TV from your Computer, Android Device
etc and do the reverse, stream video from your Apple TV to a
compatible Airplay device.

Recently Bluetooth was enabled as part of the update, this - at
present - allows the use of a Bluetooth keyboard in much the same
way as with an iPhone etc, makes for easy navigation through the
system, handy when searching or typing in passwords etc.

The Apple TV can connect to your Home Network in either of 2 ways,
via the dual band Wi-Fi connectivity or via a 100MBPS LAN port.

The device has 2 outputs, a HDMI output which connects to most
modern-day TV sets or surround-sound receivers and a Fibre Optical
digital output.

Hope this helps.

Re: Apple TV

2013-07-30 Thread E.
I am very new at this so may not be correct. I think the iPhone and
Apple TV combination will allow a person to stream a radio station
from the iPhone to the amplifier which has the Apple TV box connected
to it. This is good if you have an amp rather than a receiver hooked
to your stereo. In other words, this is for those of us who do not
have a tuner.

C Crane pocket radio

2013-07-27 Thread Grant E. Metcalf
I bought one of the C Crane pocket radios and am satisfied with its
performance. The price was $59 US plus shipping and California sales tax.
It has lots of buttons which are easily identified. the top button on the
right side of the radio selects AM, FM, and the weather band. The on/off
button, volume wheel and earphone jack are on the very top. On the face of
the radio you will find 2 vertical buttons which move up and down the dial.
There are 5 buttons you can use to pre-select your preferred frequencies.
Once you have located a station you hold down one of the 5 buttons for 2
seconds until you hear a beep and then repeat the process for the next
station you want. There are more buttons and functions which I still don't
understand and/or need at the moment. The sound is acceptable to my old
ears. There is a 60 day return policy if you decide you do not want this
radio.

Hope this is helpful. -

K-4 patch issues

2010-09-22 Thread Grant E. Metcalf
Hello List,

Recently the battery in my 20-year-old K-4 keyboard died and I lost the sound
patches
I had installed in 1995 using a DOS program, I for gotten which, however, I
believe
the extension on the patch bank(s) to be .c24, if that provides a clue. I have
some
patches dated in the early 1990's. I am now running Windows XP Pro on my desktop
and have purchased a USB midi adapter. Kawai technical support recommended
using a program called wsyex.exe.
It only accepts files in its buffer up to 20-KB and the old .c24 files are 22-KB
and so won't work even if wsyex would accept them. It uses syx and mid
extensions,
and what else I don't know.

Any suggestions as to programs and/or help you may provide would be appreciated.

BTW, I am on the digest list and for faster interchanges you also might cc or
email
me directly.

 Hi All,

Well, I'm considering one of the Olympis digital recorders, the
 question is, which one.

I think there was a series of them ending in 30, 40 and 50. I've seen

the 30 and the 50. However, I think there are several newer ones
since then and what I need to know is how do they differ in size,
 features and cost?

There are other brands also, but there are just to many to keep up
with.
Perhaps I should tell you what I want to do with it maybe that would
help you guide me in the right direction.

I'm a storm nut and I want to record thunder without it being
distorted.
 I
want something small that I can just grab and go when I need it. I
may use it for general notes and things, too, but capturing thunder
and transferring it to the computer is my main objective.

Any advice and recommendations will be appreciated.

By default (in my experience) the cursor will be on Deny; you will need

I'm unfamiliar with AVG, but ZoneAlarm usually shows a pop-up when it
detects a p[rogram or process trying to access the Internet. It will
ask
if you want to Allow or Deny the access, and there is a CheckBox to
Remember the setting. Does this sound familiar to you?

Hi Unfortunately I do not have an answer for you but I am interested to
see that you are using an Audegy 2NX. Is this the external card, are you
using it with jaws and if so how does it react? I tried one but it made
jaws speak peculiarly and when I played music it acted like a CD that
was jumping. I still have an Audegy 2Nx which I would really like to
connect up to my 7.1 system. Are you able to use the remote.

I have asked on Access UK and also on this group but had no response.

Hope you get your problem sorted.

Subject: Dumb Question

Hi All,

Ok, I know most of you do this all the time, but I have never had the
need to record streaming audio before. What program is best to use, and
do you start recording and then bring up your stream or exactly what do
you do first so as not to miss any part of the audio but not record a
bumch of meaningless stuff you don't want.

I'm sure this is not at all difficult, and I know it seems pretty
elementary to most of you. I suppose through trial and error I could
figure it out, but I think some one who has done this could save me a
lot of time. I never seem to have enough time at the computer to do all
the things I want anyway.

Thanks for your help.

Hi List,

I have a question regarding meta tags in mp3 files. What is the logic
to have all that information such as artist and title embedded in the
files when artist and title are present in the standard artist and title
ei: the file's name? I'm just curious. I would think that with the
information in the file names the tag data would be unnecessary and it
would make things simpler with out all those tagging issues etc. This
is just one of those questions I am rather academically curious about.
Can anyone scratch this itch?

RE: Splitting Files with Cool Edit or Other Audio Program, Urgent, Job Related

2007-11-06 Thread Dale E. Heltzer
By noting the call begin/end time on the Status Bar (with a little help
from the Pause function) you could set these times in the View/Range
dialog box, highlight (CTRL-Shift a) then create an appropriately-named
file using File/Export.

Subject: Splitting Files with Cool Edit or Other Audio Program,
Urgent,Job Related

Hello everyone,

Please be forewarned, I'm a pc tech by training but I'm not an audio
expert, so please be gentle with me because I'm in dire need of your
expert assistance.smile

I am supposed to start a job this week where I need to record and then
listen to tech support calls from agents taking live calls for an
internet provider. My job is to split these calls into separate files
and save them.
My boss is doing this visually by looking at the wave forms. I'm
familiar with the concept of wave forms, and I can read the negative, 0
numbers, and the positive numbers with the JAWS cursor. Unfortunately,
using Cool Edit and JAWS 8.0, the software they are using, I can't seem
to tell where one call begins and where the that call ends and then
where the next call begins. I'm supposed to record the calls, separate
them, save each one into a separate file, rate it in terms of quality,
and send my feedback to the powers that be.

Because I couldn't find the Cool Edit scripts, I downloaded Gold
wave
5.22 and the new JAWS scripts. Gold wave looks more promising, I read
the manual and it appears that I should be able to do what I need to do,
but it is confusing because when I receive my file of calls, I don't
know ahead of time how long the calls are and where the silences are so
that I can save each call as a different file.

Thanks for your patience, folks. My questions are these: Can I do
this with Cool Edit, that is what my colleagues are using? Or should I
use something else like Gold wave, Audacity, or Sound Forge? There are
other people with disabilities at the job site, but I'm the only blind
person. I will try to use what works best if it isn't Cool Edit, but
I'll have to convince my boss that this would better.

If you'd rather not clutter up the list, please feel free to email me
privately at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thank you in advance for any help
or suggestions!

Beth

RE: Getting track titles from CD when ripping to MP3

2007-10-05 Thread Dale E. Heltzer
I did figure out that by connecting to the Internet, I could get the
information I wanted - I just thought the information was there on the
CDE itself, and wondered how to get it.

Thanks for the explanation.

 Hi Kelly.

Windows media player is a very accessible animal these days
and is worth anyone taking another look. It's media library
is completely accessible and easy to use unlike winamp which
bounces from version to version breaking and fixing the
library. It is easy to select which tracks you wish to rip
using only your PC cursor and spacebar. No need here for use
of the JAWS cursor or equivalent and no struggles trying to
work out what is checked or not as is the case with Easy Cd extractor.

All ripping functions are configurable and all functions are
accessible using tab, spacebar, application key and options
from the menu bar. In other words completely windows standard.

In my opinion it's a better player than winamp. Just listen
to a live album or concept album where the tracks merge to
see how seemlessly media player will do this compared to winamp.

We're all a little guilty of sticking with our favourite
programs and probably not looking around enough for
alternatives. Winamp has been used for years by blind users
and windows media player was once not very accessible at all.
  Times have changed.

 Regards.

One of the benefits of using a stand alone CD ripper such
 as CDEX or Exact
Audio Copy is that these programs are highly configurable.
 Both programs
allow you take the CDDB information about the disc and have
 it displayed
  in
many different ways, depending upon user preferences.
 Often, mass market
all-in-one offerings that do a number of tasks, such as
 Windows Media
player, may not do all of them well. Win Media can play
 audio files, rip
CD's, and burn CD's and do it less accessibly with fewer
 options than
  Winamp, EAC and Nero.

I've been using GoldWave for a long while and am now
 using version 5.19.
This is happening on 2 computers, so it's either me or
 GoldWave, not the hardware.

In my work, one of the things I do is to divide vinyl albums
into separate tracks after transferring them to the computer.
Once divided, I trim the silence off the beginning and then
go to the end and trim silence from that end of the file. If
the song is say... 3 minutes long, I now have a 3 minute
file. Quite naturally, I then hit save. Once doing that, in
about a quarter of my files, I then have a file that is 59
seconds long. Not 58, not a minute, but almost always 59
seconds. Any Goldwave experts care to take a shot at that one?

If the record is vinyl, you may use isopropyl alcohol to clean it.
Do *not use alcohol if it is a 78-RPM record - the alcohol will dissolve

now, towards the middle of it, it gets stuck.
is there any way to do this without doing any harm to the

RE: Eliminating audio tape squeal

2007-05-27 Thread Dale E. Heltzer
You can buy at various places (RadioShack, Wal-Mart, etc) a cleaning
cassette. The box (that is, the cassette itself) has a small hole in the
lower right front into which you can squirt a bit of cleaning solution
(iso[propyl alcohol) that comes in the package in a small tube.

Put the cassette in the machine, and play.

Hi Sharen. The best program that would change the speed of
any song without affecting your file too much is adobe
audition. Sound Forge and Goldwave, i find, will leave to
much undesirable art effects. Also, i wouldn't advise you to
change the speed of your music file other than if it was in
wav format because files like ogg or mp3 would already have
suffered from art effects as a result of conversions from
 wav. Cheers!

RE: 78 RPM to Newer Format

ABSOLUTELY DO NOT PLAY THE 78's ON A 33-1/3 TURNTABLE!

The Stylus is shaped differently for playing the two types of record;
the narrower needle for the 33-1/3 will very probably ruin the grooves
in the 78 record.

Also, NEVER use alcohol-based cleaner on a 78 disc.

back in it will not fix the problem. Also, all verifications come up
bad, and I don't know why. Any suggestions? Kurt

RE: Resampling question.

2005-09-06 Thread Dale E. Heltzer
Generally speaking, you have to guess at how the higher-sampled sound
*would appear, because you have to create data that you don't have. I
don't think you'll get much in the way of good sound from a low-bitrate
sample.

 Hello!
I have a main question about resampling.
When you down sample from a faster bitrate for example 44100
to 8000 you loose alot of quality.
But if you upsample from 8000 hz to 44100 hz you don't get a
 better sounding sound.
My question is if it could be posible to make the sound sond
better if you upsample the sound?
 Thanks in advance.

restatement of steve's problem

2005-07-09 Thread Kurt E. Yount
I am writing this message in behalf of steve, since he doesn't seem to be
able to give enough information etc. He is trying to download MP3 OTR.
He is on the list for otr for which we get links every week. When he
tries to click on the link to save it, it starts playing instead. If he
does alt F4 to stop the stream and hits the application key he gets no
target or save as choice and therefore can't download the files. He had
quicktime on is system, was getting some kind of a quicktime error and he
took it off. He uses windows media player, although he has the real
player on the system also, but the main problem is that he never has the
option to save the shows, they just stream and don't download. I hope
that is a better statement of the facts so that you can see what the
problem is. Kurt

Who's using two sound cards?

2005-01-27 Thread Dale E. Heltzer
Hi,

I know there have been postings by listers who want to run two sound
cards simultaneously. Until now I wasn't interested in following the
Conversation.

I have a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz internal sound card; this past weekend,
I bought a Creative MP3Plus USB external card. I can't figure out how to
make them both play and/or record as I wish. I find it hard to believe
that Windows XP (Home) won't allow two simple devices to operate
independently and simultaneously.
Am I wrong?
I'd appreciate some enlightenment.

Thanks.

I have found two total recorder segments on main menu. One was Randy
Formente and one was Monty. Does anybody know of any more? Thank you.

I think the main menu numbers I have for total recorder were 883 and

accelerated recording

2004-09-27 Thread Kurt E. Yount
According to the help file you are supposed to be able to record at up to
nine times normal speed with total recorder. However, it says that it
doesn't work if prerecord is checked. The gap thing is different. The
accelerated feature is supposed to be silent when it is working. Other
than that, I can't tell how to do it. Thanks for the suggestions. Kurt
